You and Aragon100 should get together in real life. Would make a perfect fit. |

Indeed the patch has made the game so so much more enjoyable and I cant stress it enough.
My rig is just below the recommended specs and its running on Medium settings with shadows off and 4x AA, and is running super smooth and looks so much better than it did 2 days ago before the patch!! So excited for the launch after the patch. They should seriously just roll it out to the OB to show you guys how awesome it is :)
First time ive ever had devs said they've made performance boosts and seriously mean it. Considering ive gone from Low settings to Medium with an FPS boost it says it all. |

No you misread me. It is my opinion that a lot of the AoC community posting about CB are all rosy eyed and what they say isn't a reliable indication of the state of the game. It was probably working for them to begin with and the people that it doesn't work with probably don't play... What isn't opinion is that the open beta doesn't work on my computer out of the box at all. You can say it is my computer but I strongly doubt that my computer is distinctive other then being high end of the food chain. I can also say that of my two friend that tried the beta it did not work for them either and that after I convinced them to download the fileplanet beta they tried it but weren't able to get it running and just went back to wow after deciding AoC was too buggy. I have a computer running windows xp 32 bit sp2, quad core intel, 4gb, 8800gtx. I installed it from scratch maybe 4 weeks ago following my hard disk dying. So it is a clean install with the latest firmware, patches, and drivers. I have tried running AoC with a variety of video drivers with mixed results. My problem is if I install AoC and click the run button it will patch and update fine but then it will crash when it starts loading the video. I have posted a list of hacks you can do to get it working that I've laboriously discovered by reading through game error logs and trying to decypher why it is crashing. I can actually get the game running most of the time but it takes 15-45 minutes messing with it and several reboots till I get it. Not even close to what I'd want to see from a released product. I have 4 buddies I play with frequently. Of these buddies 2 tried the game and think it is hopelessly buggy. They conviced the other 2 to not even bother. I like the game and being a hard core fan am trying to fight through the bugs and make as much noise about it as possible with the hope that funcom can redeem themselves. So it's great that you can get into the game. But there is an unspoken community of people out here who can not. If funcom doesn't fix this then this game will take a big hit at release. Even the GB miracle patch is not working for some people. There are people claiming that after the patch the game is just crashing for them. So did the GB fix anything other then increasing FPS and making pretty graphics? Those are good things but are nothing if you can't actually reliably load and run the game without crashing. For me the performance while not amazing is plenty good for me to enjoy the game. For me all I care about is having the game load up and stay up once it is running. So really I'm jealous that the game runs great for you. But I want it to run great for me and if I don't speak up then it likely never will since most people don't bother to say anything they just walk away...

Is there any official word on this game that states that it is 'thread enabled'? Just because the game will run on a multi-core CPU doesn't mean anything. And just because you think you see activity on both cores and/or they are both at 100% utilization... that doesn't mean anything either. It's just 'load balancing'. Is there a SMP client? If this game is 'thread enabled'... then Core 2 Quad users will see the biggest benefit. Hell, if it is... I'll drop it on my dual socket Xeon box that has a total of 8 cores. We'll see what's going on with the application then.

Ok...I should state...I do have Service Pack 3 for my systems...wonder if that has some fixes? I also downloaded the latest DirectX I am using the Nvidia beta drivers I have render ahead frames at 1 in the Nvidia Control Panel and all settings application controlled... I have my pagefile on a seperate drive I make sure that the Video settings have not changed since I last logged in (this is a known issue where it tries to revert back to Shader 3.0...which causes long loads due to rebuilding the cache) I guess I did put a lot of effort into it..and for some reason have never crashed, and have eliminated all loading issues... Makes me wonder if Funcom only built this OB client for specific hardware (as the only system that does not run well for me is my 3870 ATI system...) I did not mean to attack your post either...if it felt like that..I am sorry... Later |

Originally posted by openedge1 ha I'm not offended just frustrated beyond belief. I want this game to work. I've though about loading sp3 but I'm thinking that might be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. It's only been released for a few days and I figure I'll let it bake a bit before jumping. As to fixing it you have no idea how much effort I've put into it. Hell I even posted a thread on the forums here with a list of thing to do to get AoC working. I'm actually pretty good at getting it working. Now I can usually get it running in 15 minutes or less. I would be faster except none of my fixes work consistently so I have to try several things before I hit the one that works.... 1. remove cache files, try it. 2. reboot try it 3. rebuild db files, try it 4. remove hiden local config files, reboot, try it Usually one of the above will get it working. Oh and sometimes it just runs from double clicking so I try that too. Once I have it running it works pretty well. I can usally run for 2-3 hours before crashing which I can easily cope with and my performance sits at 60 which I believe is capped and thats with pretty high settings. Shader 2.0 or 3.0 don't make much difference both work fine. So I like the game a lot. I just want to scream and hit something preferably someone at funcom to fix the damn thing before the game hits the market. I might be able to get some people to play it but if it is buggy at launch it will kill the game. |

I downloaded the new Nvidia beta drivers (I think they are 175 or somewhere around there) and they boosted my frames pretty well. Another thing I have noticed is a lot of people with the Quad cores are having issues. This may be due to slower clock speeds than on a dual or single core cpu. If the game used dual and quad core cpus correctly the clock speed wouldn't matter as much.
I am kinda just grasping and straws but would rather try to help someone that would like the play the game. edit : here is the link to the beta driver search from Nvidia. Hope they help. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us |

First, thanks so much for trying to help. It's nice to see rather then people just saying it works great for me your system must be broken. I used all the drivers since 169.21. I've found that 169.44 works pretty good. 174.74 would crash always for me and 174.92 (I think that was the one) seemed to work ok but in my series of trying various drivers I ended up with 169.44 that seemed to be working pretty well and I haven't gone back to the latest beta. My issue isn't performance. I actually am ok with the performance of the game. I get like 60fps with the default and can even add in aa 4x without a noticable change in performance. My system is a very strong system and once I'm in the game everythign works fine. The issue for me is the game crashes before I can even get into it. As I've said I've really tried everything and nothing works reliably. I've even been sitting here trying to convince myself to go buy vista 64 and hope that makes things better. It might but then it would probably also break other stuff so I'm kinda sitting here hoping/wanting a fix from funcom rather then reinstalling an OS I'm not really sure I want. |
