@ Thread Title

They are all over at my place, in Atlantic Canada.   We've over-run my and three other surrounding towns, so far, and more are on the way.

We're haveing the most knarly and wickedly outrageous Block Part-EH Evah!!! ...and it's not stopping until the end of time!

I was comfortable with both but I have to go with the second as my favorite.

Still, I did get the feeling of an EVE soundtrack from them.  But, I'm certain that once I'm in the game, with it's different play-style, that I'll feel that it fits this game well enough.

AoC

The rest are(will be) great games but I'm tired of high fantasy and need a couple years away from it to be able to appreciate it again.

Even after AoC, I'll be done with sword and shield MMO's for awhile.  Sci-fi is my #1 passion in entertainment.  I'm not worried about the lack of sci-fi, at this very minute, and believe many sci-fi MMO's are in the works for the next few years.

I'm thinking low settings.   I've been reading that the game uses 1.5-.1.8Gb's of ram to run.  This doesn't leave much for your OS and the OS comes first in priority.

If you can up the ram even by a single Gb you may be able to play medium settings but 2Gb's(4Gb's total) would be better even on a 32bit OS(would show 3.2-3.5Gb's installed).

EDIT-- Pent D !!  Sorry, I was used to seeing threads about P4's.   Medium, add the ram and med/high-high.

  Conform but don't convert.

It's the same thing for me, pre-NGE SWG was the longest time spent and most enjoyable MMO, to date.   I'll try out anything new to see if I can get that satisfaction from a game but it hasn't happened.

My hopes, atm, rest on Earthrise and for the sake of conformity AoC will be my pass-time until Earthrise's release.   .../crossfingers -- no vapourware whammies

I did the EB/GS pre-order and recieved my scratch card over a week ago.

If your store doesn't have it now I can't say I hold to much hope of them getting anymore.   Call/visit instore and ask about it, ASAP.

EDIT- As far as I know,  the mount rave cards are only for pre-orders.

Stick with the ram idea for now.

I've read posts that mention AoC eats up 1.5-1.8gigs to run, now compare that to your OS(Vista and it's ram pre-caching).  Since your running 32bit, 3gigs total should be ok but if you can, get it up to 4gigs.

Eventhough 32bit OS's don't recognize 4gb's they do round down to about 3.2-3.5gb's.  This should make a big difference, as the game and your OS are competing even before you start clicking away, atm.

Will it be ok, I actually think so.   Sry, I just got the impression you wanted to run the game on high+.   I'm hoping for med-high myself but I'll have to see.

Anyway, I think it will run it but with that cpu and the 8600 I think it will run inbetween low-med(hoping for medium).   But, again just a few days after launch would give you so much more info. on the real sys. req.'s.

SOE, just hand over the rights to this IP and call it an industry milestone.   The stranglehold you've placed on this much loved lore threatens it's core marketability.   You've alienated hundreds of thousands of consumers in this industry and it's time to just let it go.

Agreed, lol.   Most of us are spouting out monster rig configs, atm.  It will be a little funny if Funcom can actually make good on the min. required spec. systems promise, at launch.

400mhz is the RAM BUS i think.....thats different than the RAM speed

If this is what he meant than, perfect.  The 800mhz DDR2 does run at 400mhz per channel, DDR2 is dual channel, so 800mhz total per stick slot pair(400mhz per stick @ 200mhz per stick side).  I just wondered about the ram he chose in the link, it's rated as a 1000mhz DDR2 and the motherboard only supports upto the 800mhz range.  Then I got confused when he listed the 400mhz.

Anyhow,  I can just see a point during mid-late 21st century when we complain, from our nursing holmes, about how if our games require more than 2 terabytes, than it's just rediculous.  .../epic fail

Well I suggest a Nvidia 8800 (512mb or higher) or something in the Nvidia 9 series.   I think you should up the ram to 4 gigs of DDR2 800 mhz, on a 64bit OS.

I'm concerned that the P4 3.2 chip won't be what your looking for, though.  I would go for a multi-core proc, instead.   That P4 cpu is over the listed min req as supported for the game, barely.   If you can hold out for even the first week after release, at this point, you'd atleast be certain of exactly what the game needs for good performance.

EDIT-- The moment you decide to jump up to a vid. card like these your going to need a new PSU(650w for single card and 850w+ for SLI builds).

If you plan to set the rig up to run more than 2 HDD's, 3 +optical drives, 3+ 5.25 case fans and a PCI sound card, jump the PSU up to 800w for single gpu card and 1000w+ for SLI.

Well Mordria,  the stygian was disturbing but then again, any female that's out for blood and armed can be, IMHO.   .... I already, lol.

I've enjoyed the pics and the game's graphics are outstanding.   I'm counting the days until launch.

Teala,

For me, just the level cap at 13 was a dead give away for the different patches, then the talk of the un-optimized code sealed it.

..And Z',

I fully agree there are limits.   I had a different experience in Van's CB but the OB was manageable.  I also was one of the very few in LoTRO that ran up against  a weird chat port issue in it's OB(I was informed of the fix on the 3rd day, fast enough for me in a beta) other than that it was a smooth OB.

I just see the trend of what happens in one publishers beta quickly becomes the accepted 'norm'.   This isn't bad, except they all can't be great, just like they all can't be terrible.   What I can't get my head around is when players compare a beta to a game that's been up and running for years.   I just don't get that one at all.

Anyhow, everyone of us have an opinion and usually nothing is going to change it except experience.  I'm waiting for launch and I'm giving it 3months.   What issues exist on launch day, I'm going to watch and see if there addressed(solved or in the works).  Only then, am I going to decide what I truly think but I do like their overall game's concept.

It's also undesirable for MMO consumers to have a non-existent patience threshold while simultaneously demanding perfection.

I don't like throwing money away either but perfection has never existed anywhere in life.  So, if your not interested in giving any new title the breathing room to start up, it's just time for a new hobby.

Open world?  Ok, I see where your coming from but the battlegrounds are instanced just like the minigames, it's just larger in scale.   I think the idea is to have about 3 different entry points to a peticular keep map.

I may be missing something here but I never known any MMO that doesn't pre-cache player data between server and client.

Anyhow, I agree that it's a crappy wait and see after launch.

EDIT-- .../tiphat  Hiya! Stradden

They do admit to the high graphic detail and it was part of the plan from the start.   As for the pre-loading in sieges, it's really no different than what was seen in the pvp weekend.

The much larger number of players in the sieges can be addressed server side by lowering view distance in the battlegrounds to start off and I'm willing to bet they may have other ideas(some in now/some for the hotfix's) to avoid the unplayable lag/slideshow frame rate factors.   Dedicated server nodes for the battlegrounds would be one way to go.

I agree that they should've called anything but an OB but it's too late now.
