If you believe for a second they put nudity in to be "true to the Conan lore" you're seriously confused. It was done to attract the OMG BOOBIES! crowd. Nudity is natural but the way they're using it, even the way Howard used it, is not. The entire point in the novels and the game was to titillate a jaded public. You'll notice it was incredibly toned down in the De Laurientis movies. The funny part is Funcom was so stupid they didn't know you can't make a mass market game with an M rating and expect parents not to raise hell when little Tommy gets his hands on it. Even after they were told exactly what would happen and swore they wouldn't cave. |

Not exacly. Get The Witcher, it has sex and nude bodies and it is a pretty good mature RPG. Get Salammbo, it has a seductive art style, and it is a pretty good mature adventure. I think in your opinion Age of Conan is like GTA or Postal and it is not, there is a reason for nudity and mature content. If we take your concept about mature/immature you would belive only immature people would go to an exposition to see Klimt´s art. Do you think only immature people would watch Caligula or any Tinto Brass movie? No one is making a fuss about a naked body, only people that think it is immature or imoral are making a fuss.

But really, the 360 version has nothing to do with that, just take a look at GTA ( Im not comparing the pop hiphop expression of gta with Robert E Howard work, but I think you got my point ), the PC market is much more family oriented ( wow, the sims etc ). There is not an official position from Funcom about this issue, some players are noticing some changes in quests and npcs, I think we should wait to be sure about all this issue. I hope funcom doesnt change the mature content, as one of the reasons I play this game is for the original lore, but if they are really doing that, as you said, shame on them. ... |

Ah FunCom, you have risen on the ladder for the title for the category of "Bait and Switch" companies. All you need to do now is make Conan a playable character for all and you will vanquish SOE off its throne for the title..

I couldn't care less either way. But, its not even about the porn. They are removing the mature themed LORE for christsakes! Or, at least, being speculated to. Regardless, its very important that you understand that, in removing said parts of the game, they completely remove themselves from EVERYTHING they said they were about. They told players that they DELIBERATELY kept the mature theme and nature of Conan. They marketed to those players, and got those players to buy the game. By removing it, they are essentially taking away the very last aspect of their game they had left to offer from their originally listed set of things. Honestly...will you guys not stand up for anything? Has the MMO market really desensitized you so much...that you totally accept, not only failing to provide even HALF of what was promised, but also removing many of the things they DID provide? The only reason I saw for any player to remain here was because they really liked the Conan lore and mature theme (which was showcased with their graphic engine). In case you didn't know....what is being discussed here is the fact they could be removing that to make way for the "new players" they plan on getting. I've heard THIS before...and it cost that company 200-300K players as a result. Its too late to market to a younger crowd, or even a different crowd. They have already spent too long hyping the game as it was....changing things is gonna sink em. I am with you! This is exaclty what I have tried to get across to people. But like others, I have been called a troll and had any critisism made about the game turned into one of the following responses... "well if (insert reason here) is the only reason you played, then gtfo!" "go back to WoW kiddie!" we all have something in common here. we enjoy the hobby and fun of MMO games. when did that common bond turn into L2P, nub, WoW kiddie, whine, gtfo, qft, noob, sauce, nublet, rofl, roflcoptor, pwn own, nubz, roxxorz, suxxorz? Man I miss the days when i first started playing EQ. if this is what the player base and fan base had been like at that time, I would never have gotten involved. the games have improved, but the people involved have gone wayyyy downhill imo.

Sorry, but if you make a videogame and the gore and tits are one of your main selling points, you are going to attract and inmature community. So then, that content should be rated "Inmature" to avoid a contradiction. |
