Get Ready for Game Update 6!

As early as next week, Game Update 6 will be hitting the Live server! The final changes have been made in response to the valued player feedback, and we're just about ready to release GU6 which will include thousands of bug fixes, the long awaited character model revamp, and our highly anticipated trial version of Vanguard, Isle of Dawn !

Isle of Dawn

We're introducing a brand new starting area which will showcase all the best that Vanguard has to offer. New players will be able to experience the world of Telon on a trial basis while exploring the Isle of Dawn. Existing players can choose to start their new characters in their selected Race's standard starting area, or begin their adventures on the Isle of Dawn and enjoy new content up to level 10!

The Isle of Dawn was separated from the continent of Kojan during the cataclysm. A village of battle hardened humans and a band of zealot hobgoblins have warred against each other for centuries on the Isle. Their mutual hatred for one another runs deep and even now they are locked in an ongoing struggle. Recently though, increasing numbers of ulvari have begun to surface on the island – much to the dismay of both the humans and the hobgoblins.

Weakened by their perpetual war, the humans aren't able to capably defend themselves. Even now, their villages burn as they frantically seek aid. The isle is in desperate need of heroes.

Thousands of Bug Fixes!

Putting polish on the game is an ongoing effort! Although we've always been dedicated to making Vanguard play as smoothly as possible, this Game Update you can expect to see a great number of bug fixes – over a dozen pages of patch notes, to be exact!

Character Model Revamp

We've given Vanguard's character models a makeover, beefing up the men while enhancing the feminine features of our females. Not only have their bodies been given a revamp, but most of the facial customization that was available at launch has returned! You'll now have dozens of ways to make your character unique in appearance, all while increasing performance!

Players will also have more options when it comes to armor. Each race now comes equipped with their own unique undergarments, which will be an optional replacement to the traditional clothing that currently covers the bare models.

"There's another level of success, which is reaching a certain mass-market critical mass, which to be totally fair, only Blizzard has achieved completely so far. We think that we are the game that has the most likelihood of being the second to do that, but we're not there yet."

------

What is he saying that he would be the second to do?

-Reach a mass-market critical mass.

Are there any other MMOs that have reached "mass-market critical mass"?

-According to him it is at the moment only Blizzard that have made that yet.

------

That is what he says.
He never says what he considers to be mass-market nor does he define what a critical mass would be.

So.

What is "mass-market critical mass"?

Maybe they have devoted alot of their few resources on the trial island.

Orphes, I think you illustrate the state of the game and didn't realize it.  The game is seriously lacking in content updates to be considered anything but on a bare minimum or "life support" status as others have said.

Maybe I did. I am twisting the life support thing. I can both agree with that it is on life support and not.

If it takes so many of the "few resources" that the game has to put out a trial which has been in the works/promised for over a year then what else needs to be said?  I am just being realistic about the current state of the game.  We can hope things change once they get the trial out as you say or that content will soon be announced, but until that happens all evidence points to the opposite.

Things have to change I think that is obvious. And it is intriguing to see what it brings when they finsihed with this part. I still believe thay have a shitload of things that need to be merely "tuned" to get thrown into the game. The adding of faction mounts for example.

I honestly think Vanguard would out perform EQ2 in a heartbeat if it could get an expansion, but for it doesn't look like SOE is interested in trying that.

Maybe I should reread the thread. But arguments like the game is on LS because it have shadows. I don't agree with that it makes it on LS.

I mean in my eyes LS means like someone else said. Closer to the literal sence of the words.

Don't blame the website ,its up to us the fans of Vanguard to defend it .When we  see fatuous criticism from the likes of Umbral lets just  disagree with them and explain why.

Well

So explain to me

Why they dont have an animator and a texture artist (check the new models body, they failed to deliver a stylized or a realistic body, check the abs and about the animator, they even say they dont have one)?

The post was about that the game is not on lifesupport because it have animators. But one can wonder why they are tweaking the models on a game that is on "lifesupport"?

Why should I belive the game is not on life support if they cant and will not finish an important feature like diplomacy?

Finish? Besides that they have said they are to work more on diplomacy. And let's see what it gets now that the trial island is close to be finished.

