On the other hand, the world of Conan also depicts women as the bravest and toughest of adventurers who need wear no more than a chainmail bikini to slay demons or to travel the world in nothing but a few strands of cloth.

About the second paragraph;

...Sexual allure is among the most powerful weapons in human-kinds arsenal.

Yep, off the official community forums.   It's been a huge thread since they started it on Friday.

I agree with the hyphens but no I wasn't joking.  Take a look at the community page introducing RP ruleset.

"Uber-lEEt--PuffDaddy--Roxxorz" <-- isn't in RP-Hyboria

Nope!

..One word name

..no numbers

..no variations of ingame character names like 'Konan'

..You can't keep your beta characters but you can keep your 3day headstart toons

EDIT -- On the RP servers the naming convention is going to be even stricter than this.

The Ip is everything that has been mentioned, as is the game's rendition of the subject matter.  But, don't forget that in the lore, it's the few(the players) that pull themselves up out of the common slave/peasant mass backdrop(the Npc's) and distinguish themselves, whether they're male or female.

Also, be mindful of Tortage's setting as a slave trade port, this is far from high society, in Hyboria.  So yeah, a bunch of male ex-slave brick walls (turned slavers) that are wheathered by the lash and the stereotypical dolled-up submissive female pleasure toys.

I actually think this may appeal to some female players, because, as they build their characters and distinguish themselves(just like the male players),  they atleast stand out, apart from this backdrop.

In additon, in terms of RP'ing, they may like to incorporate some aspects of the more notable females characters from the movies.  -- Conan's one true love, that's lost in battle(Valaria, I believe) or Red Sonja.

Both of whom have horrid tales in early life, all of their own, and decide one day, 'Not Me, Never Again!' and pick up the sword...

I agree with most of what you've said but I truly believe that both games will succeed, in the end.

It will just come down to those who can only see success in terms of millions of subs.  This belief structure, in itself, is a bit of a curiosity, as WoW is the only MMO that has ever had and sustained a client market share at/above the 1.75 mil subs.

I don't see both of these titles combined knocking WoW from it's dominant perch but I do see them as the start of a trend that levels out subscription numbers in the long term, combined with other anticipated new releases over the next couple of years.

Followers of WAR would be best able to tell me if they see the ability to grab a huge portion of the dominant Asian market in WoW(the almost 6.5mil of Wow's 10mil subs) or not.

At any rate, to me they'll both be a success and have loyal fan bases past the first year mark.  Which is nothing to sneer at when compared to the outstanding number titles that only get lucky enough to be one quarter wonders.

  I will Niceguy'.

It's likely both, with a multitude of patching(or re-patching if you prefer) while the servers are under load and the client is on as many different pc configs as possible.   Just to check if the current general CB client is truly as set, as it seemed to be before the game went gold, patch by patch, up to current build.

Funcom dotting the i's and crossing the t's before launch.

Just felt the need to post that I like this thread and can't find fault with any comment thus far, it's refreshing.  I could expand on the ideas shared, so far, but there's really no need as most people would already know about the why's.

It's nice to see some people are able to step out of their prefered gaming corners and admit that it's become an issue.

It's great to support your favorite team and all that.  But, when it starts turning people off from trying other titles, not because the game is terrible but the games community seems to be.  Well then we have crossed a fine line and it's just hurting everyones bottom-line industry wide, consumers and developers, alike.

Still, I expect nothing about this to change and can only see it getting worse with each new release.

When will be the real Beta test , where Funcom gets a chance to stress test the actual game client?

By the way. Those funcom guys are right funny , why did they decided to use 5000 people to test the game they are not going to release

Thats like saying you have a brand new 2008 race car that you want you want to be tested for stability and performance, but giving the team supposed to test it your old 1998 race car to test drive.

Nope, it's more like your testing the prototype 2008 model rather than the finished product for the open market.   A better example is that of a chef over the soup pot taking a periodic sip from a spoon to see if it needs more salt.

It's the same client as the CB.  It's just not the up to date version.   The series of patches throughout the OB will test,  patch by patch, for anything that was missed or anything unexpected to crop up.

