I just subscribed to a wiresless connection for broadband use with Verizon. I had to because I live on a mountain and dial-up is all I would have otherwise. My question is I am allowed 5GB of downloading every month. Does anyone know how much data WOW actually sends to my PC? Not including patches of course, just the regular playing time.

You have nothing to worry about, no mmo has ever transmitted that much in patches (actually no where near it). You will never reach that cap unless your downloading movies, music or applications for your computer. |

I believe it comes down to transmitting the data. I speciffically asked the guy in the Verizon store if WOW counts against my 5GB and he said yes. |

Yes, your computer will transmit data between your computer and the WoW servers. Not sure how close you would come to sedning 5GB though. May wanna try contacting Blizzard technical help - thye may be able to provide more information. |

You're also going to see some lag, data cards won't give you the speeds a fixed line internet connection would, it's nowhere near the same as WLAN. I suggest you do the trial and test it out before you commit to a full subscription. See if one of your friends has the disks and try to download the patches on a fixed line connection to get you started. |

It really depends on how often you play WoW. You can try looking for some freeware to monitor how much you download in a typical session.
I did a quick search and found these That might help you determine your typical download usage. |

As I stated earlier, you will NOT hit that 5GB limit unless your downloading applications, movies. All MMO's that I know of and have played have never made someone reach their limit per month.
I used to have wireless and I also played WoW, SWG and EQ2 and never once ran over my Limit. |

I think you could play WoW few months non-stop before reaching that 5GB downloaded. Unless your ISP charges ridiculous amounts for all data over that 5GB transfered, my recommendation is not to bother counting how much data WoW transfers. But be aware that you may have quite much lag in game if you play WoW with wireless connection, ofc depending on your connection. |

considering most MMos can work over a 56k (and even a 28K) line no problem, at least on normal play, I do not think you would hit the 5GB limit even if you play like 24/7 all the month. But if you want to know the exact amount that WoW will get of that limit, I do not know. Check those freeware programs another user mentioned, they will surely help you determine how much you are losing per day or even per hour. |
