More so than was previously discussed and was outlined in a recent Massively article.  The Massively article had me concerned because it seemed like the whole City would be instanced.  But apparently, that's not the case now.

NOTE:  This is a LONG video (about  40 minutes)


Fast forward to 21:00 and 36:37 in the video. Josh talks about how there's going to be strategic points spread throughout the city: A, B, C, D, E, and F. He talks about how guilds will have to get together in alliances and act as a Faction to take the city. Basically, the Alliance will strategically have one guild take point A, another B, another C, and so on. There's hope for City Sieging yet!

I'm just happy you won't have to be a hardcore guild to help out. You won't feel like what you've accomplished is worthless to the overall cause.

This sounds great!

IMO, the make or break point for WAR is whether they'll be able to really pull off the strategic (or realm) component of their RvR system. The worst that could happen is that WAR turns out to be a series of isolated brawls that have no impact on each other and that's why I'm still somewhat skeptical of this whole instanced scenarios bit.

We'll see... If the city siege really involves a global metagame that requires the whole realm to work together and co-ordinate then it really is a huge positive step for the game and a definitive point of distinction at a very fundamental level.
