Can't find the video anymore that had that combat going..

About the gfx. It might look a bit outdated but still very fantasy like. Its like stepping in a dream world.

I think that regarding other groups being aggroed, you will most likely only tag those groups if you deal damaged to them. So if another group is closer by and your group aggros them, but the other group deals damage the mobs will go to them.

Although I believe that the mob that initially takes damage will still go to attack you, but not the whole group. Similar to how most mmos currently work basically.

I think it is more to do with the impending release of 2 major titles. TCOS probably has  been overlooked because of War, and the WoW expansion.

Also as you have said, the hype meter on this site really means nothing, if we wanted we could make some alt accounts and bump its hype meter easily, just as easily as one or two people could make alt accounts and bump it down.

This game has never really had that much publicity, it is going to be one of those titles that will only be a success or be known to the general gaming population by word of mouth if it is good.

It will be a month or two before release, they are also going to have a free to play zone for americans (not sure if that is for europeans as well, hope so because I am one ;p) incase you dont get into open beta.

Sounds interesting, more choice is always a good thing. Not enough to make me want to come back though and play the game, but definably a step in the right direction.

As long as they fix those animations, spell effects, running and improve all the character models bar the mahrim which looked quite good, most people probably wont care past that about the graphical side of things, perhaps a bit on anti aliasing would help as well.

Its not that the graphics for Darkfall are shit, its that they are still shit after 8 years of development. Of course they could improve them, but theres no way they are doing that amount of work in the time span they are trying to set themselfs, along with all the bug fixing etc.

I would have more faith in this game if the developers were just honest, and admitted their game is not ready and still needs a lot of work, but instead it is very obvious they (and this is quite funny) are going to push the game out the door too early it seems (never thought I would say that about a game I first heard about when I was 12 lol)

Graphics dont matter in the large scheme of things, but that does not mean there is not a minimum standard that a game should atleast have, and Darkfall certaintly isnt at that standard.

That video really made the game look outdated, and coupled with the rather dull gameplay portrayed, and poor animations (I count spell effects as animations btw) it makes this game look terrible. It doesn't matter if it has potential when you take everything about this company and what they have been saying constantly into account.

Hopefully they will take their time to really make this game polished in beta, otherwise it will stand no chance of being comercially successful. I wont be surprised if they dont do this however.

Theres definably a slight improvement in the graphics quality for this expansion, nothing dramatic though. From what it looks like there still tons of rehashed textures, and models. With some new ones of course, basically exactly what they did with the burning crusade. The environments look much more varied than the burning crusade however, and more along the lines of the old world content.

Btw to the guy that said that they need to fire their artists, this is one of their artists: http://mv.cgcommunity.com/  Its obviously not their fault if they are told to produce the art in this style, I am sure that they could make a game that looks better than age of conan if they wanted, but what would be the point they would get rid of half their fans.

WoW is still a very low poly game, theres only so much you can do to make it look good with those constraints.

Only looking forward to TCOS, but there is no way that a niche game like TCOS is going to pass Warhammer online in popularity, hell I would be surprised if it beat AoC in popularity.

1 Runescape

2 AoC

3 Lotro

4 WoW after nax was added, before that it was passable

5 every single free mmo I have played. Which is a lot so not worth listing here ;p

Wow, what a waste of 20 minutes. I just watched the HD trailer (which took almost 2 hours to download ><); people really must be beyond desperate for this game if they are blown away this easily.

First, the animation was incredibly poor, which I admit I was surprised about because their older trailers gave the impression that animation was one of the stronger features.

Running for instance looks very sluggish, the swings of the weapons, general spell effects, buildings being destroyed, ships being sunk etc were so bad (looked sluggish, generic, or for instance with the buildings they just disappear lol) it really lowers the quality of this game immensely.

This is something that could be fixed in their beta though, but they still want to insist of a short beta, and to be honest they have had 8 years already, so I would not hold my breath.

I don’t really care about the graphics gameplay is more important, but that said they look like something from 1999 not 2008. This is not exactly going to sell someone on their game in 2008.
The combat is meant to be their main feature; it looks good in some areas like for instance spells bar the effects, and archery. But the melee combat really looks tedious, like its just spam click the attack button until someone dies, definably looked like this in the large scale, very staged, fights.

The mounted combat looks incredibly dull, there seems to only be one or 2 attacks for the mounted character, and 1 attack for the mount. The general effectiveness of mounted combat seems useless as well, somehow I doubt that staged fight portrayal of mounts charging in from the side being realistic with actual players.

I would not usually be this harsh on a game, but these guys have been hyping this vapourware for years as the saviour for sandbox gamers, well the game looks underwhelming, and really does not justify the long wait for it to come out.

