I watched this video http://trailer.onlinewelten.com/videos,id3293,chronicles_spellborn_gdc_praesentation.html today and wasn't very impressed. I'm still confused what this games big point is. Since you don't gain anything after hitting last level what is the end game? Probaply PVP. Overall I feel this game is too simplified and concentrating too much on combat. Also any problems with lag will totally destroy this game. Hopefully there is open beta to allow skeptic people like me to try it. |

Not a retired MMORPG.com mod |
No crafting, no items with stats just a way to slightly enhance some items, lots of instanced dungeons and some instanced quests as well, most experience comes from questing; Sounds pretty simple to me. |

Originally posted by tiboristo Umm, I hope by crafting you don't mean system where you kill mob and then refit item. Because it's not crafting really (you can't evolve in that). Also since these items don't offer anything except visual change they aren't really useful (unless you apply "I Look more queer than Clay Aiken"-competition). Can you tell what different professions there is? |

The big point of the game is the lore and the atmosphere, the rich questing and story-lines, next to a new combat system. Dress to impress is not too important to me, but seems to be a selling point too. Hopefully, this gives some direction to what to expect of this game. BTW, not a very good video. |

The big point of the game is story and exploration. Its not your standard raid till you drop MMO. Its not about spending 2-4 hours in a raid dungeon hoping that the one piece of uber gear drops. Its about discovering the story of what happened to the world and where the present will lead. The game uses a new combat system based more on that of a FPS than the normal 'Auto A and Pray' with a few recharge abilities in between. Its also different from AoC's action button masher style combat. As for the gear, its not the standard stat based fare. The point behind it is they want player skill to be the reason you succede in combat, not hidden dice roll modifiers. It also allows for PvP to be more about player skill like in TF2 than player stats as in WoW where if your not wearing the best gear, you wont stand a chance. Lag shouldnt be too much of an issue. So long as you had your target in your crosshair as you hit your attack, it should hit. I have a feeling it would depend more on the players PC/Graphics ability than it would on connection. So yes, the game seems simplified as far as end game raid/reward goes, but its a bit more complex in the player skill/combat/pvp aspect. Your best bet would be Open Beta or wait till a trial hits the net. |

"What lies hidden, must be found." - I'm guessing it will be up to us to discover the hidden things like new shards, items, spells, bosses, etc. and that seems to me like a very open and free endgame. |

Want Darkfall now! |
How can people complain TCoS seems simple? WoW have alredy shown you dont need endgame or crafting, and a MMO can still work. And TCoS IS alot more complicated then WoW. |

Fyerwall how long do you think that it takes average player to play thru whole game if it's all about exploration and story, not long. After that you have to wait until new content comes I assume you haven't played much online games since you don't feel that lag is big thing, it is. In general more the game needs quick reactions more vunerable it is to lag(naturally). For example in WoW, common melee tactic is to run around player so he isn't facing you when spell is casted, counter this run around effect is really hard on heavy lag. The combat sounds intresting but it's really hard to tell before can get to test it. BTW since most fans are telling me how deep and rich the lore is, can someone tell me which book or material is the lore based? |

Originally posted by SasamiActually I have played almost every online game from FPS to MMO since the launch of UO. Also as I stated combat is based on if you hit your attack while your target is in your crosshair. If you hit your attack while the target is in your recticle, it will hit them (so long as its not a ranged attack, which will allow for an easier dodge) As for WoW PVP, the hit is based on the end of the spell cast, which is why lag works more against you. There is a difference between the 2 combat systems. And as I said, Lag shouldn't be too much of an issue, not a non issue. Graphical/system lag is where I see most people having an issue. For the time for an average gamer to play through all the content? It all depends upon the game. In a game like WoW its easy to burn through exploration and story in no time because the game world is small, on rails with a very simple, shallow story. The game focuses on a quest for gear, with lore and exploration being a side note. Spellborn is trying for the opposite, focusing more on lore and exploration with gear being a side note.
As for the lore, Its not based on any books/movies/shows/etc. Its an all inhouse creation, an original IP. |

I heard, that they deferred the releasedate so often, because of lagprobs+fightsystem. Especially for PvP its pretty annoying. I guess everybody has seen such guys in FPS or even in MMORPGs who lag as hell. In one second they are standing right in front of you, next second 10 mtrs. behind you. Imho its much harder to aim at someone like this, than at someone with good ping. |
