I am thinking along the lines of the void seer, it sounds like it has a more buffer/healer role. One of the draws for me to this game is the lack of the classic set up of tank, dps, healer archetypes. Since everyone can do damage, everyone can heal, and everyone can tank although some have more utility in these areas than others.

The void seer just sounds like its up my alley from the description on their site, I always try to play a support type of role, preferably healing and/or buffing type of role, and the void seer does both :)

The good thing about TCOS, is if I pick a class that sounds like a healer. I can still tank when needed or dps when needed, but I think it still has a clear role even though its a hybrid, although you have more of a choice of what that role is within the limits of the class archetype, I think some people like with say the druid class in WoW will have hybrid set ups for their skill deck, and others more of a dps set up/healing set up etc.

I think that there will still be a sort of tank, healer, dps set up in instances, but the differences is any one can swtich to that role when need be, so its more dynamic.

If I remember right when the video was released they said the constant missing was a bug. Also you take more damage if you bunny hop, unless they have removed that feature so most likely it wont be that bad.

Besides its level 1 PvP, its not going to be fantastic at such a low level when people are still learning the game, and only have 1 or 2 spells.

You have to aim your spells and abilities so there probably will be some bunny hopping as there is the belief it makes you harder to hit.

Haven't seen that one before, was a good watch. Although the problem that has showed up in a lot of their videos so far is still there, ie where are all the mobs? its very barren it seems hopefully its just the areas they tend to shoot have little mobs, otherwise their will be lots of camping for spawns.

Skinshifter looks great, I think I am going to try a more healing oriented class first though, especially since you have to aim their heals ;p

If the leveling content is so crap that I feel the need to skip it, then ill just leave the game. Having an option to auto level is just a way of saying we know are leveling contents crap but we can not be bothered to fix it.

maybe in the future I am more interested in TCOS atm, Ill wait for their trial first, the reviews, and initial bug fix/content patches and then only buy it if I dont like TCOS for whatever reason.

You can use spells at any level, and you pick what ever you want in the order you want them. So it may just be a case of people like those spells, or they are all low levels and have not yet got to the higher level content.

More than likely the fast pace TCOS seems to have will make you ignore the repitiveness you believe the deck to have. (Not saying it isnt repitiive for all I know this game is terrible ;p will just have to wait till we play it)

I agree with the sound effects in terms of spells, specifically life tap it is a incredibly annoying sound, hopefully it is something beta testers have noticed and will get fixed.

There focus is on small group content so it stands to reason it will be easy to get a group going. But I agree that getting a group easily is a great aspect of a game.

As for public quests, from what I have read about them they are glorified group quests. The reviews of them seem to suggest the same as well. So I think TCOS probably has a lot of 'public quests'.

Will you have character classes and levels in Darkfall? No. Darkfall has no traditional character classes, and no levels. Our character advancement system is 100% skill based, meaning you learn a new skill or spell from an NPC or another player (yes, neat huh?) and this skill or spell is raised by being used. In effect this means that if you purchase the skill Swordsmanship from an NPC or another player, it is raised by wielding a sword, and fighting monsters or players with it.

So does this mean that if you wield a sword against a lowly rat or a mighty dragon you will gain the same gain in your Swordmanship. I.e. there is no gain, skillwise, to kill a powerful creature over a weak creature?

Mind you I prefer skill based games but that flaw is quite significant, if it would be the case.

Aside from the better gear, and improved challenge of fighting harder mobs it is probably accurate to assume that fighting more difficult mobs may give better chance of skill gain. If it doesn't, the challenge and the better gear you gain should still be enough to justify fighting them.

you just dont understand do you im not going to explain it again

and do i have to go and get that update?

here ya go quote

(I never said that public beta would be two weeks. I said several weeks. Public beta will be as long as it needs to be)

plus they have been in internal closed beta since end of 2007

Several weeks?, and this is meant to proove they will take as long as needed does it? There is no way they are going to release a polished game when they only plan to test it with the public for several weeks, they need atleast a year. And no they have not been in beta, they have been in alpha. When you test internally with no involvment from the public it is an alpha stage of development.

And as I said, proffestional beta tester are in every game, this does not mean they are going to release in a polished state, especially in the case with mmos. It would a be a first if they somehow manage to release this game in a polished state with the lack of testing it will have.

And as I said in my last post, they need to clarify they will spend as long as needed, because all they have been saying is release this year, beta this year, it will only be a trial period. That is all contradictory to saying we will take as long as needed.

Anyway I dont want to argue with you either, and to be honest if you dont understand why such a short period of beta is not a problem, then it really is not worth have a discussion with you. We will see what state this game is in in the next couple of months it seems.

To the other guy who said they have experience after 8 years of development. In what exactly? You can not compare experience in the development stage, to the experience gained from a released product. They may have learnt a lot in that 8 years but they deffinatly do not have the same experience as a team who actually has released products.

For instance they have no experience in dealing with patches quickly, dealing with customer complaints, they have no experience in managing an a live mmo that needs constant customer support and so on. So my point they are inexperienced is valid.

Anyway I dont want to derail this thread, so I wont post anymore about the beta test.

If I remember right they are using an improved version of EvEs engines, designed by the same person whom originally designed their servers. But that information was from when they first started making this game back in 2001. So no idea if it is true or not.

I would choose hard if by hard you mean improved AI, less time to complete timed quests, and much more risk such as limited lives. I would not choose hard if its this rubbish where they increase the amount of time to level.

That is not hard all it is is doing the same thing at the same difficulty level but for longer.

Every gaming company uses professional testers, as well as thousands of beta testers to go through the quality assurance process over the course of multiple years. And still they do not release games bug free, stable, etc. These companies are huge, and make much more linear games.

