I guess this

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html

says it all.

No need to use more words on this  thread, so typcal for young frustrated adults on MMORPG.COM

You know PAY to play, that's the holy grail of gaming.

A lot think they can do it, very few are choosen. And Conan is certainly not one of them.

How in the world anyone could compare Wow/TBC anno 2008 with any other MMORPG project outthere.

MMORPG.COM users have lost ALL reality in game design, fun and polished game development.

As for UO: ask its developper Lord British: he made a mess out of his own Tabula rasa MMORPG in 2007.

And those who say that ALL elements of Wow anno 2008  were already present in UO are out of their minds.

Auction houses anyone? Arenas anyone? Battlegrounds anyone?

Its the same as saying every shooter brought nothing new to the genre since Space Invaders.

So I only like space invaders and the rest is a copy.

What are you all smoking I sometimes wonder....

The ONLY BAD thing ?

What about the other 3 zillion ???

The man is probably smoking some heavy stuff now from OUR money. 69 Euro for a CE.x 110K  and 49 Euro x 500K, (well give a few % when you calculate dollars/euros).

2 problems.

1 you need at least a 8600 GT grafix card for a portable. The 8400 GT is far from good.

2. and for MMORPG's ... it is very important to have 7200 rpm Hard disks even on portables.

Unexpected data always needs to be uploaded when you meet other people on line (from central RAM or HD).

Both Wow and LOTRO use very good techniques in loading graphics in "background", but you need to have that data flow up and running to your grafic card or you will encounter frame drop losses.

I guess you have better graphics in Wow, because LOTRO uses slighty higher vector graphics. Just go into Bree and you'll see the difference, but I guess even in Shattrath city you'll have frame drops with this portable (30 FPS I guess).

Just be happy you didn't try Conan with this machine or you would end up looking at postcards instead of gaming.

But just down the resolutions somwhat and you'll enjoy playing the games. Both Wow and LOTRO have excellent game play and that is the only thing that counts.

I agree,

because WoW/TBC is not just a good MMORPG, it is by far most sophisticated MMORPG ever designed.

It is the ONLY MMORPG where YOU decide how YOU play its end game since patch 2.3 ...

and that's why the children and dungeon dwellers whiners left it to the people that want to have fun in playing WOW the way THEY want it.

Not even one other MMO comes close at the moment (and please do NOT mention >the EVE spreadsheets). I'd rather look at grass grow in my garden.

Our Wow guild has an average age of 35 years.

40% women btw and some women are even the most ennoying  when loot has to be decided. :))

Wow has 10.7 million people playing it.

And YES people in China are ALSO people.

It is just fantastic to play arena or a dungeon with you 15 year old son and your brother of 37.

BTW :

I----> Do you know the difference between a 10 year old boy and a healthy man of 52 ???

Indeed like stated above:

Mage gnome is a good combo.

or

Rogue human (perception).

To the OP:

You DO realise that the maker of UO made a NEW MMORPG at the end of 2007.

Tabula rasa. Hello ? still awake ?

Enough said.....

------

In your comments you only said you played ONE MMORPG very passionately.

Guess what: that game made a big evolution in these last 12 months and because you're blind you don't even see it, let alone play it.

The rest is frustration and "sandbox talk" of some grown up "teenager" that has nothing to do with designing video games.

Real life is FULL of frustration. MILLIONS of people try HARD to do their best in RL every day and NEVER get a thank you or reward. And YOU want to  punish them further by letting them play a game where DEATH and punishments rule.

So typical this attitude of a lot of MMORPG.COM forum users. So typical also for youngsters aged 19 or 29.

Thats why "old grognards" like you don't see why normal people just need to play Wow.

That's why its time you do need to grow up.

I was thinking the same thing.  With summer break, give it three months then check the drop in subs.  Right now, I think they will see a little worse than the typical drop, but still ok.

Summer break or not.

Not many will play Conan beyond the free months play.

And you forget the world is FULL of better MMORPG's which are far better and more polished than this FunCom construction.

Said the man who obviously never played a lvl 70 on a Wow PvP server these days.

Besides arena is pure adrenaline these days. I know players who smashed their keyboard against their screens. Only to play again after calming down after 30 minutes. :)))

You should be blind when stating Wow doesn' thave world PvP these days.

To the OP: I can only speak for EU servers:

Try Al Akir. One of the best PvP servers and always full or locked status.

In the summer you will have  the chance it is not locked, so create a character and level to 70 in about 15days (*24 hours) and be in time with WotLK

WotLK will have a full open world PvP zone - even on pure PVE servers - BTW. and at least an extra siege battleground.

Including mounted (manned) tank combat, siege artillery (team manned) and Air strikes.

I also will play WAR as I love PvP.

At least we'll have fun in both games.

Those still playing should look at their guilds and friends list in game.

2 out of 28 still log on after 3 weeks on my server. I did this on purpose (adding friends because it gives an excellent view of the attrition).

The rest is at 7 days off or longer....

This number is incredible compared to LOTRO and even Tabalu rasa in their first weeks.

I'd say 25 - 30 % would still play it past the free month (which is high because above the many design  problems we have here NON standard hardware requirements).

