After all this time, guess what sells the most in his store by nearly a 11-1 margin...

No other console game, no other MMOG... nothing can get close to it.

World of Warcraft, it's battle chest, and game time cards.  Nothing touches WoW after these years in sales at his store.  Just sick.  Not even AoC or WAR pre-orders can beat out his instore sales of WoW items.  Simply insane.

From what I understand there are only 2.5 million WoW players in America according to Blizzards last report. So it will probably still sell very well there, theres a lot of people that have not tried it most likely and since it is talked about a lot it stands to reason it still sells well.

In England I am pretty sure it has peaked as all the copies I have seen are in the bargain bin for 5 quid. There is 2.2 million subscribers in Europe so it is not surprising that they do not sell that well anymore most people that are interested in it have tried it and the rest are playing it.

Does not bother me to be honest, there are very few situations where multi boxing is actually helpful and even then it is still you playing the character.

Multiboxing is not botting at the end of the day, if a person wants to control 2 characters at once which is very difficult in any game that requires any thought then does it really matter? it is not going to effect anyone but the person whom is multiboxing.

I mean has anyone actually ever lost a fight to a multiboxer? I mean seriously if someone is controlling 2 characters at once they are not going to be hard to beat for a competent PvPer who only has one.

Developers I do not think will strictly oppose multiboxing, look at ccp that 200 k subscriber number in reality is probably 40k -60k players all who own multiple accounts. I think in a case like EvE it probably adds to the game, from what I understand it has something to do with funding your main, not sure though since I played it for about an hour before I deleted it. ;p

8 years, started off with some crappy free to play mmos that I played for like a few weeks each can not remember the names of them though only that they sucked lol, my first proper mmo that I played was Shattered galaxy, but Planetside was the first mmo I played for more than a year ( 2 years on and off) so I count that as my first since the others are not really worth mentioning.

Have not played an mmo for almost a year now there just isn't anything decent out there. waiting on TCOS and Jumpgate atm. If Warhammer gets good reviews I might try it, I always wanted to try DAOC but I missed it in its hayday so never bothered, even though War looks WoW like if its RvR is good Ill give it a shot.

All the secrecy is to build up hype, seems to be doing a good job at it since everyone is wondering what they are making.

Personally I am not bothered to much what it is, I heard the lead designer do a speech on the game ( as in what they wanted to do with an mmo) it honestly sounded like he wanted to make a WoW clone with more emphasis on story lines.

Hopefully I just misinterpreted it but I can't really think of a game Bioware has made that has not been mediocre in the gameplay department but great in the story telling department. So it does sound like the kind of thing the company would do.

Someone from this site already responded to a post like this before. Can't find the thread but it was something like ' Until such time as Aventurine announces that Darkfall has been canceled we will continue to host the forum'

Besides with the amount of rabid fanboys you get for that game if you were to remove that forum they would just constantly post in general instead.

Edit: Btw I did not think the game was vapourware before their last couple of development journals, I just thought the game would come out at some point be a complete failure then vanish or very optimistically be half of what they have promised on release. Their last journal in particular though just screams bullshit, so I have no faith the game will ever come out in a playable state, with any of the features they claim.

For instance the bit where he says our games servers support all operating systems, I am no expert but I am pretty sure that is impossible. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

The bit that sounds very unlikely though is where he says they are using bots so complex they are helping them test the game as if players were there.

Almost every gaming site does not take Darkfall seriously anymore so they do not bother updating the latest news on the game.

Think Warcry is the only website you will find up to date information on the game at the moment.

I believe they have said they'll continue to add beta testers as need be, as far as I know they have not said an exact date of when they will start adding more testers.

I would like to see more mmorts games as well, I believe they can work, they have all been done very badly though. If a MMORTS would come out that was polished and enjoyable it has every potential of making WoWs 10 million players look like nothing.

How many people play star craft still for instance just for the multi-player component ? same with CnC, War 40k etc If a mmorts would come along now and appeal to RTS gamers it would have NO competition and has every possiblity of being incredibly successful.

