AMD all the way.

P4's are NOTORIOUS for heat. The first batch the rolled off the assembly lines were mostly critically flawed in the heat department (so much eat was produced on certain spots it fried the chip). AMD has NEVER had that problem.

Well, that's one of the things I was going to point out. Not neccisarily money (though some DEFINATELY helps), but for sure, TONS and TONS of manhours. So far I've sunk at least 2000 hours into the game that I'm working on, and all I've got to show for it still is a login server, bare basic client (which is 90% network code), and a 500 page design document that's been copywritten. That's with 3 others giving me about that much time as well. So yea, it's definately not easy or quick. If you've got money, or can get funding, then you can at least get team members who are dedicated.

Hell, music and graphic artists are pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to find without funding, as they want to get paid regularly. That being said, if you'd like some insight into the process, I'd be willing to share the experiences I've had so far. Maybe I'll post it in my blog. Haven't decided yet.

Yea. I'd only charge 1/2 of what they do, but I'd fill the party up with like 5 people, and drag all their little butts around, and make a killing :P Except you know, I don't have a WoW account, nevermind a nicely equipped level 60 :/

Well, it depends. If you intend on charging, you could contact any of a number of publishers. Also depends on where your market is. If it's primarily the US, look into a US based one. Also depends on what kind of MMO you're making. It wouldn't be too far fetched to contact a korean company like Hanbitsoft or something to get your game published either. Tell you what, if you want to discuss it more, drop me a PM with your email addy, or IM contact, and I'll help point you in the right direction. Mainly, away from people like Dave who ruined Mourning (which had so much potential early on, but quickly faded once Dave fed them money to publish).

Basically, yes. I think they'll give you a % of how much it makes too. I haven't tried to publish an MMO through them, mainly because I don't need to, but also because it's a Malaysian company that caters primarily to kids and non-english (usually chinese) speakers. You could contact them though if you were curious.

There's one other solution, if you wanted to try to make a profit. The Kaneva Platform comes with an MMO engine already that can handle physics. They also do all customer service and billing for the game. The catch? They take 50% of the profits. But it's an option.

There's too many conditions on the trial. Accounts wiped every 48 hours, only 1 race, and no pvp at all. Granted I'm not big into PvP, but if I'm to be stuck as the non-pvp race for a trial, I won't get a real feel for the game. So I'd rather forget this game, and ask for some others from everyone.

Try Rubies of Eventide. The sheer number of classes they have SHOULD give you many options to please you.

I beta tested that game :/

There's nothing redeeming about it at all. Quite basically it was like a souped up version of UO, except worse.

Hello :) I started up a blog about 2 weeks ago. It's about my personal experiences inside various MMOs from a hardcore gamer's perspective. So far I've gone over a handful of games, but would like some suggestions for others to try out and write about on my site. So far I've tried:

Conquer Online
Flyff
Maplestory
Nbaseball
Lineage 2
Rubies of Eventide
WarRock
Project Entropia
Anarchy Online
Everquest 2
Everquest

I've played more, but forgotten them already. I'd prefer free games, or at least games with a free trial, as right now I'm a bit short on the greenbacks. Please don't say "read the sticky" as I have, but there's not a lot of information available for the games up there, so that's why I'd like to get some suggestions from you folks :) It's much appreciated.

http://trindras.blogspot.com is my site. Feel free to poke around and leave comments. When I actually get a comment that's a question or something I feel I should respond to, I will :)

No, this was not a ploy to get people to visit my site. I've already listed it in off topic once. This is a call to the community for suggestions on games to play then review.

Yes...I've heard of it. Right now I'm using it to homebrew the MMO my company's going to produce. We're using realmcrafter to get familiar with the scripting language it uses, which is similar to the engine we plan to use for the final version.

Solid tool, definately worth the $50 if you have it.

thats just dumb.

Testicles are soft and squishy. Put enough pressure on one of them and see what happens.

Tell you what. Go grab yourself some vice grips, or just a vice, put ONE teste in there, and keep tightening. You'll see that you can indeed pop one.