Why do you belive my criticism is not valid? Oh, btw, I even defended Vanguard against the lack of shadows complain.

It is ok you love the game, but I dont think is good for the game community pure blind devotion.

No, but that works both ways. Look at what you colored. It doesn't have to be blind devotion just because someone disagrees with you. (But that was not your point, I'm just pointing it out.)

That is more true than alot want to recognize. It is not me that makes the game I want to play it is they who offer me their product. And noone forces me to like it.

Ok, the last several people have been talking about how VG isn't linear and freedom this freedom that has been the core design behind the game.

How does Vanguard differ from any other mainstream fantasy MMO?  The only real difference I could see was the removal of zone/chunk barriers and long travel times.  Otherwise the core gameplay is pretty much identical.

Don't get me wrong, I think the world is beautiful and doesn't give the confined feeling most games do.  It is the single strongest point of Vanguard.  However I don't think that makes the game any less linear than the next title.  Well most games....

What am I missing?

I'm not shure what you mean.

For example.
In one game you progress to get the next availble /better/ skill and the other game you progress to the next level. In the end that is just different shades of grey.

What is this?

I thougth the general consensus was that Vanguard was unorthodoxly unoptimized?

But whatever suits your argument I guess.

???

He logged onto the test server and took screenshots.

There still difference.
TTH took screenshot on the default characters, the OP obviously did not. The OP did more work into showing how they can look like, with sliders.

On the othar hand one have to remember that TTH's screenshots was before they made the major tweak on the female models. But that doesn't leave out that TTH did it the fast and easy way. (They do a good work on other things, but this one maybe was not that good.)

Sadly, the more it costs to "compete", the more likely well see more Orcs and Elves in the future.

So sad, but true..

Believe you and me, I think alot of people are sick to death with this type of mmorpg format, but its the only one that is selling still.

There are 3 other mmo's on horizon.. Stargate Worlds, Star Trek Online and KotOR Online. Maybe, just maybe one of these 3 titles will stay mainstream instead of having orcs, dwarfs and elves.

At some point MMORPGs may evolve to cater to the jaded crowd that's "sick to death with this type of mmorpg format".

However, you have to realize that every year young adults become old enough to get a credit card, adn they are first time players of MMORPGs, and it's all new to them.

This will last forever, unless people stop having babies.

Don't forget those people that calls out failure if a game doesn't make Blizzard go bankrupcy.

All of these have fallen within a year. Then you can ask why?.

What would you speculate about LOTRO?

LOTRO has as far as I seen got good to very good reception both in reviews and on forums. Ok that there are people that whine about LOTRO.  I would say that LOTRO is that geek, nice and all, every mother in laws dream. That gets the shortest draw from girls.

It is a welldone game but still it is not competing with WoW.

Thanks for effort into creating showing some good made models. As for the quote, is there any concept art avaible that he did for Vanguard. For the models I mean.

I think thay are pointing the stick backwards.

A society that is built out to report people?

Would it not be ebtter to make people care by default what they are doing. It would be better to do raight because you know and feel that is what you do instead of doing it because you are afraid you get reported.

No I don'thave rose tint glasses.

I don't think it was about making completely new characters, with new style one them. It was alot about keeping the characters, tweaking them and  readding the sliders to them. With keeping the apperance and the earlier performance increase.

And if they look the same as before, or close to, that you and others are saying.
With no performance loss and with added sliders. I think they have actually succeded with the goal set.

Well that would be true except that PhAnToM or whatever his name is made a big deal about bringing sexy to VG with new models.  That might have been pure hype or who knows.  I think he is gone since we haven't heard from him in months.  So that leaves us with improved performance from the models.  I still think that is a win.

In the end what we have gotten in the last couple updates is new models that have less polys and are more efficient giving better fps with groups of players, and we have gotten helms.  If we get nothing else we are still better then we were.  Assuming of course the Avatars are not largely worse then what they were.

I haven't reread it again. Will do. But what did he mean, bringing something back or did he mean redoing something. I'm interpretating "bringing sexy back" as two things.  None of them in the literate sence. Just sexy as appealing, good, ok. Bringing something back. Sexy as in good and customizable characters. Or bringing sexy back. Sexy back as in new redone characters.