700K - 70%=  maximim of 250 K subs in the summer at the most.

Before the end of the year WotLK and WAR will come out, with respectively 3000K and 800 K units sold in its first weeks. Leaving Conan at the sub 125K category, because half would change to the new hypes.

Like a few polls on MMORPG.COM showed here:

70% drop outs of first time players.

Meaning 30% subs at maximum out of ??... 700K units sold ??

(this day Conan stays on the dealer shelves in Belgium: for  the national Game Mania stores it is no longer in the top 10 of game sales).

It had a MASSIVE explosion the first week and than dropped suddenly.

Word is out.

Even on amazon.com user ratings give it an average of 3/5.

So the hyped launch was indeed a success !, but the game isn't and it will show on:

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart7.html

No doubt about that in 3 months time.

This is my opinion. I see no better alternative at the moment, AoC is the game I keep logging back into. I have never been a Conan fan, but I must say I do like the way the game is laid out, how the combat works and the FFA pvp.

I wanted LOTRO to be the game for me, as I am a Tolkien fan and have read a lot of his books, but the gameplay and feel about that game did not appeal to me.

WOW is a really good game, but I just don't feel like logging in anymore even though I have an active subscription. Maybe I just played it too much.

EVE was once my all time favorite game. But it became a struggle to play in my fragmented amount of time available.

After 80+ hours played in AoC I have experience one memory crash, a few graphics glitces and I got stuck in the scenery once, which required a relog. So not everyone are experiencing a lot of bugs.

For me AoC is the better game at the moment.

I can't imagine playing Conan above Wow.

So many choices in its polished end game, 30 minutes or 3 hours : so little time and so many ways to have fun.

3 characters lvel 70/. Most played on a pala wit 140 days and still I don't get enough. As a Justicar done about 2000 Warsong Gulch on this character alone and its like playing and watching a new fresh football match over again.

The tension of not failing in Arena at 1780 scores these days  with friends and yelling on that micro OR downing a new boss in SC. Brrr.

The only thing that could tear me away is perhaps WAR, but Conan? Conan was a VERY BAD thing for commercial MMORPG's. A very bad product.

Wow.

Its end game is a wealth of choices.

If you have 30 minutes to spare or 6 hours. each time you log on the game adepts itself to your OWN playing styles. Battlegrounds, normal dungeons, heroic dingeons, daily quest, solo play, arena play, e-sports arena play. WotlK comes out in 4/5 months and will add balanced world PvP you can hop in at every time.

Most polished MMORPG ever.

You name it the game has it.

The result? 62.2 % marketshare. of which half in US and EU.

Most other MMO's are at sub1% to 2%marketshare.

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart7.html

Just check it out.

People at MMORPG.COM hate the game because it has a monopoly position. But they just don't see WHY 10.7 million play it - the hard way OR the soft way.

Tell you something....

Even IF Conan were F2P, I wouldn't be playing it anymore.

Logged in last time 3 days ago. Of the 25+ UK guild members only 2 logged in in the last 7 days.

Most played up to level 25-30 and then didn't log anymore.

Makes you wonder that I was even one of the last of the guildies to have a peek. With my attitude towards the game, .... Wow, makes you wonder just how much will keep playing this game after 1 month...

I didn't even had the impression people in LOTRO and TR were that fast to quit.

You saw the quiting in LOTRO after about 3 months (after which I stopped also), in TR it was about 4 weeks before you saw the droppings of people you met.

As a Wow player I don't think I'll ever drop. Stop sometimes yes, but deleting the characters, naah.

I won't miss the AoC one bit.

I have to disagree on the part I highlighted. I play WoW and just recently quit EVE after playing for a little over a year and I have to say EVE probably has alot more focus on balancing PvP. This may be because EVE is pretty much a PvP game first and PvE game second.

I said "Not only makes this Wow as the most analysed  PvP and PVE game yet" bbecause I meant:

1. Hundreds of websites analyse and follow all WOW PVE content of the game with strategic analysis. No other MMORGP comes even close. Not even talking of the hundreds of add ons and UI respecs possible. Just talking of the analysis themself.

2. The millions of arena fights serve to Blizzard as one giant PvP labo to analyse the interaction between classes and their evolution in micro figths. Like 3vs3 or 5vs5.

This leads to a massive amount of data to fine tune the classes. Of course you'll never achieve the complete balance, but its arena system and the latest adition of pure e-sport principles (players create their lvl 70 with free gear to choose) makes for a near perfect balancing tool in an MMORPG.

Together with the millions of dollars development resources Blizzard has, this results in an advantage - both in PVE and PvP - no other MMORPG can even come near at the moment (just look at the Conan classes at launch).

Hence most polished, hence most analysed gameplay.

And... the developpers are using this analysis already in the latest patches in the last year. Not only in Arena btw, but you can feel the results in the BG's as well.

The fans who are buying this commercial should know that even IF they would really plan this, it will take a "normal" company about 6 months ALFA and BETA testing before publishing.

Are they really thinking they will stop the exodus in subscriptions with "paper" thoughts. Because first you have alfa testing, than Beta testing, then go live !

Or will they just alfa test on live servers ???
