This is the very last thing i will say in this thread..... Hopefully you all know i was joking about Funcom employees getting a raise before. I'm sure no one at Funcom will be getting a raise if they have to charge extra per month. I am going to believe that if Funcom announces they will be charging anymore than $15 a month,it will not be because they want to;but because they HAVE to.Have to maybe because of unbelievable operating costs from new technology (unseen or unused in any other mmorpg to date)they may be using to maintain their servers, code,or maybe outstanding customer service. I just hope you all will support this game, even if it means paying a little more in the end. I honestly feel it could benefit everyone. |

It''s one thing to have a opinion, but enforcing one is unconstitutional. |
Originally posted by Supernerd You say this like Anarchy Online stole people away from Everquest. It was hyped up, new sci-fi mmo. Looked great but didnt kill nothing and in the end does anyone even know what Anarchy Online is. Funcom will fail with this one. It won't kill WoW nor get people to want to pay 19.95 when they can play WoW or whatever there playing now. In order for a game to charge 19.95 it would have to be a WoW killer Period. So stop glorifying this game go do somthing you dont know how to do which is GO OUTSIDE, I bet if you could get your damn snickers delieverd you would pay them. Your going to make me not want to give AoC the 50bucks or 60Bucks since i have a 360. there is only one game right now that can make its fee 19.95 and thats WoW. |

Ftp games such as Guild wars are doing fine, offer a lot of content and have many updates, in game staff etc. They could get away, as could many other games, with charging $5 for a monthly fee and still make a killer profit. Game sales them selves make a lot of the money back of the production cost. Maybe im wrong but 75% of the monthly fee is probably just going back to the companies bank account ready for the next title so that will be even more profit/cost ratio. Sure the servers need running but even if a game only has 10,000 players. even 1$ a month from each player would pay the cost of a server, and a couple staff. Boils down to greed at the end of the day. The western ideal of individualism over community or something of the sort.

I myself haven't really looked into AoC just because that whole level to 20 solo idea annoyed me. "i mean are they seriously having us pay a monthly fee to play an online game alone for the first part? wth???" Anyways i could say this i would be willing to pay more of a monthly fee IF they could merit it.
Considering it has become a standard to have downtimes last longer then expected and nothing for the people who lost time (some people have jobs and cannot always say Ok i'll just play later today. Instead this kills their daily entertainment of gaming that they rightly paid for pushing them 'casual gamers' even more behind the curve) Which has become unreasonably accepted by the community as a whole (no clue why) they should provide some sort of downtime reimbursement. NO i do not mean give you back some money, but you did lose some time so why not give an xp bonus or some kind of in-game financial sum for not being able to play? Who does that hurt really? Another thing would be more reliable and forthcoming communications (This being left in the dark during downtimes with no clue wtf is going on is a load of crap what's the point of having a community manager if they don't do their jobs when it's needed most? Some news is better then no news) Also lower the damn price of the game box for monthly fee games i mean WTH! 50$ for a new game that you will not always have the ability to play whenever you want??? Yes they add nice little booklets and some maps but christ pdf and jpg would give the same affect cheaper. IF you want to charge me for something send a damn sound card or video card with the box that guarantees playability! THIS benefits us both. I would get a new video card and you would have the knowledge of exactly what most the users would be using creating a much easier support situation. Yes i understand that would possibly raise the box price even, but take a hit on it after all you are making money monthly and spending it on cocktails and beamers. Funcom HAS impressed me in the past in Anarchy Online and then they let me down. If any of you remember they had in-game funcom employees that were actors that worked along with the storyline. This was a blast! So use that extra fee to hire more... hell give me a real person employee to hunt down in a dungeon to kill as the "boss" and i'd be jumping at the chance. Not to mention it would also give way to the possibility for completely different experiences for each player if the person playing the "boss" changes their style making for a much better gaming enviroment. Also keeping up with the storyline and progressing it dependent upon what the players actually do in game GREAT STUFF! sad they cut it out :(. These are but a few "REQUIREMENTS" i would say are needed before a game's monthly fee/box price etc.. can merit an increase. Otherwise don't give me some bs basic design change and think because it's the "same shit different day" kind of setup that i will pay more. Give me something truely new that actually COSTS you something to provide more then the 'norm'. Well there's my thoughts who's with me? |

The absolute most I would ever pay for a MMO would be $17. I don't care how good or how crappy the game is, you're not getting $20 from me. Price for a candy bar of any kind down here is only about $1, a 24oz is just a tad over $1.50, you can go to a gas-station and get a 44-64oz for less then $1.50 (Hess 44oz was about $1.30). Also for the bus it's $1.50 or 60c for a student.
Price's aren't going up godly fast dude, steadly yes. A great raise in price of everything in short period of time would make the economy all out of wack. Again, I will never pay $20 for a MMO, not even for WAR. Even though if Blizzard made WoW $20 I bet they would still have at least 7 mill subs |

The price of peace, is eternal vigilance. |
The thing that bugs me the most, not that you pay the initial fee and monthly fee. But the MMOs come out with "expansions" for $30 bucks while your paying a monthly fee. Shouldnt that "special expansion" be included with your monthly fee?

You have to think about it... If the game is doing great and it's a huge hit, you can afford to sell an expansion for around $30.00. On the other hand, if your game blows, you might want to include that little expansion for free just to keep people playing the game. |
