Cynical? Me? Never.

Is permadeath still going to be a feature? I haven't heard anything about that in quite some time. Thanks.

The devs haven't ever talked about permadeath. It's not going to be in the game.

Permadeath will not be a part of TCoS.  Instead, when a character dies they will be revived at a specific point on the map  (think of running your ghost back to one of those spots in WoW to be revived).  You will not have to recover a body, but getting back to the place you were before you died, now that's a different story.

In the title you mentioned henchmen....

Cynical? Me? Never.

When the game was in early development they said that you would have a main toon that was harder to level, would be more powerful, but would permadie.

They said the other toons you played would be called henchmen, would be weaker, easier to level, and would not die.

I can't believe no one remembers that. There were many threads about it a couple of years ago.

Noone remembers that because it's your memory that is faulty.
This is the earliest post that elaborates on death penalties.

Quote:
MMORPG.com: Last month it was mentioned on The Chronicles of Spellborn forum's that you will be handling the death penalty "from a different angle". Could you elaborate more on this?

Barry Hoffman: We do not feel the need to hand out a penalty when your character dies. We’d rather give a bonus to a playercharacter for not dying for an extensive amount of time while playing the game. Of course a player standing around idle will not be granted such a bonus.

hmm, somewhere in a dark corner of my mind I remember of such a discussion. I cannot say, about which game it was though.

The was not TCOS, but The Chronicle, that should have been part of the MMO Center. You remember, the devs that said they wanted to put out a new MMO every half year or so? And that died some time ago (together with The Chronicle). I think they are now developing a game called Africa, but I haven´t heard anything about this for quite some while.

You must be confusing TCoS with some other game. Permadeath never was planned or even considered.

Ask a question and you are stupid for 30 seconds, never ask and you are stupid for life.

Ah, I remember The Chronicle...devs shut it down I believe, I think if memory is right it was a scam like Mourning was. Might be wrong though, but I thought I remembered reading something about that...but anyways, that mmorpg was said to have perma death

So I think you got the two mixed up. Since the names are pretty similar.

Ummm, yes they can.  A great many text muds had both levels and perma-death.  Diablo II hardcore mode has perma-death and certainly has levels.  The two are not related to one another in any way.

Please put down the pipe.

Having said that, TCoS won't have perma-death.  To pull it off, the game has to be designed with that in mind from day 1, and this one hasn't been.

Henchmen, that's another topic, and one that would be interesting to see more about.