Imagine that, a company trying to triple check, and then some, their past work before it's released to the general public.

Thanks, for the link Nadia.

Once again here's the important reference; ..."The Product Director went on to say that “running the Age of Conan beta is and will remain an expense, as it should be for us as developers. The focus for us when running a beta is to get invaluable feedback from as many testers as needed, helping us to get ready for launch,"...

Link the it's not a test.

It's a beta to Stone and Gaute.  I mean they just spent weeks saying so.   The community forums seem to agree with them.

Stress test, is not only for the client engine, it's for the server side connectivety under load.   The 50k from FP and the rest from other sites win a spot is a large scale test and your payback for the testing is the  limited sneak peak.

Funcom has the finished version of AOC , but they decided to make open beta test - that will influence oppinions of thousands of potentional customers , on old and buggy client.

And than when 50% of open beta testers decide not to buy the game , convincing their friends and families in process.

Than Funcom will whip out "real" client and the people that stuck and had trust in Funcom will benefit from playing AOC in its full shine , and culled of all "non believers"

Amen

LOL

They decided to have a large scale OB stress test.

..."For the love of God, well that's just unheard of." lmao

They've said the reasons for the lvl 13 cap, the bugging of some the quests intentionally and the reasons behind the older game client without optimization.

Anything with the word Beta=Test.  Your the Tester and you test what the developers want you to, not the other way around.

Try finding the last 2 Jason Stone interviews (one vid and one internet radio).  Then go over to the community forums and look throught the open beta sticky's/known issues.

The proof about the OB client's age is all there and was, for the most part, clearly stated more than a week ago.

Those should have everything about the age of the OB client.  What has been supported, what has not and why.

There's a thread here with the answer but it's just going into the install folder and double clicking the simpleconfig.exe(i think it's called).

Umm, your .8 under the min. requirements in cpu.   Your a gig of ram shy on a Xp system(3gig shy on vista), in my opinion.   Sorry to hear about the trouble but your in need of upgrades.

Try re-installing the video drivers after downloading Driver Cleaner Pro and using it in safe mode, first.   It's just the easiest thing to start with.

Nvidia drivers for the 8800 series, atleast, have been known to screw themselves over if you've tried installing/re-installing drivers(the same old or new versions) more than once on system.   Windows(Xp or Vista) just doesn't clean out the uninstalled drivers well enough.

Your system, itself, may appear stable and fine when overclocked until you really stress it with a large app.  So, I'd rollback the overclocking as well.   Whether it's back to stock or incremental is up to you.

At any rate, the nvidia cards are touchy, at times.  When an issue appears, it will keep happening until it's fixed and the drivers are clean installed(like above).  This has been my experience, anyhow.

If this doesn't work it's most likely the driver version itself but it could be the card(s).  I just have a feeling that it's really the cpu overclocking that's caused the issue to begin with.  ...GL!

EDIT-- I'm wondering about your PSU, too.  But, I figure your set there at 900w or above, for a SLI setup.

All this caffe latte froth about this or that pre-launch, well I couldn't care less. I am sick of all the negatron BS, and tbh their revolting, negative whining has actually made me more sympathetic to Funcom than I would have been otherwise.

Gimme the final release for a few weeks and I will make my own mind up.

Why are so many people impatient? It's only 3 weeks for heaven's sake. If Beta, in your opinion, is a rip-off or badly managed, then just side-step it; surely that's a no-brainer.

Melmoth

Dremac,  I can understand your point of view and if that's what helps out in your entertainment, perfect.

For me, I like the first out of the gate feeling of a launch; and the one thing about AoC, unlike the others I've played, is that the market prices won't have been fixed by CB or OB testers for much of anything, in game.

Seeing as the crafting doesn't take place until lvl40, server prices for crafted items will be all over the place.  This is a early selling point to me because I like watching/playing the markets, in MMO's.

Sure, some minerals, wood, leather, basic loot drops will be close to a standardized price at launch but not everything.  I can't wait to see how the prices for Pots fluctuate from trade post to trade post.

Make sure you don't stray to far across the line into griefing.   You'll just end up banned.

Otherwise, umm... have fun and GL!
