There are a lot of reviews out there on AoC. I wrote one HERE. There are others as well. Unfortunatly there is currently no trial account for AoC for players to decide for themselves. The best way for you to determine if AoC is a good fit for you is to email players who you knew from WOW (old guildies, etc) who are now playing AoC. Their response will be a likely less Biased. On these forums it is hard to get an informed, unbiased  answer.

Good Luck

I agree that problems exist in many of what you mentioned (especially for HoX) However I have yet to see any gamebreaking issue in this game for me.

I think the biggest issue that MMO players (and reviewers) have is they want an instant classic. They have no patience and give little credibility for foresight into a game. I just wonder if thats the way we are as a gaming culture now.

If lev 20-80 were just like lev 1-20 , would you complain. If not..then why not give the game time to grow like all the other MMOs which came before it. There was a vast difference between EQ1 when released and EQ1 after the 2nd expansion. Same for WoW, DAOC, and others. I see a lot of potential yet the forums are full of "I hate this now" posts.

However, if this is the gaming culture we live in, we should then applaud Mythic for this realization and not criticize them if they push back WAR to release in 2010

Ive little doubt that one can level effectivly  in Connals, Symone. However the setup is just a LOT of running around. On PvP servers the narrow zones also make it a rough trip. Connals does have its merits ..a lot more visually impressive things to see wheras stygia is just ...blah.

Yea, it was my opinion that Connals just doesnt give as good a reward for time investment as the other zones did. I was a bit worried as to how players would respond, since a large proportion of players choose the Cimmerian culture first time out. I was worried that players would complain (cultural discrimination )

Actually I wager that the Sentiment of the OP is of the majority of AoC players. Its well known the majority of forum posters are a small fraction of the playerbase. The fact you feel the need to flame a Pro-AoC post suggests that you sense your ANTI-AoC message is not taking hold

If the OP likes AoC..Live and let live
If you dont like AoC.../cancel and let die

I agree, this is why we have such a plethora of MMOs on the market (F2P and P2P). HOwever, this fundamental truth is often clouded by the Business model of "More is better, cater to everyone".

Although Im not a big fan of 'suicide rides', fact is its the fastest way to get around with a very small consequence. Ill add that to the guide. Thanks!

Hey all!

I put together a guide and walkthrough for level 20-40 entitled "Age of Conan Level 20-40: Life as a Hyborian Tween". Read it HERE

Although many have now moved on. I find these kinds of guides helpful in making our ALT life a bit more tollerable. I also want to help any late comers to the game. However, I would like any input on how to make the guide better. All comments, both pro and con are welcome. I dont mind you bashing the article, so long as you give constructive suggestions on how to make it better.

Thanks all!

Its not that a huge number of players want FFA PvP. I think thats best is they have a seperate, designated server for FFA PvP..and the majority of servers with PvP + consequences ruleset

I do not believe that anyone here can tell you with even an 80% certaintly that you will or will not like a game. Many games usually have a trial account that allows a player to experience the game for him/her self before buying. However , since its just released...Funcom has more important things on their hands. Expect a trial around DEC.

Three ways to look into if AoC is right for you.

Best
The best thing you could do is NOt ask us. But try to find your old SWG buddies, or players you enjoyed fighting with. What are they playing. If any of them are in AoC...what are their thoughts. Finding old players can be hard. If you cannot, I threw a couple of codes that may help you on my site.

Better
A) MMORPG finder. Put in what you want and it gives you some recommendations
B) MMORPG Finder based on the Burial grounds database. You select a game, and it tells you where the majority of players are now playing. The Low numbers reduce its power. However, the majority of SWG players say they are playing AoC

Using these methods at least you are empowered.

OK
Look for websites that you respect and read their reviews. Several on MMORPG.COM, and I wrote one HERE. Look for ones that are well written and well thought out...forget the 7.2 or 9.7 scores..they are meaningless

Worst
Asking on Forums. Often will get very biased opinions from players who "I hate  everything...including AoC" and "I LOVE AoC..because I do nothing else with my life!". Threads can easily devolve into a flame fest

Good Luck

I would say that the median level for AoC players is still lev 40. As such, I dont think that there is an immediate need..however it is on the horizen

I agree that WoW content is years ahead of AoC ...about 3 years. I am willing to allow and support a game that has the basic framework to become a great game. As you mention in your post, AoC has that framework. We just gotta let it mature a little

A solid company will patch as many time as it needs to. To ensure a smooth game and a happy populace. You may not like the fact that they are patching 2 times a week, I however, am impressed that they will go the extra yard to do so

Absolutly they can and should change the rules. Although the question implies a bias they should not. Fact is in the world of MMO you have to adapt and change on the fly. Something is not working out...you improve it. Why let is fester if its not working out? I would agree that Funcom give a alternate server type to those who want the old system. That seems fair

The OP leaves out full details.

Fact is, I dont see how +50 is any different than -50. If you enjoy playing your character youll enjoy lev 50+

Eventually the buddy system will get working. I wager if anyone truely wanted to play this game they would have already bought it. The remainder are those who are still unsure if they want to abandon their characters on other games, or are concerned their system may not run AoC (Both are valid concerns)

From the standpoint that we are all trying to gather resources and make money. Everyone gathering everything seems to lead to a LOT of competition for resource nodes. Do you think it would be a beter idea to change to characters can only learn 2 or 3 gathering skills, instead of all of them?

Just wondering

Well, it was bound to happen. I suppose the main question is, how will Funcom respond? ONe good thing is that it was on the newbie help channel...which for the most part , noone subscribes to
