sorry but even for SWG the light servers have at least 500 playing.

gonna give War a try but its gameplay really doesnt seem to appeal to me that much...mostly the lore

personally i have a rough idea as to what i want to play but never decide until i am in the game and looking at the choices presented to me.

when i started LOTRO i had determined i wanted to be a ranger (hunter) but ended up a guardian.

maybe ur wife might change her mind at the last minute (or even you change your mind)

i can list about 100 (but i wont)

here is my top 5

1. Simple game means everyone can play

2. success of blizzard with its former tittles (Warcraft 3, starcraft, ect)

3. Vivendi's global marketing and distribution (more places u sell the game in the more people buy it)

4. the lack of any decent MMO's at the time

5. the industry itself was very underdeveloped and so there was not much warcraft needed to do to beat the others

now its starting to get a little bit iffy.  10 million?  seems a bit much.

Star Wars Galaxies.   even in its present crappy form its still the king by a long shot.

...from all the stuff that i saw (video's and articles) it was pretty obvious there was gonna be some dungeons and grouping which means gear is involved.  whether this is for endgame or not or if its just the standard dungeons leading up to max level who knows.  but its fairly obvious gear plays some part (maybe not as much as WoW)

though WoW is a great game and it does have many many haters i am glad to see Blizz actually trying to fix endgame (though 1-60 needs a huge revamp before anything in endgame).  they now see that shorter instances and smaller groups are better for most of the population.  raids have dropped from 40 mans to 20-25.  instances are much shorter (many are between 1 and 2 hours long) and they are packing more into a smaller space (making for more action).  a good example of them getting it wrong is ZG.  quite a distance between boss and mob fights and really wasnt that exciting.  an example of them getting it right is the mana tombs group of instances.  they are short and sweet and fairly linear meaning no wasted time looking for the next boss.   i hope the new expansion brings in more good instances and revives the dream of raiding for many who simply didn't have the time or could not get the gear to net a spot.

ohhh just thinking about raiding coastal towns on my avatar makes my mouth drool

but to everyone who will play have fun.  its a unique game and a welcome change to the same old crap we usually get

i agree the lich and the herald were similar and the necromancer could easily cover the lich's base but i think they are making a mistake getting rid of the druid AND combining it with the scion.

i am still looking forward to playing a scion of set and it will be interesting to see how these new spells effect the class.

honestly i wouldn't bother.  they suck so much and you need to pay for 99% of them (unless u opt for the "less" legal route).  find a play style u enjoy.  get a system running (i like immolate, voidwalker, corruption, curse of agony and then wand to death).  find a zone u like and if u can stomach them (i can't) do quests.  instances are your friend but do not rely on them (unless u are like me and instance grinding is faster than how i level (mostly due to me not doing quests)).

my main point is DONT get guides they suck and are not worth the $10+ or the time spent getting them in the "less" legal way.

starting?  lol i've hated them from nearly the first time i got into one.  as WAR and AoC get closer to release and no other game challenges WoW (or any other MMO for that matter) then these debates will get worse and worse
