good luck moderating potentially millions of 10 year old wowtards....FOR FREE

You were fine for the majority of the thread and not really trolling until this post. I don't think money is an issue for these fansites otherwise they would not have been made. To call a playerbase 10 year old "wowtards" makes me completely happy with your decision to not play Warhammer. There was an actual discussion going on in this thread for the most part but you just made your stance look bad. Would you want to see posts like forthelulz on official forums? Hell no, and it makes me cringe to see them here. Some people here come up with very valid arguments that actually make me think, like Salvatoris, Pheace, among others, and every time I think about saying, you know what, I wish you guys would get that forum, it is posts like yours that make me think not having them is for the best.

and you think there won't be thousands of immature "barrens chat" types in this game?! you do realize that wow players now say that wow stands for Waiting On Warhammer? you expect amateur mods to deal with them? hell you can't even take one post you find offensive!

eq2 has forums, they're bad, over moderated, no one cares what's written there anyway and everyone who has the slightest clue of the game posts on eq2flames instead. yet it was mentioned here as a good example of a mmorpg forum.

vanguard beta forums were a mess, thousands of posts about things that were just bad (and still are), big part of those posts were straight out crap, the other part was ignored by the devs anyway.

official forums don't make sense for any game, no one cares what solutions people suggest, have you ever seen a game actually implementing one of those? (maybe you have but that sure as hell seemed like a miracle to you), the traffic you get for actually important questions (technical ones) is extremely low and in every mmorpg has by far the lowest post count. all other questions can be asked in game, there is no need for official forums.

That entire post is total BS.  The EQ2 forums are active, searchable and packed with information.  Anyone who wants to can go over there and look.  The assertion that anyone who's anyone posts on eq2flames is absurd.  As I understand it, they aren't even an officially supported fansite any more.  It's just a place to bash the game these days.

Official forums are generally packed with gameplay guides of all types, server and class specific discussions, answerers to everyday questions people might have.  I don't think a lot of people actually believe their posts on official forums lead to gameplay changes, but they are still always the best place to find people to have those discussions with.. and certainly the most likely place for a dev to read your ideas.

qfe. also don't drag soe games into this forum...soe should never be used as a comparison unless you are discussing manure...also to those who moderate these fansites:

DAoC did not have Official forums and the community still functioned very well.

I played DAoC for a month about a year ago.  I eventually gave up because it was impossible to find any hard info on the game.  If I had a question I had to spend hours searching poorly maintained fansites instead of a few minutes on the official forums.  I eventually quit the game because of the lack of community and information that come with not having an official forum.

It's just plain lazy on their part not to have them... and it's a service I have come to expect for my 15 bucks a month. I'd rather skip this game all together than have the only dev interaction be three random softball questions of their choice answered every Friday like the do with DAoC.

I think the only people who are really vocally supportive of this idea are associated with one of the fansites to begin with... since those are the only people with anything to gain by not having official forums.

lol. there you go! same thing happened to me when i tried doac. i gave up. also..i agree about the idea being supported by people associated with the fansites....what's in this for them?

I think you are a little confused. I am sure Wrenn, Garthlik, Morg, and the others would tell you that they would still have their fan sites regardless if Mythic had their own or not. I have never heard any of them complain about running their own fan site so if the owners aren't complaining, why are you?

lol i think you are confused. it's great that people have fan sites for this game...don't get me wrong...its just that

fansites are not a replacement for an official game forum. are the devs saying they will visit these fan forums

to see people post about balance issues? should it be  wrenn's,garthlik's,or morg's responsibility to deal with

the griefers, whiners, and forum politicians? to email valid complaints to the devs? to provide (and yes i know they will have a phone line...to india)tech support? you really think that not having forums will make this all go away? at least when you have official forums it is contained there. don't like it? easily avoided.

now it will spill over into thses fan sites...who will be doing FREE FORUM SUPPORT FOR EA

Since they won't be spending huge amounts of money on a forum, I presume they'll repay their customers by lowering the monthly subscription?

that just has no logic to it at all????????????any way mythic have already said that the sub will be a little more than the $15 a month

so let me get this right...they said no forums for monetary reasons...and they charge MORE?! yep. good thing they made certain they won't have to listen to complaints! more than 14.99 for a wow clone?! i will never play this game and hate wow and honestly...wow does it better.cheaper.

lol! good point! everyone here defends the idea of no forums because of whining...

1. you don't have to use forums...nobody will twist your arm.

