Was a good read. Looks like I'll be able to hit level 20 on day 1 providing there are no launch issues. That and if I get my pre-order code so I can d/l client on the 14th and start playing for keeps on the 17th.

Yeah, I am serious. I used to work for Hilton Hotels Corporation and I can't tell you how many whiny HHonors members would call complaining about a hotel staff member and demanding they be fired. Guess what, the staff members are still their working :D What was your Diamond VIP account number by the way? (for the mods, I really don't want the account number and if he has one and posts it, noone else can do anything with it unless they have his picture ID. Well, I could have the account closed, but I have better things to do with my time :P )

ROFLMAO on this one. Your analogy wont work because as you just said you work for the hilton the costumer has no say so. Now if a board of members of the hilton chain says to fire you it will happen best believe dat haha. your so funny keep going please.

It will work as I have a realistic idea of how much revenue Diamond VIP members generate for Hilton Hotels Corporation per year and you don't. Suffice it to say it is more than the hundred of thousands Eidos was paying Gamespot.

But hey, you just want to argue and not actually listen to ideas from other people who have experience in aspects of life you don't. As proven with your back and forth with Stradden, you just want the "last word". Anything anyone says that doesn't agree with your view you disregard. So, there really is no point in continuing a conversation with you. Best of luck in whatever you do. You'll need it.

(taking bets now that he has to have one more reply to this to have the last word)

Sure, businesses will try to stay in good terms with their partners, but try walking into any of the big name stores where you live, buy $1,000 TV and then tell the manager you want X random employee fired because he said the TV you bought was trash. They'll laugh at you and won't fire the guy unless you 1)make up a semi convincing story AND 2)the guy already had disipline issues AND 3)the manager was just waiting for an excuse to fire them. Guaranteed if the guy was one of their star performers he wouldn't be fired.

HAHAHA are you serious. No the employee would be fired if the TV manufactur said to fire that employee. HAHA are you serious haha get a better analogy.

What you are still not getting and for the life of all of us you just refuse to see, is gamespot in this particular instance, features ALL of these top 20 advertisers you have listen ALL the time.

If Eidos who happens to be #16 decided to walk away, trust me gamespot could give 2 shits less. They have from #1-15 and 17-20 to support them.

This was a point in case I was trying to make to you 4 post ago.

It it VERY piss poor business ethic to shit can someone because #16 said so.

It is also the dumbest shit I have ever heard come from someone.

Khalathwyr is right if this guy did get canned it had more to do with him as a writer more than his review.

Even if he did get fired for Eidos alone. This is VERY stupid on gamespot's part. They are giving up their target audience for 1 of 20 advertisers.

This is a trickle rain effect.

You piss off an entire group of people even 1,000 (your number not mine) and that is 1,000 potential customers that company #1-15 and 17-20 just lost because you decided to back-up and listen to #16 alone.

Come on guy get serious, Noone in business does this kinda shit, it is suicide if you you get caught, just as gamespot has found out.

Advertisers mean nothing, they are a dime a dozen. Customers are everything in business, without them you have no business. You are a webpage in an endless sea of webpages that noones give a crap about.

No its not. Big business could care less about a employee. Business is business. Everyone here is mad at eidos minus the few who mention gamespot. Eidos did nothing wrong. They didnt like the review so they used there influence to get what they wanted. Gamespot was thinking money you the site vister isnt paying gamespot crap they could care less what you think cuz at the end of the day it comes down to revenue. also He delieveried the review in a incorrect manner. he could of reviewed that game the same way and gave it the same score if he would of thought business and said the pros then cons. He wanted to get fired and he got his wish. I turned the review off after 10seconds his first few words are this game is UGLY, everything is UGLY. Me as a gamer am going to say this game is crap and turn the video review off. Eidos saw that and was like WTF. He could of said in the beginning what he like and then at the end say what he hated and said rent this pile before you buy and he would still have a job. He Roasted the game all the way thru the review and the last 20 seconds he praises the multiplayer bank robbing. So doubting what i say is just you being nieve.

I can agree that he chose a very unprofessional way in which to present his review (I watched the review vid). That, to me, says more about how he conducted/presented himself at work which would lead me to strongly believe that there were in fact other disciplinary issues regarding him. Pair that up with a memo from Eidos saying "Hey, we really didn't appreciate that review", which Eidos has every right to not like a review, and I can see where Gerstmann's boss says "You know what Jeff, that's the last straw."

