I dont usually post much on the forums anymore, usually just read the great articles.  When I saw this, I was truely sad. Its hard to loose someone, whether it be a co-worker or a family/friend.  Im sorry to hear about your loss. Keep in mind that the faithful following of mmorpg readers..even the naysayers are with you on this.

Great work FC!

Sadly thats just activated accounts, not active subs. Wait and see what the real subs are before jumping to praise.

And please, dont PM me again to ask me to stop not liking the game.

"But why so much hate? And don't tell me it is because you payed 50$ and you saw all those broken promises. Cause if you are a veteran gamer (which I suspect you are) you should have bought a million crappy games by now, like all of us. "

To answer that part of your PM: The point is we shouldnt have to be accepting of crappy games.

A PM, is prviate for a reason, the fact that you made it public, only reflects your chracters, grats. No one will want to PM you after they see this post.

Thank you Silverlobo, given his statement do I need anymore proof that most people bashing AOC have no idea what they are talking about? And the few that do most of the time do not know how to rationalize that others may like the game or the customer service for that matter? Im not trying to be a fanboi here, but why do you guys persist on bashing something that you dont like? Play something else and move on

Right,

I played WoW a few years back, back when it was just regular WoW, and MC was the best end game instance out there.

I loved this, but gradually got bored due to various reasons, more me needing something else to do rather the pc game...but that's besides the point.

basically, I need to know whether it's still fun?? I know it has millions of players etc, but would I just feel like the game had been ruined if I came back now?

I loved instances, mid levels were a blast, are there any more?

what happened to the level 60 instances like MC and BWL? do people still do them?

are there many more single bosses like onyxia?

what is the newest PvP game like? people still play Alterac valley, and what level does that start?

The game is actually still fun, just join a click of people that have the same goals and your good to go. You basically pvp grind if you want fast epics, and you do instances if you want to pve more than pvp. Because if you get pvp gear now you will have a ton of hp, but dish out hardly any damage compared to a pve geared individual. Anyway the game is still fun, and its the best working game out there right now. AOC is good too, but you should wait on that untill everything gets patched (big problems anyway)

My my OP and Thrader seem to have revolutionary comments. Regardless what you hear, not every fanboi hits 10 accross the board if the game sucks.  Sure some people do that, but not all of them or I would be guilty of it, and I know for a fact I didnt give AOC a 10.  Aside from that to the OP AOC got an 8.2 or higher because someone else out there has a different opinion then you.  And if you spent the time to read all the millons of posts on AOC you wouldve noticed that people actually like the game regardless how broken it is. It has alot to offer, you dont think so? I dont care and no one else here does.

I liked the Horde Cities more then the alliance ones. Also I found lvling on the alliance side to be Ezmode. I have been on PVP horde ever since wow launched, im used to the cities...the quests and the models.  Besides...how else can I belong to a guild called "Gnome Stompers" be a Tauren and make it work.

This being said...you would think that more people would be talking about the game being awesome instead of most being saying things like "Shut up and go back to WoW". Are they angry just because it's a casual game...and some people think it's  hardcore? I was just wondering what some people thought. I was actually thinking of playing WoW because I have some friends that play it, but I figured there is a reason everyone hates it, and I would like to know. Thanks in advance.

OMG I HATE HATE HATE WOW, I AM SO QUITTING RIGHT NOW OMFG.

P.S. see you on wow in 6 months, kkthxbye.

no offense to the OP or anyone who enjoys this game, but the game is not finished.  and when i say it's not finished, I don't mean the quests are unfinished, there isn't enough content or animations suck.  no, when I say the game is unfinished I mean it's programming is horrible.  if you are lucky enough to have a computer that doesn't get sick of aoc's horrible programming, good for you.

but the vast majority of people, are playing this game on 30 and below fps, people with super computers getting no more than 15 fps.

and don't tell me the human eye can only register 20 because it's bullcrap, even if it WERE true, you can still FEEL it because it's on a computer, and anything below 30 will lag your computer, which is why 30 is the MINIMUM on consoles, because you can't sell a game with shitty performance.

the negativity aoc gets is DESERVED.  they shot their own foot, gamers didn't do it.  so come in here and preach all you want about how great the game is.. because there are more people who are upset with conan than actually enjoy it.

people don't think WAR is going to be the end all be all game, they are hoping it will be.. and if it performs as crappy as aoc does, then it will get the same negativity, and it will also have the the same type of people who will defend every broken aspect about it..

