Hey faction pvp didnt work for WOW why would it work for this game? 90% of serius pvpers play horde, the same will hold true in warhammer. Most players that r in to pvp will play chaos/darkelves, so after getting there butts kicked for a month or 2 everyone else who wants to pvp will join the bad guys, leaving us with another game with crappy pvp. Tell me if im wrong and why please.

Ever heard of a lil game called Dark Age of Camelot? Mythic are faction PvP MASTERS. They've had plenty of experience with underpopulation. Most likely, the realms that are underpopulated will have bonuses to loot, exp, damage, and health (any combination of these). In scenarios I'm pretty sure they will have powerful NPC placeholders if one side has less people than the other. And lastly, this game is NOT WoW. Evil is attractive, sure, but many people who will play are playing for the lore, and I bet alot of them like Order. And whose to say they won't become "serious" PvPers?

The wrong part is assuming this game is WoW. WoW was never originally intended to be a pvp game. They tacked it on 6 months prior to launch due to all the demands from the beta testers. WAR has been built from the ground up as a RvR game. I don't want to violate the NDA, so if you really want to know go look up all the tons of information they have released about the game thus far.

Cheers!

Actually, Mythic has some plans for population balance in the works.   So it's not like they're ignorant to the fact that things can get imbalanced.  That may be something they'll be testing down the road once everything else is in top shape.

Even if that were to be true. The system itself will be far better than that of Wow.  Does wow even have a system? I play so i do know the answer. The answer is quite simply , no. The pvp in wow was an afterthought that was thrown together as the game has progressed. Pvp that has no bearing on your servers world is pretty much meaningless.  ...IMO of course

In War they will have so much more than just picking up your next piece of gear. But dont take my word for it ...visit the site and checkout the guild and the rvr podcast. they are easy to find.

Yay peaceful WAR chat , thank god that other game released:) Anyways yes it will work fine. WOW is a bad attempt at faction warfare. There is too much time and money going into this game to make it just another , as so many people are saying"WOW clone". Don t worry :)

Actually I think WoW was originally intended to have PvP more heavily integrated into it. It was when they put two former EQ raid leaders in charge that the development changed into making the game a massive PvE fest, and the PvP aspect was pretty much dropped. While they did pick it up again around a year after release (honor system, later followed by Warsong Gulch), the PvP content was always extremely limited in comparison to PvE, and very poorly implemented (completely nonfunctional world-PvP, arenas which go directly against the core of WoW's PvP, being larger Faction vs Faction battles, taking over the PvP scene).

Actually, during the first stages of WoW it was *purely* intended as a PvE only game.

I remember checking the site out when I was still playing Daoc and was disappointed by that and didn't look back in ages.

Why So Serious?

The Raid focus didn't come in until long after launch.  The EQ1 raid guys weren't working for Blizzard pre launch.     There was never a pvp focus in WoW...though I think it would of been a slightly better game if it had been a competive faction based game instead of a Gear Grind.

PvP in WoW was purely an after thought ... it took a while but the moment they did put in battlegrounds it killed wha tlittle Open PVP there was.  Nothing was ever optimized for sieging / zerging on a city..and still isn't.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

I played EQ2 over Wow so I don't recall the opening days of  WoW.  But, IIRC, even before launch I thought it was suggested that players would be able to sack enemy cities and take them over.  Anyone recall the history of that?....

That's true actually...

And that's why the Guild Wars people left to make their own game. World of WARcraft was to have meaningful world PvP similar to what WAR is promising now. Just look at the way older zones are configured with strategic choke points, towns etc.. Not to mention (invisibly) zoned capitals to reduce  congestion and racial NPC bosses that are obviously designed to be taken down.

However the EQ creeps took over and turned World of WARcraft into World of RAIDcraft which soon evolved into World of GRINDcraft that we all love so much.

It is obvious that this group has been trying to move WoW as far away as possible from the original design. TBC is a good example - 2 factions united against a common enemy?!? Meh... In WoW as it is now the factions only get in the way - it would work much smoother and more economic without factions at all. And that is in a game that is called World of WARcraft which is based on a RTS... Who are they trying to scam by claiming that it was always to be a "journey"  while it is completely obvious that the original design was all about war.. Meh.

and just think about how much better the game would have been if everything went to plan... but it didn't and now we have WAR
............and the world will be at peace  (ahahaha yeah right)

WAAAGH!

Personally, I prefer faction based PVP. It gives more sense of purpose to the fights. In WOW for example, you have a whole back story as two why the two sides are battling each other and it helps draw players into the game. I think the same will be true for WAR.

I'm sure some players will disagree, but I think having faction based PVP is important to drawing people into the story of the game, where FFA PVP seems kinda empty. I mean if you can just go around attacking any player fro no specific reason, I think it will grow old quick.
