One of the *greatest* joys in any MMO is showing off your hot new rare drop in the village.  This sets you apart from other players and makes you feel good.  If clothing and armor sets in TCOS serve little purpose other than to cosmetically set you apart from your peers, then WTF exactly is the point?

Seeing someone walk by you in difficult to obtain endgame gear is a rush... you want to get to that level (maybe), or obtain that gear yourself.  Vice-Versa as well.. walking around in sick endgame gear makes you feel good.

You do realise admitting something like this makes you a really sad person? Some...toon walking by in a computer game with gear that shouts "this dude grinded 5 months to get these!" and "the person wearing these has no real life!" gives you a...rush?

Really sad person?  Quite the contrary... I have a great job in downtown LA (in game and web-application design), I have a beautiful girlfriend, and my guild is 2nd in progression on a 1st generation WoW server.  I have been playing MMO's since 1997 (UO Beta), and I love the raiding dynamic (having raided through EQ1).  Gear is important.  Looks are important.  Sure it's also fun to play, RP, craft, explore, whatever - but for me, I want my character to look cool, and I want to WORK for it.  I want my appearance in-game to reflect my accomplishments...  and for the record, I'm really sick of uneducated WoW/EQ noobs just brushing that off as "this dude grinded 5 months to get these"... as you stated above.  It isnt a GRIND.  It is teamwork, dedication, devising strategies, and exploring new game mechanics.  Taking down Cthun with 39 of my friends was an ENORMOUS accomplishment that required a tight bond with my teammates and lots of planning... It wasnt hitting boars in Elwynn Forest repeatedly.  A game that can provide that kind of challenge with equally impressive rewards is a game I enjoy.  That isnt to say that other should feel the same way. 

I raid 5 nights a week.  I also make a great living and have a beautiful family that I love.  I have a fantastic and rewarding life and my game-life in WoW is equally as rewarding.  Your above statement is completely unfounded and furthermore, uneducated.  Learn about the games you are speaking about before you take a hard accusatory stance.

You like raiding, nuff said. This game won't be for you. You probably like rap music and smoke too.

   Why question a game that is trying to break the mold of what other games have been doing since mmorpgs started? The biggest reason I have such hopes for this game is their attempt to stray from the norm. Take a game like LOTRO, its just a little different version of WoW. If I wanted to stay playing warcraft, I wouldnt have quit playing in the first place. So even if the game ends up sucking, I still give serious props to CoS for doing their own thing