There is going to be an attempt at the first tripple A MMORTS in the form of Kingdom under fire. Which is a cross between MMO, RTS, and Action games. ( Btw by first I mean from a company that has success in the RTS genre already, rather than a start up)

Hopefully it does well, because it could pave the way for games like Total war, Age of empires, CnC, star craft, etc to make MMORTS's.

Who knows maybe Blizzards new mmo is an RTS it would seem like the perfect company to attempt to make one with the following they have in both the MMO and RTS genres.

Edit: here is a link to information about the Kingdom under fire MMOARTS.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/kingdom-under-fire-ii-combines-rts-mmo-cornrows/

and a Q n A from IGN: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/856/856486p1.html

after reading the Q/A it seems more like a guild wars esk game than a full blown mmorts though ; / Forgot to mention it is for XBOX 360, most likely it is an exclusive like Crusaders was.

Soloing is not killing the community aspect of a mmo. The lack of reasons to watch how you act is. Take WoW for instance it has a terrible community because there are no consequences for their actions. If a game makes having a good reputation important then a good community will follow.

The problem with games that force you to group is not the group content, working with others etc, it is the fact that for 3 hours plus you will be standing around with nothing to do because their is not enough people online to group with, or you just happen to pick a class/spec w/e that is not very useful for in a group situation.

I did not know that COH/V had scaling quests depending on group size, but it sounds like a great way to give a good mix of content for everyone. I prefer group content in a mmo, but I hate it when there is no alternative for when you simply can not get a group or do not feel like grouping.

I think quite a lot of mmo players think the same way, they are quite happy to group but they do not want to stand around waiting for a group, and on top of that they want to option to be able to solo when they feel like it. A lot of MMO developers have realized this which is why more mmos come out with a good balance of solo and group content.

Edit: forgot to say I do not believe that a solo friendly game will lead to anti social behavior in a game, or a bad community basically, but I think what it will lead to is a lack of players who know how to play in groups if the game does not provide a good balance of group and solo content.

WoW is a perfect example of this, you never need to group any more, before you barely needed to either, this leads to a lot of bad players but in the sense of them playing the game like someone who has brought their account rather than in the sense of them being 'bad' people. The lack of consequences for their actions is what has lead to a lot of players being less than desirable to group with or socialize with.

Good point, did not think of it like that. In that case bump away, gamers should be reminded of what a terrible company this is .

The title of the thread should be changed to please have different server rule types. It is just turning into a PvP verses PvE debate.

From what I have read about Jumpgate they will have PvE content but there will not be tons of it, so having a alternative PvE server would be pointless because people on that server would run out of things to do very quickly.

There will be safe areas from what I understand, and from what others have said on the forums here and on the Jumpgate site it is entirely possible to avoid PvP if you do not want to participate in it.

Will it be so terrible to have servers where both PvPers and PvErs are present if you can still go about the areas of the game you enjoy without participating in the bits you do not enjoy?

Is there a point to keep bumping such an old thread? I am sure everyone has heard of mourning by now and knows to avoid the game and the company that made it, those who play games and have not heard of them probably dont visit gaming forums very often anyway.

Maybe they should make a sticky on this site and list all of the games/companies with terrible reputations/suspect business practices so threads like this do not need to keep being bumped to ward people off.

I think MMOs charge enough as it is for gamers to suspect quality from them. Take World of Warcraft for instance, it charges you 8 pounds a month, and 30 pounds for the box, as well as around 20 pounds for expansion, on top of that they get money from all of the micro transaction services they offer ( character transfers for instance).

A lot of mmos charge the same way now. Blizzard get according to the last report I read from them 1 billion dollars just from WoW subscriptions and box sales, as well as those services offered. A lot of mmo companies make more than enough money for you to expect a quality product in my opinion without them having to result to charging you extra on the grounds of providing a quality product.

Think all the main people went to Arena Net and made guild wars, the rest of the leads went to Flagship studios to make Hellgate.

