Secondly, NCsoft doesn't MAKE any games, theyre a publisher.

That's a very important detail that very few people seem to care to pay attention to.

If you want to be technical, NCSoft tends to get a rather large stake in devs that are making games that they publish. Almost so much that you could say they are pulling an EA.

The reason why this rumor has merit is due to Blizzard's Jobs page. Shortly after work on the expansion began, we heard rumors of there beign disagreements between the management and the Devs. Shortly thereafter, NCSoft built a new office in the same city as Blizzard's headquarters. Then, Blizzard's Jobs page had a LOT of new listings. Couple that with a story from NCSoft saying they were courting WoW Devs, and you have a pretty feasable rumor.

It's being made into an offline/online MMO kind of like Phantasy Star Online, except that your character will be playable online or off. Offline, you'll be playing with AI as teammates, online you'll be playing with people.

Just about any MMO will play on dialup, but some are better than others. Obviously, you need one you can buy in a store, so that eliminates quite a few "light-hearted" games. RO's community however is the biggest piece of crap this side of battle.net. IF you can go to the library nearby that has broadband, you could try some of the downloadable, even free ones. Maplestory would fit into that catagory. Lighthearted, easy to learn, and a semi-decent community. Only thing is, it's 2d sidescrolling. Quite unique in the MMO world, but suits dialup well. If you can't download anything, my recommendation would be Final Fantasy XI. VERY in depth story throughout the game, not dark, but not light either. Kind of in the middle. I have no other suggestions unfortunately.

The star system is based on the quality, as well as the length. While you may get 1 or 2 points for a short post with good content, you may get 4-5 for a several paragraph long response with well thought out statements. To be honest, the stars mean nothing, as you don't get anything special for having more stars anyways. Hell, people still call me a raving, unprofessional lunatic because of the post I made about remaking Mourning (which I stated before we scrapped), yet I have a perfect 100/100 rating and 5 stars. Then again, there's people who make great posts who only have 1 or 2 stars.

for myself I am still too angry at them to go back to that game. Wasted money on the game, guide, and 3 months when the game launched.
I am so tired of these games launching in such a shitty state. Thats why I stayed away from EQ2 for 6 1/2 months after it launched. I started it just recently and according to people I speak to its like night and day now compared to launch. Since I didnt play then I have nothing to be angry about with them

Isn't that kinda like hating your doctor for not telling you you're going to have a heart attack when you turn 65, but when you turn 68, you'll have worked through the heart problems and be perfectly fine. Seriously, games are GENERALLY made by companies who've been invested in by either a publisher, bank, or some sort of venture capitalist who DEMAND to see money coming in, to get a return on their investment. All too many times, they rush a game out before it's ready. From my understanding, that's what happened to Horizons. Since they went bankrupt, and were bought out by another company, I've heard nothing but good things. I recommend people at least give a second chance to a game that had a rough start (unless it's Mourning), and see how it is 1-2 years later, and not use the "Well I'll wait till they fix the bugs so I know the game will be good" mentality of the previous poster.

Decent gfx, pretty L2-ish. Pretty huge grind @.@;

Holy crap does it get into ridiculous amounts of grinding in a hurry. I got to level 25 in 2 days (which is hauling serious ass by anyone's standards, 2-8 hour days) and well, I spent 3 days after that trying to level. No wonder why people advertise in game buying level 40+ accounts. The game very well could take a year out of your life to reach 40! The graphics are decent, but the towns are impossible to move in (well almost), as people sit afk all day with shops open, or fishing.

It's Korean Law
And the reason is simple:Because Korea has VERY protective laws that keep most gaming companies from operating locally. Thus Korean MMO makers have a huge advantage in the asian market. Lineage, Lineage II and Ragnarok all benefit from these laws which is one of the only reasons they are so popular over there.
There's a good writeup about the issue on mmorpgchart.com (doesn't discuss the law but it explains why those games are so huge in numbers but so few American/Europeans actually play them).
For example: Lineage II has almost 2 million players. But only about 60-70,000 are North American and even less are European. Lineage I is similar while Ragnarok Online appears to just make numbers up out of thin air :)
In fact most asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, and others) have very protective laws that make it very difficult for western corporations to set up shop locally.

So if Western gaming companies can't set up shop there, how did WoW and other great Western MMOs get released in South Korea?
I'd also like to know more about these "protective laws". What websites does Korea have that shows a detailed type-up explaining these laws?
Btw, what was that first-person shooter game that was banned in South Korea due to political reasons?

WoW and a few other large company games have made it over there because money talks, B$ walks. WoW is a cash cow, and Blizzard wanted to tap the markets. What did they do? They license the game to local operators who know the laws, then send them translated client/server software and patches well after the US release. Seems to be working well last time I checked.

Not worth it. BYOND games suck. Period.

Dragonball Online? I found a website for it, and it says the game's up, but there's no links to download or anything. Is it a BYOND game too? If so, it's a waste of time. If not, can you give me a link please?

I found this game (http://t4c.xavus.com/#) and want to try it out...problem is I don't wanna fork over $10 without trying the game (I'm currently ona VERY tight budget and $10 wasted wouldn't be good), and was wondering if anyone played. If so, could you post here saying you play it, or possibly PM me? It looks interesting from what I've seen so far, and am anxious to try it.

I want to do this to give the old, new, and cool members of the MMORPG.com community an experience of how different, fun, and cool others are compared to the ones of the U.S. and the english versions of other foreign games (ex. Lineage II).
I want to do this for you guys but first I need some okays (and hopefully no no ways). Depending on the outcome of the okays and no ways (through posting and voting), I'll gladly do it. Btw, if my homies don't speak up, it will be a real dissapointment.
Well, tell me what you think. I'll be back later becuase it's time to go to school. I graduate next month!

You realize that giving people instructions on how to circumvent KSS or the Japanese equivalent is against the law, right? That's identity theft.

Heh, don't I wish. If I had a spare HD, I'd go ahead and install win98se onto it and play maplestory from it.

2d SIDE SCROLLING. Dofus won't be side scrolling. It's a strategy game.

Are there any other 2d side scrolling MMOs out there for the english market. It's too much work to try and make Maplestory work for me (See post "Weird Bug" for more info), so I wanted to see if I could get my 2d SS fix elsewhere. I do NOT want battle position (it's not an MMO) or gunbound (it's not really side scrolling OR an MMO).

Mouse is a little over a year old. I've tried 3 other mice, same thing happens. I have 60GB+ of anime to backup, and to be honest, a CD burner does NOT do a good job. 750MB is about 3 episodes. Would take me a few weeks to burn it all off on CDs. Now you know why I want a partition without reformatting.

Update:

Just reinstalled WinXP, uninstalled Maplestory, downloaded it again, and installed it again. SAME PROBLEM. I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Looks like my birthday money will be spent on a DVD burner and some media :/

Well, 30 minutes more with MS tech support. Tried a few more things, nothing worked. I was applauded for all the attempts I made on my own to fix it, and for being patient with them while they are trying to help me. Not many people would deal with tech support for 6 hours +. They are continuing to work on it from their end. I'm going to reinstall winxp over the top of itself, and see if that fixes it. If not, any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Even if it's crazy and off the wall. Because formatting is NOT a solution, it's an alternative.