Do you honestly think that a company of 30-40 people with little to no experience, using bots that only do very specific tasks, will somehow do what most companies fail to do in 2 years, in less than 4 months on a game that is obviously going to be much more complicated? If they do manage to do it, it would be a miracle.

Also they have been saying since 2004 that they want a short beta, all they have done since then is reiterate that. So why should I or anyone else believe them when they say they will take as long as needed during the beta (which they have never said btw, unless you have proof of this). If they really wanted to take as long as needed for the beta they would of started it years ago, not leave it till the last minute.

The excuse of wanting this to be a trial rather than a test just reemphasizes the lack of testing this game is going to have before its supposed release date.

Edit: I actually think this game is going to start off like EvE did, completly and utterly terrible. Hopefully it improves like EvE did as well, otherwise a potentially great mmo is going to go down the drain.

If the Darkfall graphics look like that, it is better than nothing I guess I assume those are the highest settings, I can not really see them getting any better if they want to have large scale fights, with little lag.

What they really need to work on is the animations, hopefully if they decide to do another video it will show improved animations, and go into more detail about all their other features they claim to have.

I really hope they also atleast say they will take as long as they need in beta testing to ensure a polished product. Because it seems like they still want to have a short beta, for a game that is meant to be as big as Darkfall there is no way a short 3 or 4 month beta is going to be enough to iron out the tons of bugs, balance problems, etc that this game more than likely has.

This game has potential, but it will fall flat on its face if it releases in a bug ridden state, especially with the amount of hype Darkfall has generated people will have higher expectations for it to deliver.

edit: not sure about that blood effect they have on the screen hopefully you can toggle it off, looks kind of crap and like it obscures the screen. I believe thats the 3rd person tight camera angle you would see in game as well which looks about right, not to close but not so far back you can see people behind you easily.

WoW is marketed towards all ages, soo will the movie... I actualy would like to see a gory warcraft movie, but it wont happen.

A Warhammer movie however would work all too well, expecialy in the 40k universe.. epicness and all.

WoW has a rating of 12 last time I checked, you can get quite a lot of blood, gore, and violence out of 12 certificates nowadays.

As far as I know regarding the story line, there is quite a lot of wars that have gone on, theres no reason why they could not make an exagerated warlike movie. This is not a world of warcraft movie at the end of the day, its a warcraft movie, based on lore not the games.

To be honest I would not be surprised if the film is crap, I have never heard of or seen a game franchise to movie adaption that was actually worth watching.

Quickly testing a sig I made out of a piece of art I done yesterday :)

edit: woo it works, I think next time Ill make the art for the sig, rather than squish a 4000 by 3000 pixel image down ;p

If they did do it, it probably would be like 300. In terms of the way they filmed it against a blue screen for the entire film. I think this is not only a cheap method for them to use (as far as I know it is meant to be a cheaper than other methods), but it would seem the most logical way of them creating the stylised type of world warcraft has.

I was going to complain about this, but who cares to be honest? I have leveled all 6 of my 70s on PvP realms (Dentarg eu 5 horde, boulderfist eu as alliance). Appart from the first 2 (druid and a hunter) which I leveled during the period we had no battlegrounds, and world PvP was everywhere. As well as when I took them to 70 at the launch of TBC, I have not really had the same experience at all on my other 4 characters with regards to ganking, or PvP of any sort.

My hunter was my first 60 followed by my druid, I was probably ganked thousands of times on both of them. My third character I leveled around the time AQ came out, and I was ganked around hundred times. My 4th and 5th characters which I leveled around the release of nax, were ganked less than 30 times if that.

My last character I leveled to 70 without being ganked once. I always played during peak times. I really think that nowadays, there really is no difference between a PvP server and a PvE server. World PvP is dead, most PvP is in battlegrounds on all realms, we are linked in battlegrounds to PvE realms as well and it makes little difference with the ease it is to get PvP gear.

The reasons why PvE to PvP were not allowed before was ganking, I really doubt that is a huge problem anymore when the old areas are very barren. You probably will not encounter anyone till around eastern plaguelands anymore, so the risk is just not there. I find that people do not even bother to stop anymore because they just want to level and get out of the single player like areas of the game.

Hopefully with PvE transfers they will allow more people to participate in PvP at 70-80. Who knows, perhaps if enough people transfer it will encourage Blizzard to improve the world PvP, and servers to support it lol

I have to say still that I am really surprised they just suddenly change their mind now, it really does seem like either A) they did this because of warhammer or B) because people whined so much about it on the forums. Someone how I doubt they just suddenly had a change of heart for anyother reasons when they have been defending the policy so much over the last year.

There isnt tons of beta leaks like AoC had before launch, thats probably a good sign ;p

We will just have to wait, for all we know the game sucks. I dont think they will fail as badly as AoC, because the hype is not there. If this game is good it will grow from a small population that it has at the moment, if it is crap, I doubt anyone will notice it fade away.

Even if it does well, I think that it would only peak to about Lotro, or EvEs numbers purely because this is definably a small niche title. I hope it does well, a game that is as different as TCOS doing well could only be a good thing for the industry.

I remember seeing in a video that a mob was chasing one of the players then ran back to his location after a certain distance, so I dont think we need to worry about trains ;p

This video sort of shows how the ai works, although it is about PeP. About half way through they are fighting a group of mobs who seem to split up based on whom is doing damage to them, which would suggest that what I intitally said is true.

I can not seem to find that video where this person is running along the road and a mob was chasing them, Ill have another look :)

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/207/view/videos/play/1212

edit: Can't find it, closest is a video showing some mobs chasing a guy, but it cuts out at the end of the trailer, I was probably thinking of that one. I dont think we need to worry about trains, its one of those things that have been almost completly removed from new mmos :) Guess we will have to wait and see.
