i flick between my PS3, Dwarf fortresses, TF2, Making History and LOTRO all the time.  playing only MMO's leads to one thing...being burnt out.

seriously though its a good program.  i think other studios should get over their fear of female developers and create more programs like it.  i dont see why a company of 5/20/50/200 can't be at least 1/4 female, they just need the right encouragement (scholarships, pay, working hours, support, advertising)

took me 11 months to reach 60...2 week later the BC came out (that killed all my interest in the game)

people need to slow down and enjoy the ride.  whenever i see people say it only took them 2-3 weeks to reach max level i cringe at the though.  2-3 weeks is about 1-2 levels for me.  those levels are filled with a huge amount of fun (running dungeons, meeting up with friends and exploring new (to me) areas).  when you rush you skip most of the good times.

hell some of my best moments have been running through instances (as you need groups) because i hit a snag in my level and needed a little boost.

Vanguard is one of the best PvE games out there (as long as your computer can handle the game).  the world is one of the largest i have seen and very varied (it flows nicely too...none of that stupid zone stuff where your walking in a forest that suddenly turns into a massive desert for no reason whatsoever).

WAR is all about PvP...i dont think i need to explain this game too much...its all over this website right now

so basically:

if you like PvE -> Vanguard

if you like PvP -> WAR

considering many WoW players will end up in WAR i think we will see a hell of alot of random groups wandering around without any co-ordination whatsoever and when someone tries to organise them, gets flamed by these groups.

DAoC appeals to a fairly niche market and in that niche market is decent strategists and people who were actually brought up by half decent parents and taught some respect.  you dont get that with the WoW/WAR pvp crowd (or in WAR's case, RvR)

2 fanboi games that tried to grab in the OMGPVPLOZ crowd...look what happens...it destroys games

when will it ever end?

spore comes out next month, thats at least a few hours worth of fun right there.  GTA IV is good if your into free roaming stuff.  do you like sport?  if so go out and play one otherwise/and pick up a sport game.  they can be quite fun.  i have a few cricket games (test matches take at least an hour of playing to complete for me), soccer and a few ice hockey (i play field but...there are no games for that, still its fun to play).  if your into shooters i suggest TF2 or Bioshock as they are by far the best out there right now.  pick up Crysis if you can stand the lame alien parts of the story.

you make your own storyline (as i did in SWG).  i never went to Naboo because i decided my character had been expelled there many years ago.  i decided he had a grudge against Tusken raiders so much of my time was spent slaughtering them.

when you slap in a questline (as the NGE did) it streamlines people, forces them (usually with above average equipment) to follow that path and in many cases the story sucks...majorly.

i prefer the sandbox method because it is so much more open.  feel like you want to live you entire life in a swamp killing goo?  go for it.  feel like travelling the length and bredth of the land to seek out exotic locations and items?  go for it.   sounds much better than following in the steps of a million other people,

anyone else notice that every single news post always starts off with broken links?  you guys may want to look into that, could be some sort of a bug

from my personal experiance its all about complexity.  the more complex a game the fewer jerks/retards running around ruining everyones day (thats not to say we dont have them...just no where near the number you get in...WoW for example).

the way that MMO's are going is the path of simplicity (they call it catering to the casual/solo community) and its set to continue.  granted we will eventually get some more decent games coming out as long as this form of gaming follows every other form of gaming around

hell Doom was pretty crap when it first came out and look at what spawned off that, Bioshock, the battlefields, halflife (never was a fan but it was well made), its only a matter of time before this industry conforms to the standard gaming genre cliches.

i.e half the titles released are quick 20 hour action packed games and about 5 possible game of the years and 1 or 2 1st class games that blow everything out of the water and remain at the top.  the difference being MMO's take longer to make and last longer so its gonna happen on a bigger timescale

i think i am fairly screwed on the whole meeting your soul mate at work.  i do plan on entering the Games development world eventually and it does seem very male dominated.  coming from 2 workplaces dominated by women it may take some getting used to (out of 30 employees there is me and one other guy, the rest are all girls) and i doubt the industry will ever change.

they will climb out of it.  its one massive hole though.  such a stupid system (its like they never even considered how people use their computers) and it was only a matter of time before things were cracked or the system was hacked.

sorry but to all the fail com avatar posters...your credability is shot to pieces whenever i see that horrible brown image.

as for the expansion...i dont like the oriental side of AoC.  i would have much rather seen the tropical jungles of the south

good post.  should be an interesting game.  would you be able to post on how the landscape feels to you?  i've read a lot of the slayer series and other Warhammer books so i am keen to see if the world feels...warhammery.

3 Pacific islands, a small tank and a cruise ship....

ok serious stuff now.

i want a classic server

massive marketings campaing (must be a re-release of the game)

everyone gets the first month free after purchase (no credit card required)

first 6 months are at half price ($7.99 roughly per month)

vets get a permanent discount ($7.99 per month instead of $14.99 a month)

the current dev team is fired and a new one brought in

i recon if they did all that i would come back (and with that marketing campaign hopefully plenty of other people) and i think that will last around 6 months before they make some stupid change and screw the play base again.

Personally, I need a bit more substance.

i dont agree with 3.

WoW did not nail it on the head, far from it.  i agree, crafting should be a good way to make money (to hell with what everyone thinks.  who makes all the money in the world?  merchants and people who make goods?  or the guys running around making deliveries and butchering animals?) it should infact be more profitable than mindless grinding.

i think a more complex crafting system is ideal or, at the very least viable system.  currently all the stuff you make is usually 5-20 levels below what you currently are and to top it all off,  is usually crap.  it frustrates me when i need to be a 250 miner/blacksmith or an artisan miner and weaponsmith at lvl 25 just to get decent gear.

aside from that i think your spot on