2.if things are going ok in a game nobody really uses them...but what if it isn't going good? would you keep silent and pay them anyway? just walk away from a game you have invested time and money in?

honestly i think this no forums thing is because when the game hits live 1 million players all finding out the game is just a direct reskin of wow will crash the forum!

I'm tired of all this. SWG is dead. My game ain't coming back. And this forum is the same old arguments carried out by the same people day after day after day. I think it's time to move along.

Someone shoot me an email or something when they decide to pull the plug. Until then...

Peace out.

later bro. make sure to carry the story of soe/la's nearly criminal behavior to other gamers! cause that's what its all about. screw the game.

I agree!

While I'm not posting much here either, I will never let SOE or LucasArts off the hook for what they did to us!

i honestly don't even care about this rumored kotor mmo. if LA is involved...no money from me. they are just as guilty as soe.

So because you can't sync your complaining in with other people, on an official forum, you're not going to play a game? That is so say, in the off chance that you are actually unhappy about the game? So you're prejudging what the game will be like, before actually playing it.

Personally, you, and the other people like minded to you, just seem to be the typical petty bunch of forum posters who are usually the cause of companies not wanting an official forum. Mythic has stated, time and time again, that if you have a suggestion/comment/etc to the game that you have multiple ways of getting that statement to them. You directly telling someone at mythic you don't like their game isn't constructive, helpful, nor even worth the time to listen to. That is not to say that you are a useless, and lack importance as a person, but that your opinion in no way helps the company of that game.

Therefore, what is the point of adding something which is useless at the cost of the customer's money, when that money can be better spent fixing known issues submitted by helpful people in order to increase the games potential?

good way to tow the line! support a company that takes your money and makes certain you cannot complain about problems with the product!

any game good enough to play deserves a forum! so what if people complain? that isn't the problem. the problem is when they are mismanaged or the devs actually take design notes from crackpot posters.

besides in the article they say it has to do with the cost...because a game where nearly 1 million tried to get in beta will have money problems...

"working as intended" for EA !

it was intentional. look at the history. first the nge runs off most of the fans. now they bork every thing the remaining fans find fun. right after the nge when weapon stats meant nothing we discovered the nym's slugthrower was the best remaining weapon. they nerfed it. people made lots of jedi characters..they nerfed the heal. "well space combat is still fun". nope! they nerfed that to! i bet if  lots of players went on the forums and said that the character creation was the most fun part of the game they would bork that as well!

no forums just means that they know there will be reasons for player bitching shortly after launch and they don't want to hear it. no money from me.

So what?

So Smed never said it?

If you SWG vets ever wanted to be respected or taken seriously the op implying that Smed is "crazed and desperate" and "Making a mad throw of the dice does not help.

Nobody takes this seriously. Its a joke move on to another game.

Not only will you not get SWG back as it was but even if you did you should be ashamed to go back to it.After all the bashing of SOE in general id question the subs if they suddenly went back up because of a "rollback".

Just move on already and quit lamenting the past.SOE is not going away any more than Blizzard would release a expansion 3 times inside of a year for WoW.

Fact of the matter is Smed just got a promotion to produce more games.Go ahead and twist that as i know only a bitter SWG vet can.

Yes, sure. This is the SWG Vets Forum. Sorry if you feel unwelcome here. Meanwhile, I and other vets will continue to lobby against SOE and for a return to the pre-CU game. Cheerio. 'Move on', heh.

See the whole point is that you guys ARE NOT lobbying for anything. What you are doing is insulting SOE berating SOE and in general spewing hate directed at SOE .

You said it yourself......."lobby against SOE"....you are OPPOSING the very company you want to cooperate with you!!!The same company you want to return to a pre-cu game actually OWNS SWG.

What you ex SWG vets are doing is completly counter productive to your goals. The very man that could turn back the clock for you is the 1 that constantly receives hate mail and is insulted on most game forums.

Quite frankly i could care less about "feeling welcome" here i just stop by here to see how much denial you guys live in.

The logic of insulting Smed and then berating and opposing the same company that he works for to get the game rolled back is just astounding. Please explain to me how this will accomplish your goal 3 years later?

we don't want the game back. we are here to keep new players from jumping into this awful game ran by an awful company without properly being informed about how they will be treated and how they will deal with 4 year old bugs. and with the reality denying fanbois here it seems we are needed. spewing at soe?!

soe spewed at us! yet another fanboi defending a crooked company.

Well, I own both companies.

So yes I am promoting the game. I hope you like it and will promote it as well.

MMOsmart LLC is almost 12 years old ( i know the website reflects that :P ) and Zyon Games Corp is my newest pet project.  It takes a lot of time & love...and Irish whiskey.
