FFA always, but happens rarely. The only place I know that is anything close to being FFA is Ultima Online and on the Siege Perilious server. I thought of going on this server after the years I had spend in UO until I found out about the tedious gaining system that is in place there. Sadly I don't have the time to dedicate to gaming as I once did, so the many months to gain high levels are a no, no to me on Seige. It is still the most pure form of pvp that any MMO offers however if you have the time.

The game comes with a 18 rating... the price for me will be £7 I think, thats less than four dollars, thats two pints of budweiser in my local, I think I could do without that each month.

Honestly, any adult who complains about 7 quid a month, well they definatly need to get out more. People moaning about the third world blah blah go out there and help, instead of moaning about it and doing nothing, just dont knock a gamer whos willing to give up two pints of lager for a months sub of fun!!!

Your first is always the best they say, that counts for alot in life...

But for an MMO it has to be my first fight in Ultima online... Three players RP'ing guards, myself RP'ing a bandit, the fight that ensured was one of the most exhilerating moments not just in gameing, but in life... I lost, as I did many more times until I finally became a killer to be feared, practice makes perfect!

Greetings all!

I had never heard of this game until a friend told me that had got into beta testing. A diablo 3 I soon learned it might be?

I had heard there was one in production, but never knew it was actually a reality until now...

My first experience of online gaming came through D2 back in 2001, I totally fell in love with it, then they took away my whirlwind godness, it was then I moved on too UO, which I played for the next 6 years, but I never forgot about Diablo and its addictive gameplay(Whirlwinding those midgets in the jungle act, how pleasing was that, the most pleasing experience of any game to me!!!) Now however I find myself thinking that this could be the game that experienced/older (it is for ADULTS ONLY afterall, only bad parents will let there kids play) Will enjoy for the foreseeable future, the demo was good in my view, it got slated by a few, but to me it showed tit bits of what is to come. If this game has half the pull as the Diablo series had(15+ million sales, there would be no WOW without Diablo!!!!) then a real gaming classic could be born, atleast for me, or thats atleast what I'm hopeing. =)

Take a look at the reviews and the list of games that are here at MMORPG, the games are mostly up there on merit. Try not to be bias in any forms, whether its the looks of the games or from what people have said about them. I'm not blowing this games trumpet, but it's been six years since I first started playing Ultima online, in that time i've come and gone, trying all the latest or the best rated in that time only to find myself returning like a boomerang.

In my time of playing MMO's however, there is one thing that I think is vital, and that is having friends to game with in whatever game it is, it could be the lowest ranked game of all time, but if you have some great friends playing alongside you, then it will be the best MMO ever no matter what!!!

To the original posters words.

I think alot of people still think UO is what those in the early days found... Murdering buggers who would slay you just for that knotch on their belt. Todays UO is alot different, pvp is very much consensual since they brought about splitting the world into two mirror images, one that is safe 'Its called Trammel' and the only time another player can attack another player is through either being in the same guild or being at war with another guild. Being able to war guilds on an individual basis is what has created in my view the most unique RP experiences a player will ever find in any game.

The second land, the mirror image and evil side of Trammel is called Felucca. The first thing your notice when stepping into Felucca is the music and the desolation of the land its self looking mean (Although you can turn of the desolation if you choose to make it look normal) And the music, the look is meant to put fear in you because in Felucca anything goes, anyone can attack anyone. If you see a player with a name in red coloured lettering, be prepared to fight or run, because he is a murderer and wants your insurance money (Yup, these days you can insure anything valuable so you dont lose that special item, some love it, some hate it...) So why go to Felucca? It has increased resource gathering, it has those powerful stat scrolls that you could sell for a fortune, it has increased fame if thats what you need, but most of all it has that satisfaction of perhaps not defeating that killer, but atleast escaping with a backpack of gold from his bandit friends to live another day...Priceless. ;)

RP is still going strong on Europa, just log in and take a look around the Trinsic Moongate and your see a elven village thats popped up, not to mention they are a great bunch of folks. They have Tavern nights at 7pm gmt on Mondays and Fridays I believe. Take a wander over to Cove to find the Baronship going strong, their neighbours in Vesper are always at it, more often than not the dirty buggers!

There are many, many guilds that can cater to the needs of many, whether you want to be a pirate or a staunch religious captain in the ranks of an army, its there if you know where to look, sadly it seems to be more hidden these days, but dont give up, its there, just harder to find these days.

With the developement of the new Kingdom Reborn client, things have been slow lately. But with adding the new arti drops to legacy dungeons and the upcoming halloween events, its looking promising. Still gutted they pushed back the expansion, but if they keep throwing in tit-bits in the meantime, then things could go well... Dont forget to look out for Count Draconian! That crazy bugger is planning something big you just know it, one of the best dev's we could have!

Welcome back and don't be afraid to come on over to Europa... *Pluuuuuuuug* CD Shop is located just up the road northwest of Umbra, its got all your adventureing needs!

I remember when I first started playing Ryzom, I was digging away at the gates of Pyr when a stranger started talking to me in a tell. We talked for quite awhile as I struggled to get to grips with harvesting and it was only after sometime did I find out that the person was a CSR, I remember one thing I said, I said how I had come from Ultima, and they said many had come here from there also due to the the skill based system that old UO players had learned to love...

Perhaps if the servers do finally close on Ryzom, then there may be a few from Atys that will find there way to Sosaria, if you can be patient and let the graphics fade away and allow the depth of the world to suck you in, then I think your find a game that has freedom you never even dreamed of... Want to be a vampire sheperd then be one, want to be a cook that sells poisonous pies, go for it... The skill based system allows for anything to occur, it just takes your imagination.

Theres a 14 day trial going on, if anyone wants a guided tour then feel free to send me a PM, i'll happily give you the tour.

I spent around a year and a half playing this game and it was a rollercoaster, days I would love it, others I wouldn't, much like any game!
But it was a truely unique game, and the community were great, even those nasty Karavaneer's had some good souls amongst them.

The Kami will live in our hearts always though and the great mother of Atys I will always talk to in Braveganzar!

As SpellShaper said, with realtime combat the need for a pristine connection is important. For example a player from X continent playing on Y continent will create latency for the whole map in an FPS game, thats why if you play a game of that type your suddenly find the map go empty when someone who brings in latency appears, some even have options to boot the player that is causing the problems.

Most MMO's use a roll of the dice to determine the result of the encouter so latency isnt so much of a factor, It hadn't even crossed my mind this problem would effect AoC, and it will with Spellborn also. Lets hope the separate servers for continents do find a solution to it, or it'll most likely go to the roll of a die... *yawn*

It'll be good to hear from some beta testers however on how performance is, and what type of powerhouse computer i'll be having to fork out on.

Warhammer will possibly get the most subs after the initial launch, so I voted that, however its AoC i'm looking forward to most just because its that genre I grew up with in the 80's thanks to big Arnie. Spellborn I think could be the type of game people will pick up when they have had enough of their current MMO and think, hrmmm this is actually pretty damn good.

They did say this year for a Euro release, I'm not to sure how wise it is to push it back as they will be competeing with other upcoming mmorpgs at that time.

Its looking like a busy first quarter for MMO's.