Btw Guild wars and its expansions have sold millions of copies, and Hellgate has also sold millions of copies all though not in the west since it had a terrible launch, so they must be doing something right to appeal to that many people. ( all though 35 million people watch american Idol so I would not put much faith in numbers lol)

Personally I have not played Hellgate does not appeal to me. Guild wars has far to many instances and no depth imo, although Guild wars 2 looks like it is going to be a true mmo with a lot more depth apparently.

I believe that Nintendo has said in the past that they have no intention of making a Pokemon mmo. Btw I think that whilst a game that is similar to the ones released now would attract children, most that played the first Pokemon games would be in their late teens by now.

So theres not really a reason why they could not make the game more mature/darker to attract an older/wider audience. Anything with Pokemon attached to it seems to instantly sell anyway, at least in Japan. I believe their last 2 games sold something like 25 million copies between them.

I probably wouldn't try a Pokemon MMO to be honest, once you play one Pokemon game they are all the same with very little change in each one. If they were to make a Pokemon mmo it would more than likely be the same simplistic generic game they copy and paste in every iteration just this time in a bigger world with  lots of kids and pedophiles in tow.

From what I have seen on their forums they are no better or worse than these forums in terms of community. As for most hostile and one of the worst communities that is easily won by Darkfall.

Go on their forums and suggest a PvE server for instance and you will not have a reasonably civil response like you have on these forums. In terms of civil I mean the majority explaining to you why a PvE server would not work, rather than the majority calling you a carebear and to go back to WoW.

My top 10 anticipated list would probably be

1) Empire total war

2) The Chronicles of Spellborn

3) GTA 4

4) Fallout even though I have never played the series I am sure Bethesda will make a good game.

5) Spore

6) Red alert 3

7) Jumpgate evolution

8) Stargate worlds

9) The map pack for COD 4 ( yeah it is not technically a game but oh well ;p)

10) Huxley, I am still curious to see if this is more than a Unreal tournament clone with a lobby.

Would be nice to see more quests involving puzzles. As well as platforming type gameplay, where you need to navigate terrain by jumping, climbing, solving puzzles etc. PvP quests never get boring if designed well because they rarely play out the same in every encounter.

Theres not a lack of ideas for creating unique quests at the end of the day. Take world of grindcraft for example, hundreds upon hundreds of kill x, collect y, go to z etc quests, but among those are some unique quests for instance the one where you throw bombs at a guy who sends Bomber man type creatures at you. Or the one where you jump through the air and try land on top of a tree, just to fight a big bird.

Developers purposely inflate the amount of quests there are because if they do not gamers will complain there is not enough content, to get rid of the monotomy they infuse unique interesting quests as carrots on a stick. I believe that the game Dungeons and Dragons online apparently uses nothing but unique quests, as a result people complain about the lack of content. (Im not 100% sure that is true since I have not played it, nor do I intend to)

I think the game will have a small perhaps medium sized (50-80k players at the most) dedicated fan base, I don't think it will do as well Warhammer purely because this game is so different from any other mmo. I believe that a lot of people like gathering items for instance, and like the WoW-like combat so it will never be as successful as those games even if it is a fun, polished game at release.

I think Age of conan will have a dedicated fan base as well, perhaps with the same numbers as TCOS most likely if it is not a bug ridden over instanced game like beta reviews imply it will do better. Either that or it will tank and its subscribers spread between other mmos.

I really really doubt anyone will come even close to WoWs numbers, they have 4.4 million players in Asia, 2.2 in North America, and 1.2 million or so in Europe and they are still launching in other countries. It is kinda of wishful thinking to expect to do as well as that. I believe their European and North American subscriptions are going to drop drastically since it has been out for so long in these areas people just want something different. Asia however and these other countries it has been around for a year at the most so it will still most likely have a growth in subscribers that will make up for the loss of European and North American subscribers.

Warhammer I think is going to do well no matter what, it looks like WoW 2.0 PvP addition a lot of people like (god knows why) WoWs type of PvP, Warhammer will more than likely appeal to these people and thus do very well because of it.

Aion I hear is meant to be a large title but I think it will be unlikely to do well in the west because it looks, even though I hear it isn't, like a Korean grindathon. That said more than likely that will mean it does very well in its respected demographic.
