leveling isn't so bad when you have friends the same lvl, as soon as they pass you or fall behind ,is when it can start to get boring. Or when you are making an alt, and want to do a dungeon the whole "your not the right class" is the major kicker and also the lack of effort people are giving is annoying.

So for me it isn't so much grinding its more of a community that I dislike

honestly if they scrap a game this far into devolopment it will kill th trust with there customers. Its pretty much saying, oh yea, we promised you this game, that is going to be the "best game of the year" but we scraped it. Would pretty much tell me that they aren't serious about producing anything.

If you really wanna know the reason WoW was successful is mainly becuase of the RTS market. There where alot of people who played Warcraft/WC2, Heck Warcraft 2 was still going strong while C&C and stuff was out. Heck I would even today mark Warcraft 2 higher than C&C3.  Then when Starcraft came out, it pretty much became the biggest game out there for RTS, then later on Warcraft 3 came out.

So really most of WoW success was that it had years and years of marketing behind it, both as a company and a product name. While as games like D&D, Warhammer are pretty much nitch markets to begin with. I think the only one that may have a chance is AoC. And that is mainly due to the movies. The only other one i see is harry potter if they dont wait too long. Star wars still has a chance it just needs to get out of Sony's hands and remade from scrach.

Also my opionion of the gfx in warhammer, I think is substandered. I mean it looks dated, and just doesn't look right... Maybe it was just the settings of screenshots, but I thought square heads and rectangle limbs where outdated.... also, the crafting system just doesn't fit into "my cup of tea" as it where.

honestly i have to agree with you all on it. But also people just like being human.

Granted the Tokien universe is starting to show its age, I think about the only new ones is, Star wars, and mass effect. But in a way they where still based off the tokien universe.

Honestly what i wanna see in a game is, things like vampires, werewolves, witchs and stuff (no offense intened to any wickens)  you know mythlical stuff. But ballanced and playable. I think in UO you could become a werewolf if you got biten by one i think....

Honestly thats what drawed me to D&D was there where rulesets for that sort of wacky gameplays.

i think the reviewer got canned because he talking about an advertiser and not the game, even if it was a side comment, it pretty much says it that he stepped over a line.

I mean you can bash a company, or a game, but dont bash the people feeding your parent company. The ads.

Btw the over drama about, if you let X fire a reviewer are dooming the gaming industry. Is utter nonsense, its like a food critice getting fired will doom the restaurant industry or something. Not going to happen.

also freedom of speech only protects you from being prosicuded for saying something, not fired.

you know you pretty much discribed the game .hack's  mmo "the world" pretty much everything was custom, and rare items where event driven and where rare, pretty much 1 or 2 of a kind items. Granted there was no open PvP in that game but still,, all the basic ideas you want are there.

Honestly WoW was easy to play and what not but I mainly play MMO because of my friends, and i wanna do things online with my online friends. With wow because it was a loot centric game. Guess what all the fights where about loot. Wah wah, I want this epic I want that epic, you already got an epic this run. Honestly it was like watching little kids fight over candy.

We where all friends with PS, which was a skill based game and didnt have any loot to speak of. Sure there was a fight over maybe a drop of a jackhammer or minigun but it was quickly resolved by one person killing the other until one of them gave up. Then everything would be fine. Then the guilds on wow at elast on blackrock allince, honestly was run by kids... some kids even as old as 25-30 years old. I'm guild leader, or im an officer I should get the ledgendary item, wah wah.

For me it became more of World of Dramacraft, and i got tired of it. So i left and now waiting for AoC or Jumpgate:E or Darkfall.

as for SWG, it may be your cup of tea, but for most of us, they changed the flavor of the game while we where playing it. It was a "class-less", "level-less" system. Then they changed it to a class and level system. So alot of people left, including me. The space combat was 'ok'  if you dont shoot where the cursor is, then you wont do much damage.

The NDA release may be a ploy to get more first day sales. If you remove the NDA, that means people who hated the game can say they hated it beuase of X reason so people easily swayed by opionins may not buy it.

The also hype can also go down to early release, I mean when SC2 was announed at the begining of the year, there was alot of hype, then the esimated realase date was announced to the end of the year... that is a big hype killer.

They really haven't shown that many videos of AoC. So that also has an effect on people's opionion.

honestly im not so sure this is a "asian" game... I mean the office where they hire the GM's to moderate the game is based in california...

Blizzard has 10mill subscriptions because of the fact that 1/4 of them are 1 person buying 2+ games to sell accounts and gold. AKA gold farmers/aftermarket gold sellers. That and there is alot of asias starting to get into America MMO. Planetside, WoW being the most popular.

honestly they may as well do that, i mean considering you can "pay" for arena points with ingame gold. so I dont see any real reason why they should't just go and do that

yea I would like to see a updated Planetside, the fact that they didnt really add anything like new weapons, vehicles for a very long time pretty much says nay to the universe.

Maybe pick a better story. or make a new one up, just keep the same type of features as PS did.

The problem is that when you go to sleep just about everything you did went up in smoke. And you really never felt all the beifeits, that some of the contenes gave you. I mean really "faster respawn time" by i think 2 secs. really isn't something for me to go crazy over. About the only fun thing to do was to take over a factions home cont. and use there vehicles, which then you feel like a noob as you cant hit anything with it =p

Honestly I dont think PvP is going to be that much of a problem in AoC, I mean every class has the ablity to "sneak". So you should be able to get away unless you are unlucky or the other guy is cheating. Plus I think its more of a skill game anyway. So just becuase someone has a few lvls on you doesn't mean your screwed. At least thats what it seems to me.

all level based games are exactly the same, you have exp so you need things to kill.

Its the same as just about every text based rpg (aka, MUD, MUSH) You do quests kill stuff and grind.

There where very few that did a level-less system but even then it was a grind of some sort. So one thing all rpg's are going to be is a grind. I think even planetside has a grind to it. Only difference there is that you kill other people other than NPCs.

As for AI, honestly there is no such thing. I really haven't see a good "Adaptive" AI. And when you are talking about weak NPC's I dont think designers want them to be ubersmarty creatures. AoC may change that tho. So IMO about the only game that was different was preNGE-SWG, and the upcomming DF. They are both level-less. If you want to be a good killer then you have to go out and kill things. If you want to be a good /fill your job app\ then you go out and do that.

but then you have people like me who like raiding just not all the time, and like to pvp just not all the time. and lvling 2 chr's just to statify both sounds/feels too much like EvE =p
