Well playing with the release game there was a bunch of new updates today.  After doing the updates I discovered two significant changes.

1. I can now run full screen not in window mode.  That has never worked since open beta.

2. I can load directx 10 and the game runs.

things are really looking like they are improving...  Can't help but be foolishly optimistic.

it's BEEN working, just not enabled.

Updated today, started the game, looked through options. On the slider thing all I can see is DirectX9 (during pvp weekend and open beta I could see directX10 too, even though it didn't work). And yes I am running vista and have a dx10 card. It makes one wonder...

That really doesn't mean anything. You could actually select DX10 in the simpleconfig.exe and for some people the game would actually run, but it just defaulted back to DX9. Until someone actually logs into the game with the retail client and shows us that they are actually running the game in DX10, I personally won't believe it.

yeah, you can launch it with directx 10 selected in the launcher, but once you are in the game it still says dx9.

No its not, they can talk about their experiences up to lvl 13, and the options menu can clearly be opened during those lvls.

There was a DX10 chance in OB simple config.  It did not work.  

Like xcalibur said - last time I looked there is no DX 10 option in the client option - only DX9.  So this statement is false until proven taken from the early access.

In simpleconfig there has been a dx10 option for awhile.  If I selected it prior to this update when I started AoC it would just immediately close.  Also if I ran AoC with dx9 selected in full screen it would give me a black screen.

With this patch both of these things changed.  I can now select dx10 and the game loads.  I can also put it in full screen and it loads.

Since I'm only playing with the prerelease I can only go to the login screen.  Also there is no dx10 option in the main configuration screen only in the simpleconfig.

I'd say this is very encouraging news.  But hey go ahead and call me a fanboi it would really be a first :P

DX10 is not in client yet as far as I know.

The DX10 option has been in simple config very long time.  You were able to log in with DX10 selected there in OB but last patch there brought up the black screen and crash if you had it selected.  Very few encountered that cause the patch autoupdated with DX9 support into the config. 

 

DX10 is not in client yet as far as I know.  

dx10 has been in the simpleconfig for awhile but as I said it never ran for me it would just immediately shut down AoC when you run with it.  For me the black screen problem has always existed in OB and up until yesterday.  I had this problem with both XP and with Vista and a variety of nvidia drivers.  In the beginning of OB the game would also crash whenever I tried to load it.  I do mean 100% of the time. 

So I'm seeing steady improvements. 

- I can load the game without crashing.

- I no longer get the black screen bug.

- I can select dx10 in simple config and when I load the game it no longer just exits but now starts up properly and goes to the login screen.

Does this mean it is running with DX10?  I have no way of knowing that.  What I do know is that it wasn't running in DX10 2 days ago since selecting this option would cause the game to immediately exit.  And that now I can select the option and the game loads.

I'm not going to do anything to prove anything to you because I could care less if you believe me or not.   Who the hell are you that you think anyone needs to prove anything to you?  If you think I'm full of shit making everything up then just say so and move on.  For people that aren't so contrary to want a proof I'm providing some somewhat positive news.  And in a couple days or for people that have the preorder working they will know you are the one who is speaking out of his ass.
