Why So Serious?

I know what your trying to get at OP but maybe you need to study Warhammer lore before getting all sad n pissed n crap.   Because if there are any pet caster classes in a table top game I've not seen them..My lore isn't complete but...most magic casters are incredibly powerful they don't need a pet to protect them..thats the whole point of a GROUP / RvR Game....to work as a team..Casters with pets are more likely to run out there blasting people in the face while using their pet to protect them...squishy characters like the Squig Herder actually NEED their pet.   Casters especially powerful ones like in Warhammer Lore...don't need Pets.  A good sturdy smart Player is better than a pet for a PvP caster.

Warhammer lore ... bah.

"Arcane Lore - Master's Voice.

Description.  You command one animal within 24 yards (12 squares) to do your bidding unless it makes a successful Will Power Test.  On it's next turn, you decide what actions the animal will take and it will do as you command."

-p. 150 in Pramas, C. (2005) Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.  Nottingham, United Kingdom: BL Publishing

Pets (both caster and skill based) are absolutely part of Warhammer fantasy lore, they could add them if they wanted to.  Pretty obviously they just don't really want to.

Who's bright idea was it to use squig hearders, anyway?  I would far rather have had a black orc with a variety of wolves to use.

And no, halflings don't count as Dwarf pets.  Just because one side has something, does *not* mean the other should have it too.  As long as I can remember, the armies in Warhammer fantasy have been horribly unbalanced anyway, so why not carry that into the game too?  After all, no-one forces you to field an all-halfling army, you do it because it's fun.  And they have hot-pots (or at least, they used to).

Oh, and Chaos always used to get the extra tricks for free to make them way better than anyone else.  Not sure if that's changed, but they were for at least a while "the favored ones"

I think 1 of 12 distinct classes being a pet based class on each side is a perfect amount of pet classes. I don't know how anyone could construe this as Mythic not really wanting pet classes... and given the overall race-lore they had to work with I think they made pretty solid choices.

Funny - there are about 100+ threads talking about how much the lore has been bent just to allow the second pet class... assuming it is the WHITE LION.

@OP - melee DPS may not be your thing, but I would withhold your overall pet-class judgement, as most everyone watching this game is very intrigued at how unique a melee DPS pet class will be, and the mechanics of it should be quite innovative.

If I was person who had played necro in EQ, and warlock in Wow, I too would be a bit miffed that there is no caster/pet. But one of the other points to remember is mythic is shooting for some class inter-dependency here.. warlocks/hunters are great for go off and solo.. but they won't attract the same dynamic as a Chosen guarding a Magus etc..

I personally am always drawn to the ranged spellcaster... luckily for me sorceress fits my play style to an absolute T.  and the goblin shammies, IMO are the coolest looking class in the game.

they're going by the table top though honestly do casters need pets? NO god..they're more than power enough...personally if they give casters a pet I'll be honestly pissed they're powerful enough already and by giving them a pet they'll just do whatever the hell they want instead of working as a group which is how the game is designed.   Casters with pets = weak ass spell casters that need help.

As mentioned, each Realm will have a pet-based career. For Destruction it's the Squig Herder, for Order the pet career is the last unannounced career in the game, which happens to reside in the High Elf army. Most likely it'll be a White Lion, based on the fact that it's a melee DPS career, and White Lions lorewise do tame and train white lion cubs occasionally. The biggest hint being the poster of a White Lion with a lion pet fighting a Witch Elf, they had on the Warhammer Online stand at a game event.

Be thankful that you have DAOC to occupy the remainder of your mmo life with it's large selection of pet classes.  You know what WAR has, so either accept it or move on.

Your post contributed nothing , was retaliatory and defensive to absolutely nothing, and was on the whole pointless. Thanks for that.

Your thread doesn't contribute much imo.  The game is based on WH lore and we all know who gets to say what is lore for  WAR.  If GW doesn't want the number of pet classes that you think is the correct number for this game, there isn't much you are going to do about it.  You want to discuss pet classes, ok.

What approach do you think should be taken to get GW to assert onto the devs the importance you feel towards more pet classes?  A letter writing campaign?

I wouldnt mind seeing one added. After all, more options means more freedom to choose. Nothing wrong with that.

I think it's great that they don't have a caster class with pets. I see it as one more way for them to be different than every other cookie-cutter mmo. Plus, it steers people to try different types of classes, which is always a good thing.