This game looks like it is just a failure waiting to happen, if they were not so insistent on having a short beta I might bother to type that it has potential, but somehow I don’t see them improving all of the listed problems and releasing within 2008.

Edit: Ill still keep an eye on this game, I have been since 2001, hell I even bothered to sign up for the beta (who wouldnt out of curiosity alone ;p) but I wont hold my breath on a large improvement in quality.

If you are not accurate then how can you effectivly communicate your design/concept?

Edit: Just to clarify incase that comes across wrong. What I mean is if you have a drawing that has large flaws in it, then the person whom you are showing the concept to will only notice the flaws and ignore the design.

Therefore it is importent to have accurate, or believable concepts, for instance with your human like character it would help to have believable anatomy becuase the viewer will automatically see that design associate it with a humanoid creature and wonder what is up with its legs for instance.

Keep forgetting about PeP, I think the way the game is centered around quest experience sounds a bit more appealing when you take into account PeP as well, since as you say you could grind some PeP rank to make the questing more enjoyable or quicker. Might require some planning as well when it comes to maximising the speed of leveling, how much time you spend getting PeP, and how much time your spend getting experience.

Not too worried about the group size since my only real concern is that I like grouping up with a lot of people to accomplish a goal when playing an mmo, although I like small group content as well. But there will probably be a lot of  large scale battles in PvP zones anyway that will hopefully take organised groups to win, depends how well they have designed the PvP zones.

Not too worried about instances(or dungeons, whatever people want to call them), more a PvP person anyway :) The dungeons, even if they are small sound interesting anyway, due to the AI they have been demonstrating.

Guess we will have to wait and see, only 3 or 4 months till open beta apparently :)

Edit: See what you mean about the game being designed for small groups so it is probably just as enjoyable if not more than other games that have small group content and large group content, since they are just focused on small groups they perhaps will do them better than previous mmos that do both.

This is one of the things I dont like about this game, if we get experience from mobs you should be able to level relativly fast from grinding them if you choose to do that. Having one area of a game be naturally better than another for no particular reason creates less choice, and therefore makes it feel like grinding I think.

Although I tend to focus more on questing, I do some times just like to pick a spot and 'grind' out the rest of a level. More choice in ways to level is always going to be better than just one way I believe. At the end of the day however there is a lot in this game that is interesting and new from what I have seen, so I can put up with that if the rest of the game is good.

Only other area of the game I am not to sure about is the small group size, but its not really that big of a concern for me anymore since I spend less time gaming nowadays so it is easier to get a small group together quickly than a large one.

The Wotlk one was good in an artisitic sense, but if I knew nothing about WoW it would not sell the game to me. Nothing really happened that told me of what the game is, and it was not particually exiciting as someone else said I was waiting for the action to start. But its an expansion so it is not surprising, most people buying it will be fans already and know what to expect.

Warhammer online trailer was also good, but I half expected them to start talking about mount doom, frodo and all that stuff because it is a incredibly cliche storyline along the same lines of lotr/high fantasy fiction (WoW is the same but I am talking of what comes across in the trailer). But the trailer itself is very good and is much more informative about what the game is, was quite a lot of humour in it as well.

I would say the Warhammer online one is better, but as has been said this is a full game. It should be better, it is meant to sell a new game to us rather than sell an expansion to a established game.

Apparently they will have lots of new information at the liezpig games convention like they did last year, not sure what date that is on. Its been a month I believe since anything new was posted about this game so it probably will not be long till they give us an update.

Talent trees for pets? about time, might use my hunter for something other than a bank. ( I only leveled him to 70 since he was my first character I got to 60 ;p and first to 70 lol)

Looks like druids are getting a Flash heal as well called nourish along with an OOC rez.

It actually sounds like a lot of the changes they are making to the classes are a way of making them all basically the same, and it is very obvious most of these changes are related to the arena rather than to make the classes more unique.

Ive just read they are removing shot rotations for hunters as well, wtf? its the only thing that differenciates a rubbish hunter from a good one ><

It could be Starcraft online, they may have said that they will not be making an MMO that is a contenuation of a franchise, but they also said they would not make Diablo 3 any time soon, and kept denying they were making it. So who knows?

I doubt its an MMORTS btw as there are no MMORTS games out there that have done well enough for Blizzard to be able to innovate on, they all suck. It is Blizzard so anything they make is going to have been done before but a lot more polished.

They have the PvE market covered at the moment, perhaps they will aim for the PvP market with their next mmo?

Planetside was my first proper MMO, so if they were to release a sequal I would buy it in an instant despite the fact SoE sucks.

If the Agency does well I would not think it would be to far fetched for SOE to remake Planetside.
