If Drakfall fails then I'm probably done with the market, I still have my WoW account but I only play that because I have nothing else to play. |

All I have to do is say look at warhammer, look what was originally planned, and see what happened. KOTORO is not going to be a sandbox, it's going to be like WoW so it can get the most amount of possible subs, it will of course have KOTRO influence and roots, but it's going to target the masses, not the SWG refugees that some people are hoping. |

I've tried to explain to a few people that an open pvp game is actually really fun for players who don't enjoy pvp, it adds danger, excitement, and makes being in a guild and grouping that much more important. A lot of PKs travel in small groups or solo. Large guilds focused on PvE and their player cities will be able to stomp most "evil" players because the lack of their size. It's the zerger factioneers that pose a threat to them, when they siege their city and try to take over the area.
There is so much to offer in DFO, but a lot of people have troubles looking over the open pvp system and full loot. I know it sounds scary, but you'll wise up and carry less on you keeping your prescious items safe in the bank. And when someone tries to gank you and you best them or run away you'll be like "Whoa, what a rush!". Freedom is everything, DFO is freedom. |

Why do I need to "calm down" I'm just telling you guys it wont be SWG2 or anything close to it. It'll most likely be a WoW clone with KOTOR roots for the mass gamer. If you can't accept that you're the one who got bashed in the head. |

If open beta hits like WoW's did, I'd say probably 100k people would sign up. Darkfall is a game a lot have heard of and are interested in it. Just the stigma of it being in development for so long follow and not a lot of people register on the forums and actively follow it. |

The guys working on Darkfall are way to busy getting the game tested and ready for launch, they promised this year, so they're running a marathon right now. I think most of us know that, a Q1 2009 release is most likely going to be the case, but with years and years of internal testing who knows, maybe it is more polished then we're expecting?
As for how in depth the crafting will be that is all on the table, none of us have any idea until the NDA isl ifted and people are making videos showing us everything, what you know will happen, the community has done a lot as far as promoting this game. Time will tell, hopefully we get what we're told, or at least a good portion of it. At this point even if the game has flaws and balance issues I can deal with that over the crap flooding into the current market, but only time will tell. |

Just because a game has FFA PvP and supports it does not mean the game has any more focus on PvP then your typical game on the market. They're working hard on having enemies in the game world that are powerful and very interactive, basically fighting a bot in a fps. They might not be as intelligent as a player, but they'll dump spells and I'm sure a lot of us will be killed by the PvE mobs in our first month. The game is a sandbox, it'll support every play style possible, and without specific server(like most games these days) it'll make sure you get players of all play styles on your server. If you PvE, you'll be able to find a PvE guild. If you're a PK, you'll find a PK guild. Anti-pk? RPer? Crafter? Explorer? Anything you want to do, you'll be able to do it and most likely find some people who want to also. That is the great thing about sandbox games. I really hate posting about DFO because I get so pumped I could headbutt a brick wall! On that note, I am a PK/greifer, so if you see.... [Scary Bad Guys] when you look at a character running up to you, I'd run and call for backup! |

A 2008 release? Probably not Q1 2009? Most likely.
They're starting hardware testing, inviting people based on their PC configurations. That is the first step in the beta process, give them 4 or 5 months until open beta, 1 to 2 months of that, most likely through a FP based sub that seems to be the latest flavor of the MMO industry. Then launch.
Have you taken a DFO release date seriously the past few years? No one has unless they're new, it'll come out when it's done but the game is getting close to that stage. |

Lol, all you people who're going on about how PvPers never PvE and blah blah blah make me laugh.
You all have been struck in the head by WoW. Everyone PvEs that is a fact, we're talking about "blubies" people who hide in "safe" zones and avoid player vs player combat at all costs. Of course a game needs PvE, the fucking core of a MMO is it's pve any PvPer will agree with you unless he is a complete WoW fag or retard. Open your eyes for a minute and stop pretending you're some elite group because the PvPers do it.
You pay $15 a month to do what you want PvE, PvP, RP, or idle I don't care... I'll be thinking of ways to kill you if or if not you're protected by guards. If or if not you're a PvPer, and while you kill a boss. That is the great thing about an open FFA enviorment, it caters to every play style as long as the game isn't compete garbage.
To the AoC refrence above, AoC failed because funcom nerfed/buffed/nerfed/buffed/nerfed so many classes, announced a "Greifers get punished" ruleset, turned getting the best gear into farming BGs, game stability, the fact most people had to upgrade their PCs to play it, didn't punish exploiters and fix huge exploits in PvE raiding, and the many many changes they added in. Funcom messed up a game with tons of potential, it had nothing to do with the PvP system. |

I think a lot of us hate $OE because of the pre-cu bullshit, but that doesn't mean every game that comes out by them is garbage. If they're trying to improve the company all the power to them, I'd like to see the market flooded with more games of different play types even if they're shit. The market needs to expand and evolve and in order to do that people need to take chances, better SOE then some company with potential.
The day SOE makes pre-cu servers is the day I'll regain faith, but I wont play another SOE product ever until that happens. |

Raiding instances is NOT what PvE is. From the descriptions Darkfall will have a great PvE system, especially with mob AI being what it is, and having them actually migrate if overhunted, or set up strongholds and start training armies and raiding nearby cities. I like killing large monsters and bosses, and doing quests (QUESTS, NOT KILL TASKS) to move the story along and find out about the world. I also like sacking someones city. There is something for us all.
Also, PvE in general is NOT skillless. WoW PvE might be, but other games have damn challenging content. Be it quests, or the monsters themselves.
The PvE in Darkfall probably wont be the best to ever hit the market, but with the combo of players interfering with you as you do it will make it some of the most challanging at times. |

You don't get it, Darkfall will not have raid dungeons like WoW, the game is open, you enter an instance that has some big bad ogre warlord and the reds will be able to walk through the door into the same place and gank you. The PvE in Darkfall will be open world, so if you down some giant dragon it'll take maybe 30 to 45 minutes after fighting off the gankers and engaging the target.
UO, SWG< and the FFA EQ server are all games you can look at to figure out what DFO will be like. It wont be your typical go into an instance and spend all day to kill 10 bosses, someone will have wiped you by that point.
Pure PvP isn't fun for everyone, and gets boring without something else to do besides it. I'm a PvPer and will be a red in DFO, without PvE content I'll have less people to kill.
No you dont get it... My whole argument was against games like WoW that do that............
I agree man, darkfall wont be that kind of game. The guys making it are targetting another play style. If you like PvP Darkfall most likely will be the game to play until others step out of the WoW shadow. |