The loss of one advertiser, in this case Eidos, wasn't going to financially impair Gamespot to the point they have to shut down. If their ability to exist depended on only one company, then their leadership has issues.

This said, I'm not one to put much stock in reviews for the simple fact that they are one person's opinion, nothing more or less. I understand some people can't function without the comfort of some other person they have never met in their life saying it's ok to play a game, but I'd rather try it and find out myself if I like it or not. As others have illuded to as well, the reviewer that was fired more than likely had other items that none of us but he and Gamespot know about with regard to an employer/employee relationship (disciplinary issues, etc) that also contributed to his termination.

Course, if people want to avoid Eidos for what they percieve Eidos did to someone they don't even know, hey, more power to you. I choose to never play a game or buy a product affiliated with SOE/Sony again, but that had to do with something they did directly to me, not some random person who probably could care less if I got hit by a bus or that I even exist. *shrug*

I dont think it was about one advertiser disliking a review. What is eidos's role in gamespot. They have alot of money and they could have influence over certain people at gamespot.

these are your top advertisers. And whatever they dont like the sites are going to listen. You think that xbox magize or GFW magizine arn't bias on certain games for there systems? You honestly cant believe that because i know everyone has at least ONCE read a review and thought opposite of what they gave.

I have no idea where you pulled that information from and honestly don't care. That's not meant in a rude way, I just don't care, lol. Just as you yourself said earlier, you believe what you want and I will what I want. The topic at hand is Eidos and Gamespot, not all these other companies, and I think Gamespot has enough revenue coming in from other areas than to take orders from Eidos about who stays on their employee roster.

Sure, businesses will try to stay in good terms with their partners, but try walking into any of the big name stores where you live, buy $1,000 TV and then tell the manager you want X random employee fired because he said the TV you bought was trash.  As I said before, I really don't care what a reviewer writes as it's their own personal opinion about a game. I'm an adult and I can form my own opinions. I will read sites for previews to find out what features are in a game, but I could care less whether the author of the article I'm reading thinks the features are cool or not. I can figure that out by playing the game myself.

Delay the game , and people walk, it is not a new concept in mmo's, the fact that a development team doesn't even know how long it could take them to complete a project speaks massive volumes on how well they actually know the technology they are using.

Their are some cases where more time is need, but when you over shoot your entire schedule by over 1 year, something is desperatly wrong. Maybe you can tell us something about the game right this momment that could actually give a resonsable bit of clarrity why a developer needs more time for "any" project.

Funcom really has only done 1 other title in this feild , Ao, which has been plagues with hardware and bug issues since it's release.

Think the delay will come, the community will grumble , another game off  the radar (TCoS)will come out and this game flops like a salmon swimming up stream.

It will awesome to prove me wrong won't it , you are counting the days as we speak , but I am batting 0 and 2 on my game predictions , so if I am wrong, this will be my first strike at bat .

Um, if this is a baseball analogy, you need to learn the game before trying to use them again. 0 and 2 is 0 balls and 2 strikes. In this case, if you're proven wrong that's 3 strikes and you're out.  Course, if you are talking cricket or some other sport, well, I have no idea which so carry on.

I won't be getting AoC day one, because I'm waiting for word from what BioWare are doing... I'm really holding out for them because they just might be able to make 'the one' mmorpg I could stick with for YEARS to come.  BUT, should they fail my interests, and should AoC get sailing... I guess I'll be in Hyboria!  Truly the best / deepest / most content filled MMORPG on the horizon.

I too am interested to see what Bioware is doing with their MMO. That said, it won't be out for another year and a half at minimum and if I can get some good play time out of AoC during that wait, good deal.

I'm no longer a SOE fan by any means, but I am tired of people blaming the wrong person. Stop the crap about every SOE game being junk when 90% of the games listed weren't even developed by SOE.

SOE made EQ, EQ2 and perhaps Planetside. They were also major partners in SWG, but Lucas Arts had just about every bit of influence in that games fubared ending. Everything SOE did in design mechanics HAD to pass LA's approval. So, that makes SOE responsible for 4 games that were developed by them or a subsidary company.

Now, Matrix Online, Vanguard and Pirates of the Burning Sea were all developed by other companies. SOE purchased Matrix after it flopped and the same for Vanguard. Why people blame SOE for poor game design on these 3 games is beyond me. I think SOE hate has everyone so ignorant of the obvious that they just like to accuse SOE simply for the enjoyment of hating SOE.

Hope that helps to rectify the SOE haters retarded and constant misunderstandings.