Funcom has stated that 700.000 accounts have been created like said here.

http://www.funcom.com/wsp/funcom/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&func_id=1305&table=CONTENT&item=1004

Now - lets look at those numbers more closely and see what we find out.

Acording to Funcom we have 700.000 accounts.

We have 49 servers AOC servers world wide

We have the statement from Funcom that 3500 to 5000

 http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&template=content&func_id=2328&table=CONTENT

(at peak times) can be on the servers at same time.  That is by the way pretty accurate since ppl have beein reporting (1500 ppl online in fully searched servers  - showing medium load)

Now... Lets predict all the 49 servers (including French, Spanish and German servers) are full at the same time.   Max load = 5000 ppl

5000 x 49 = 245 000.  Thats what ?  455 000 short ?

Infact - IF those official numbers from Funcom are correct we should be seeing around 15 k ppl max on each server.  And like said before - ppl have already showd 1500 ppl showing medium load on servers.

So if 700.000 sold boxes is true - then we can assume that less than half of those accounts are playing and that would still leave us 100.000 players short of the maximum load of the all servers.

So again - Its all PR and nothing else.

they can have 700,000 active accounts that is entirely possible.  They may not be able to support all 700,000 accounts playing at the same time...then again people usually play at different times and days during the week due to school and work.  Plus there are such things as Hardware updates that can increase the amount a server can hold, or even new servers with the same names that hold more as well. My point is your post is purely speculation and unless you work for them you will never truel know what is truth and what is plain old

Everyone has their own opinions of AOC, I liked the game, although had several problems, so I took a break for a few months from it.  That does not give you the right to come on the forums and force your opinion on us. Victim of FC? says who? you? and just who are you to inform us that we are victims because we enjoy something you dont.

More and more with the advancement of technology, we live in a world where our wants and desires are met very quickly.  Instant messaging lets you communicate at the speed of light, Ipods let you program the songs you want to hear without commercials, microwave ovens let you cook meals in minutes.

This creates a mindset where we get used to having what we want without having to wait long for it.  Let's apply this mindset to gaming.  Everquest is routinely held up as a standard of the classic MMO (no disrespect to UO or SWG).  EQ was wildly popular in its day.  Loved by most who played it, it wasn't long before gamers and devs began to wonder how it could be made even better.  If only you didn't have such long time travels to get to where you're going.  If only the death penalty wasn't so harsh.  If only you could solo your way to the top so you didn't have to wait to get into a group.  If only they provided a map on the screen so you never got lost in the world.  These are all features that have been added to subsquent MMOs and now have become standard.

The result is that the rewards come quickly.  The biggest draw of role-playing is the satisfaction you feel when you receive a reward.  Therefore, the faster you are rewarded, the faster the mystique of role-playing wears off.

The opposite of instant gratification is "deferred gratification":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deferred_gratification

A reward that comes after it's been earned with considerable effort.  Now I'm not naive.  Nobody wants to wait around all day to find a group only to come up empty.  So there has to be a balance between delaying the reward and still being able to achieve it.  The key is the fun factor, imo.  If a game rocks, you're likely to not even notice the time it takes to succeed.

I think you may be on to something, however be as it may. Instant gratification is not the only problem plaguing the genre. I think part of the problem is, too many companies are comming up with too many games that arent great, just decent.  I think we will truely see the genre come back when we see another hit like the Original EQ, and how it made gamers feel all fuzzy inside when they played it.  Untill that happends I think the genre will become like most Hollywood movies...they made another one...spent more money on it...but it sucked soo much more.