Perhaps "pop" isn't the right word, but it's the same thing. Rupture is more like it, but that's just a fancy way of saying "tearing" or "popping".

Yes...it is VERY possible. I've heard it happen under 2 different circumstances.

For me, I was kneed EXTREMELY hard in the testicles. It popped, I got a surge of adrenaline, pushed the stupid girl away, and then collapsed on the floor, and woke up 3 hours later.

My friend was riding his bike in the woods. He came to a hill, bunny hopped over, caught a tree stump he couldn't see, and well, we carried him back from 2 miles out in the woods and brought him to the ER.

I had one of my testicles popped :( Was so painful, and I was deflated for 3 months *sobs*

BTW, the most common Lineage 2 emulator was homebrew and runs entirely in Java with an SQL database. The server code may have been leaked, but no one uses it.

People used to use it...but not anymore really.

And what the op wants is for the company to actually release the files publicly. But you're probably right, so that way he can get a couple of friends going on his own server. Personally, I'd like to open my own server up, ask for donations, and try and get a few hundred on there.

Ah, but that's life right? One can only dream.

I met my wife on a singles website on a fluke 3 years ago. In the past (before I met her) I had met several girls/women from online, to varying degrees of suceess.

At the time I decided to go to the site, I was working 90+ hours a week at 2 jobs, still sore from my broken engagement of 8 months (it had been 4 months since at that time), and back from a date with THE DUMBEST girl I've ever met before, since, and probably ever will meet. Off a fluke, I entered in the site, registered a PAID account (so I could actually CHOOSE which profiles I wanted to see), entered in an age range, and...nothing! Well, on the first 6 pages anyways.

On the 7th page, my wife's picture was 3/4ths of the way down. She actually wasn't even in the age range, smoking preference (I don't smoke), or drinking (she said none then, where I said social drinker). Anyways though, I read her profile, and something just kind of struck me. I dropped her a message, and we started talking through their instant messaging service.

About 3 hours we talked before I had to hit the sack as I had a 14 hour day ahead of me the next day. She gave me her number, and I called her on my lunch break. It was then that I knew she was the one. Problem was, she was in Michigan, and I was in Massachusetts. So...for 3 months we talked, delved deep into each other's lives, and completely got to know each other, swapping pictures and letters daily, along with our phone calls.

About 1 month before we met, I had the unfortunate problem of having to move back in with my parents. For 6 months I had lived with my aunt, as I was trying to get back on my feet, and re-established in my hometown. However, her (now ex) husband just didn't want ANY "kids" (I was 20 at that time) around, as one of my cousins (she was 19) moved out already, and my other cousin was about to head to college. So, I was stuck moving in with my parents (and they charged more rent than I would have paid if I coulda found an apartment!).

I quickly found out they were going through my things, auditing my checkbook via my bank statements that were in MY name (which technically is mail fraud), and going through my bills (at that time, my only bill was my cell phone, other than rent to them). Oh, and they were trying to dictate times for me to go to bed as well. See, I usually worked from about noon til midnight, 5-6 days a week at that time. So I'd be up till 4-5am, and then hit the sack. They didn't like this as they woke UP at that time.

Anyways, I kept telling my wife what was going on, and when my parents said I was spending too much, and they THEY were going to be responsible for my checking account, or I had to go, my wife told me to just leave everything, and come live with her.

I got up here on my birthday, the day I turned 21, almost 3 years ago. While I still haven't found work up here, I'm starting the Univeristy of Phoenix Online in the next few months to get a bachelors, then a Masters, so I can move us away from here, to a better place, and hopefully travel to the places she's always wanted to go.

Technically it's not open source. Only the engine is. EVERYTHING else is add ons: The meshes, their network code (there's a version in the engine, but it's not as optimized as ryzom's), how characters develop, etc.

All the engine does is handle the graphics and the client/server communications. Everything else (including the graphics), you need to add yourself. What the op was getting at was release the actual server files in an open source way (basically going to one of the public licenses).

Neither. Both are garbage :/

Goonzu's text is near impossible to read at 1024x768 and gets pretty repetative. Dofus...well, doesn't have much to do either.
