CCP Fallout:

Hey guys,

I've heard that during the Live Dev Blog broadcast some of you may have thought that Hellmar was saying that Walking in Stations will be available with the March 10th retail release of the game. I'd like to clarify this with the following: no, WiS will not be released March 10th. Stay tuned for more information regarding WiS and when it will be available.

I apologize for any confusion, dashed hopes and the like.

This thread is a YANSWT. (Yet Another New Server Whine Thread).
They usually pop up monthly on this board, so the topic has been beaten do death, back to life and dead again, and the remains put into a public display for everyone to beat.

And this is where i disagree. Yes, those things are done currently in fleet channels while the fleet idles somewhere at a pos or safespot. But if only a tiny fraction of what ccp showed with their conference room is implemented, it might be an awesome tool to show others your plans on a map. Something that is very difficult to do currently, sharing a whiteboard with 200+ people is..messy..and you don't get to look at the actual map.

I don't think WiS is purely cosmetic. It opens up a whole new world for existing 0.0 entities, with new tools for management. If you can script your own npc as promised, it will allow for some pretty interesting uses.

I do agree, however, that without those features it would be wasted development time.

I highly disagree. So far, at least from the 0.0 corps and alliances i have contacts to, the responses to the latest videos were largely positive. It will not be something that will make everyone stay at stations forever, but it could make for some pretty nice fluff. Fleet briefings on the main staging station, speeches, or simple socializing. Imo, it might make eve a lot more world-ish, without affecting pvp a lot.

Athmospheric flight has been put on hold a long time ago. Iirc, the dev who explained it wrote that other projects were deemed a lot more important, and thus athmospheric flight is still in prototype stage.
From what i know, it proved to be a lot more complicated to actually integrate it into eve in a meaningful way. Making a feature that has absolutely no effect on anything but visuals is wasted development time.

There is always a bigger fish. But honestly, no. I don't dominate either, and i have quite a few more sp than that.
When you reach you 10 mil, you will notice a lot of areas you'd need to improve to "dominate", and the same will happen with 20, 30, 40, 50 mil sp... ;)

You must be pretty desparate if you need to dig through tons of mails on battleclinic, find a lossmail from '07, and post it here to try to reinforce your point.

Obviously, you do not understand one of the basic principles of eve which makes it a lot more newbie friendly and diverse. Every ship, no matter what role it has predefined through its bonuses, can be fitted in very different ways. There is no one uber setup, and no one uber ship. Especially cruiser sized ships can often gain a lot from fitting undersized weaponry by freeing up grid to spend elsewhere. Neglecting dps and improving your tanking ability vastly does a great job in small scale pvp where fights usually last a lot longer, and tanking ability often counts a lot more than pure gank.

Having that said, I'm glad you mentioned the Vexor, which has less armor, less hull, one less lowslot, and lacks the additional turret hardpoint the Thorax has. Additionally, you are conveniently ignoring the reduction of mwd cap penalty on the Thorax, the greater overall cap of the Thorax, and the higher top speed. Of course, the higher tracking of small guns escapes you just as well as the vastly reduced cap use. (small neutrons suck less than 60% than medium neutrons)

But let's not stop here, you also make a terrible comparison to Megas fitting undersized weaponry. Talk about comparing apples to oranges - or, in this case, a battleship that has enough pg to fit neutrons/ions and a few 1600rt+mwd to a cruiser barely having the grid to even support a full rack of ions and mwd..

Epic fail rax with small turrets, if you want to do that use a Vexor.

Epic fail on your side. A heavy tanked thorax makes a lot of damage with drones, not with its weaponry. You can use a fit with a heavy tank to outlast your opponent, while still dealing a lot of damage thanks to your drones and weapons. If you use medium neutron blasters, your grid won't be enough, if you use electrons, small neutrons are actually better. Especially as they don't suck as much cap.

That's a bit exaggerated if you ask me.
Eve is by far no happy place. If you read the lore, you can see it's obviously not meant to be a nice place either. (To be honest, Eve has probably the darkest lore of all mmos.)
But still, it won't punish people for no reason. It punishes people who don't like to read things, who ignore warnings. For everyone else, it's like playing in a sandbox or stomping others sandcastles.

Remember, though:

But experienced players told me - it doesnt work in practice. Pirates, gate campers...etc can still catch and destroy blockade runner with ease.

Tell those "experienced" players to get some experience with blockade runners.

I am one of those blockade runner han solo dudes, and so far i have not lost any of my runners. I have supplied fleets with needed ammo and fuel, shipped cargo worth billions through unsecure space, dodged countless gatecamps, and always made it out in one piece. They are, as a matter of fact, invincible in empire, including lowsec, if the pilot knows what he's doing. 0.0 is a tad mroe difficult because of bubbles, but it is still extremely hard to catch an experienced pilot.

With the changes, they will just be a lot more invincible, because their useless active tanking bonus got changed into something better. The only things you need for them are t2 hull mods (one day of training), the racial industrial skill to 5 (this may take 20-25d depending on attributes), a covert cloak (another month, or only a few days, depending on starting skills). And all those skills are very handy in other ships too.

This immediately caught my attention. Doesn't this facilitate the purchase of ISK with real-world money? I thought EVE was one of many games that discourage such activities.
(I don't play EVE, I just follow news on it.)

It has been that way for ages now..

You can give someone Isk, he gives you game time, and vice versa.

This makes it impossible for people to make real money out of isk trading, and thus the only people who can use it are legit players.

It is, if you ask me, a pretty neat way to circumvent a lot of problems you have with rmt. You have it under control, you can see how money is flowing and affecting things, and you get free subs out of it, which are even used by legit players who populate the game world and make it into what it is.

And as you can't buy yourself to victory in eve..more comedy killmails for happy bato..

//edith: Just to make it clear, the isk trading with timecards is protected by ccp, and thus perfectly safe. There are of course people who try to compete with that, but most major gold selling sites (which i won't link here ;) ) are permanently out of isk for eve..

Take a couple of trials, join PvP corp, learn about the game and have fun.

Edit: typos

Reminds me of the whining we got when tracking was introduced to turrets, so you could no longer kill anything with a bs, to be honest.

I find it interesting to solo things that are designed for grouping, it may be a lot harder, but that's what is fun for me.

Btw., people demanding another playstyle to be nerfed when it does not even affect them..yeah, i hate them too.
