Somehow I am puzzled people still believe in this game. I can maybe - half way - understand a lot of people were swayed by the AoC marketing hype - but why people believe in this game, which have virtually nothing to show for it - is amazing. I still have my doubts about this ever surfacing. Greek newspaper? Sure - but how come a major mmo, developed in English - can not be shown off to all the major sites / gaming magazines that actually has a hold over most players? How can they boast a finished engine and ready to beta test "if they cared" years ago - yet they can hardly show anything more than a picture of a supposed office with a handwritten sticker on the door? I mean, wtf?? Anyways if this thing ever surfaces, it is bound to be a hollow thing, that will dissappoint much more than entertain. A small company like this has not the ressources to deliver that many promises. When Funcom struggles to survive and Mythic is just doing okay in many players eyes, how can you believe this Aventurine is able to deliver a finished game? People never cease to amaze me!!

Same here. We tried to point out what was wrong - we tried to say this game was not ready. CB testers did everything possible to do their job right but the game was just months and months away from anything finished enough to give real feedback. This is where Funcom went overboard. They never listened - they were never going to in the first place.
I really smelled something very bad was happening when they didn't let the main testers test the sieges.. But all the fans charged in and said there was a special team for it.. HA!

All games launched should be launched with a server transfer as well as a server merges infrastructure finished. Almost all of them needs it. Logic dictates that after a while if you have a huge launch servers become empty and needs a merge.. Once pop.. settles down to a more likely level.. AoC of course is special.. so many jumped ship that I bet they don't need instances any more.. |

On a sidenote: I wish I had access to the old pre-launch AoC forum. O my god. All the stuff I said was true. I was very active there and was flamed non-stop by the fan crowds. Now I don't see any of them any more, except 1 - no names mentioned. If people had seen the obvious 1-3 years before launch - we might not have been here today. But I really wish I could have looked at my old posts and threads from back then. I called them foul on DX10, brawling, lies about launch dates, the combat system etc. etc. - and that was before I was in BETA! |

I am really split. One part of me is sad it had to go this way, but considering the attitude of the company, I have to say, I have never seen anything as arrogant since the NGE in SWG. Maybe even worse. The NGE was stupidity followed up by lack of will to admit their mistake, but Funcom really cheated their customers and lied. When I flip through the CE graphical book for AoC I can't help thinking how the art direction surpasses anything I have ever seen in a computer game before. The art is really cohesive, sinister and interesting. If I was the lead art director I would be pissed at company to see my work thrown out in a buggy, non-sensical gaming system. So when Funcom closes shop, probably by the end of the year, I hope this is a lesson learned for the industry. Stop pushing out crap in hope of getting our $. While SWG was the only real MMORPG - and even that wasn't in a finished or proper state (at pre NGE) - WoW is the only game that holistically is in a finished state. The rest is either early mmos that are dated and primitive today or crap that is copies of other games or half-baked potatoes. Now I don't play WoW and was never a F A N, but you have to respect how finished and polished the game is. Despite all the bravour, WAR is stale when compared to WoW combat. WoW is a RAIDfest which means it is not for me, as I like sandbox, but it certainly has a lot of things right. I cancelled my WAR CE for now and taking a break until a real sandbox comes along. Cancelling WAR was 50% RL time issues and 50% because of concerns over the quality.. And I am a hardcore Warhammer fan, played GW and Warhammer games since the beginning (well 2nd ed.)!! I just can't stomach another (potential) dissappointment right now. I really hope FUNCOM will NEVER MAKE ANOTHER GAME. And that people will stop supporting them!! On a final note, I also think Game Reviewing websites and magazines shares a big part of the blame. They are so hungry for advertisement handouts, that they have ZERO journalistic pride or independence. It is all about getting money so they hand out 90%ish scores to half finished crap like AoC. SHAME ON YOU!

It makes no sense..

I bet Bioware will do like most developers these days: 1. Buy great IP 2. Make theme park mmo with raids and battlegrounds and one or two new features to say they are different than anybody else. 3. Grab the profit.
Player cities, shifting ressources, social encentives in the game, freedom of choice, skills will not be included. Hell there probably won't be space f(l)ight at launch.

Couldn't be more wrong. You trolls (who are getting more desperate everyday) are actually the minority and it isnt even close. Those who follow the game, especially with the recent events and a video on the horizon, all know its not vapourwarez because we use common sense. Now there are probably lots more people who are just indifferent and dont comment because they gave up on it. See these people are actually normal and dont spend their time on forums commenting about a game they have decided isnt real or whatever, unlike you who has something to prove to someone apparently.... I would be interested to see how many trolls would take a bet if i offered say 5:1 on Darkfall's "vapourware" status. I would think that most of you would find some way to back out of it. Hmmm maybe i should do something like that if it would be allowed and i could find a good way to hold the money in escrow.
"I would rather have $50 in my pocket and vapourware, than $0 and AoC" Kinda says it all, huh?

The design was stated two years before release on the website exactly how it would be for world design. as for everything else, can you put up with a bugs? never came across a ground breaking one (apart from one, in siege battles where got booted out of zone) was fixed following week.. "When you are playing AoC and the game-play is pretty alright, fun active combat, zoned pre-mentioned world design, a lot of Bugs since launch but FC making strides to ammend this fast, the question is do you think you would find it worth a sub yet? " fixed..
Avery You always ignore direct questions like this (I have tried many times) but don't you think this post is the most dishonest you have ever written??? Sure there are a [few?] bugs, but how can you say it like this and not acknowledge all the people with game breaking bugs? You are just circling around the hot potatoe with these answers. Truth be told the majority complains of missing content, core features not adjusted, skills in the game that still doesn't work (because Funcom never sat down and programmed any working function for them). This is pay to beta. Can't you be honest about the sorry state of sieges and main content and be a fanboy the same time? At least find the middleground? I mean, your latest posts make you seem like a ... well I better not say, but honestly this is not okay trying to mislead people. No? Hmm... |