I guess I could be classified as an SOE "hater" in that I'll never play any game developed or published by them. I won't have a good word to say about them as well. Sure, I know LA had a hand in the NGE. I also know that LA didn't gag SOE with regard to them advising their customers in advance that these changes were coming. I know that LA didn't keep SOE from selling us the Trial of Obi-Wan expansion under the guise it was business/game as usual, and then a week later saying "oh by the way, now that we have your money for the expansion, we're totally changing the game".

Those are the things that I personally can't forget and won't forgive. Sorry, but your characterization of SOE "haters" isn't accurate. I don't spend my days on vet forums bashing SOE or start threads to that effect, but when someone posts as if SOE did nothing wrong, I will say a word or two. Unfortunatly LA really doesn't have anything in the MMO space other than SWG so it's not like people can advise against playing a LA MMO because they make bad decisions.

Never fear, though as if the Bioware MMO in production is a LA licensed product, once its game mechanics are made known we'll know if LA learned anything. If the game has a WoW/SWG post-NGE look then we'll know that:

1) LA learned nothing (at which point I'll burn my Star Wars movies---that is a joke, have humor, laugh)

2) Bioware has gotten in bed with a diseased harlot (LA), in which case I won't be trying their game.

Read the FAQ that they just recently updated. THe guild that owns the Battle Keep sets a 90 minute time frame during the day (anytime in a 24 hours of the day) in which they elect to open up their keep for attack. It's up to the attackers to rally their troops and attack during that time.

I don't see the need for oceanic servers with regard to this as if the aussies take a keep they can set it to be "open" during their peak times which will cause NA/EU players to be up at weird/off hours to even attack it. Seems that would work in the aussies favor. *shrug*

I'm very interested to see what Bioware has in mind for an MMO. I'm also looking forward to what 38 Studios is working on (mainly because I'm a baseball nut and Kurt Schilling is a gamer and built the company: Not having to worry about investors and "suits" will hopefully allow them go away from the WoW mold). Lastly, I'm really looking forward to what Vigil does with Warhammer 40,000.

I read a lot complaints of players about Vanguard and how Sony Online Entertainement ruined Vanguard - Saga of Heros.

For at least 4 years, we Star Wars Galaxies Veterans told you guys about SOE's "talent" for continiously pissing off their paying customers by "improving" their games with major next generation improvements or game updates.

We told you guys how SOE made their customers search for non existent areas in everquest only to keep them paying and we also told you guys how they completely turned Star Wars Galaxies into the opposite of what the community asked SOE for.

We told you guys how SOE refuses to listen to their paying customers and how they simply copy game concepts and elements of successful titles such as world of warcraft to add them into their games with the desperate hope of beeing as successful as those titles...

I think you guys get my point. Read and think about it and then tell me again why you keep paying 15 bucks each month or arround 20 bucks for a SOE station pass access?

Just tell me why? do you think we SWG vets just post on mmorpg.com for fun, simply because we dont got a life and just want to ruin gaming companies reputation?

We got a good reason to share our experiences with Sony Online Entertainement and nothing will ever change if you guys keep paying them each month only to be dissapointed in the end.

This is no flame-thread. I just try to clear things up.

Believe it or not SOE was only the publisher when VG launched.   My intuition told me not to start playing because there was a chance SOE would end up being in control.   Well I did not listen and they ended up in control.  The only reason I played the game originally was because SOE wasn't in control.   Then when they did take control Smedley said that the game would keep to the original plan.  He lied.  Lied like he always does.

You may wonder why I am staying with the game.   Right now I dunno.

Yep, I remember a thread on the VG forums when they announced that SOE was only going to publish. I believe it was Sigil's VP jumped on there screaming that we (gamers) were all nuts and that Sigil would have full creative control of VG. I challeneged the guy to make a written promise on those forums they would never give control of the game to SOE. He wouldn't. That told me right then and there they were going to hand it over to SOE, so I stopped beta testing and focused my time on LOTRO.

Yeah, I beta tested SWG and played up until the week of the NGE announcement.

Yeah, I bought the ToOW expansion and then got my money back after they then announced the NGE (if SOE announcing the NGE after they had gotten all the ToOW orders doesn't tell you something about their ethics, well, no offense but you're stupid). *using "you're" in the general sense, not toward any specific person.

No, I don't hang out in the SWG vet forums here as it's not going to change anything.

No, I will not ever buy another game that is developed OR published by SOE. As has been stated, everyone in the industry knows what happened. If