The game is going to be great, perhaps in a few more months. They need to step down on the gas and get it done ASAP.  Its a fun game and it will hold a great niche group of players. However the longer they take to repair the game, the more and more people will leave to go back to their old games.

Would be cool to be in RVR in a heavy snow storm, its so bad you have to be pretty close to see anyone not to mention the enemy. LOL....

I just want everything, or at least mostly everything to be in some working order. Most importantly I want to see people play the game and get to cap level within a decent amount of time, in other words not be maxed out after 2 days. Also it wouldnt hurt to have enough content/rewards in the game to prevent from mindless grinding.

I think Aion will be one of those under the radar games, that most players will either avoid because they fear its an AKG or because they will mostly go between WoW or WAR.  Eitherway I really dont care what everyone else does, im looking forward to Aion.  Its a beutiful game, and the concepts it has are great.  Then again im also really excited about War and the WoW expansion.

It's never too late to join WOW. You can solo to 70 with just quests in about a week. The only trouble is, you have to go straight to the top to enjoy any group content, because most people with a main character won't condescend to do "old content" (ie lowbie dungeons) even with their alts. They just quest up to 70 and start all the new stuff.

As I said, never too late to start. The questions is, why would you? Just go read some books or play basketball or ride your bike and wait for a better game, that is unless you like endless loot grinds which leave you with loot that becomes obsolete faster than computer hardware, especially with another max level raising expansion coming out.

I just want to state that what Wearacup is stating that no one levels in lower level instances is incorrect.  That is purely based on his experiance on his server.  The reason I state this, is because on my server I noticed alot of people who have alts, or new players in general always get groups to run instances.  If you shout a request to do a certain dungeon 90% of the time depending on your class you will get a group to run something.  However he is also right that some people dont bother, but most people do.  Not everyone cares for the end game content, alot of players like to play many different characters 1-cap multilple times.

All of this negativity is starting to make me avoid this site altogether. I'm not asking that people stop voicing thier opinions, but GD, please balance the complaints with the kudos.

Every company, and every game has posts somewhere about it, both positive and negative in general.  If you are curious about a game, read the review from multiple companies, like IGN, Gamespot etc.. Or buy the game yourself.  As far as the MMORPG community being the most negative...I tend to disagree....every community gamming or not is negative and positive.  I have noticed more problematic communities in FPS games because of people accusing others of hacking and the sort.  Sometimes the community problem can be tagged to a specific server too.

Hello, gamers. I gave the WOW trial a shot a little while ago, and found it OK (but not phenomenal). It may have been because I thought that starting WOW was a lost cause (so I had the whole come-in-with-a-bad-attitude thing). Anyway...

...Honestly, could one legitimately say that it is too late for a WOW NOOB to start playing? I'm talking no alts, no real experience, nothin'. Or is it all cool?

How many of "me" are out there at this point? Should I move on to something newer instead?

I can honestly say, that WoW is one of the most noob friendly games out there.  You can start it at anytime and you would be all set.  There arent as many new players as their used to be, but there is still quite a bit out there. Since the expansions raise the level caps and the gear requirements for certain things, you would star playing at a great time.  If your a fast leveler you could prob get 1-2 70's before the new expansion comes out that raises the cap to 80. I think overall the games ive played out there, I think Blizzard gets what most players want overall, and they also add alot of free content in the game that doesnt require you to pay for it.

If you are new to WOW and like playing on a pvp server check out Cho'gall and look up Saucy Puppet Show, they are a nice friendly guild, that is raiding and they dont mind helping out new players.

lineage is made by ncsoft by the way...and so is Aion

Aion is much bad graphics, lineage II has better graphics. And a bigger worls with raids. Aion is going...

Everyone is allowed their own opinion, IMHO Aion looks great, since they are made by the same company, this is really lost point.
