To me it shows Mythic has a backbone and makes me want to play even more. I say woot for Mythic! I am sick of devs kissing the whiny minorities' butts.

I would like to point out (as the one who made the drive through comment) that I was in no way comparing anything to the fast food industry, but rather the idea of drive throughs and conveniance.

Either they give you the information or you find it yourself. Either way your going to get what you need.

Finding an unofficial site with all the updates you will need and adding it to your internet "bookmark" list takes exactly 1 years, 6 months, 4 weeks, 2 days and 9 hours. It's just a fact. Haha, no I'm just messing around making jokes on others expenses right now :) But I still find it funny they make it sound so hard

That's great. So it would be no extra effort on Mythic's part to put them all on an official forum, then. It would just be one extra place for them to list those issues, after all. What's the big deal?

2 so what you're saying here is that new players are too dumb to work out something like the herald.  I and many others didn't have a problem working it out for DAoC and we were new players at that point.

What I'm saying isn't that people are idiots. I'm saying that people, if they're paying full retail and a monthly fee in order to play your game, expect a certain level of service in return, and they like knowing that the devs are at least pretending to give a damn about how they feel by offering them a place to go and talk about their issues on the company dime.

3 Official forums are a two edged sword.  Yes as you say it gives a place for everyone to find dev posts etc etc.  It also gives a place for devs and mods to feed bullshit to the masses ( just about every SoE game forum ) but most of all it gives those people who would rather spend time trolling a forum rather than play the game somewhere to do it.  To be honest I think we are better off without one.

I heard the very same arguments before Vanguard went live, and that didn't exactly work out the way that the folks arguing against an offiicial forum said it would.

Also, there was no shortage of bullshit coming out of Brad McQuaid's mouth about the game, and he didn't need official forums to do it, either. Bullshit will happen no matter where it's posted only if the dev posting feels they have nothing to lose. What do they have to lose on a fansite? There's no accountability for them there, so they have even less incentive to shoot straight with players. At least on their own site, they'd be speaking on the equivalent of company letterhead, which would make them think very carefully about what they say and how they say it.

Want to cut down on trolls? Simple-- restrict posting access to the forums to people with active paying accounts, and hire mods that aren't afraid to lower the banhammer if needed. Problem solved. Of course, fans of the game will then refer to any negative post as trolling, but at the very least, everyone involved would have an active account and would be on a level playing field in that regard.

If you went out and bought a brand new car and you had problems with it, would you rather go to a bunch of fansites for that car to get an answer for your issues, or would you rather talk to the manufacturer directly, and have them take a look at your car to see what the problem is, then fix it?

Sure, it's not hard to bookmark a bunch of sites, but would you really trust a car company that told you to Google the answer for why your new car keeps having problems, or would you trust the one that takes the time to personally talk to you and deal with your issues in order to resolve them?

It's about treating your customers in a professional manner. It's taking the easy way out to expect other customers to pick up the slack for you instead of you doing your own job of offering support and help for your product.

Bad comparison, cars don't get regular upgrades, free patches, free content updates, money back if you the servers are laggy,  you don't have thousands of people in your car and it is a hell of a lot cheaper to buy a new mmo compared to a new car. I've never been to a Chevy forum in my life and they never told me at the dealership to visit the official forum.

/end the joke that you are going to take very seriously.

Umm... I'd talk to the manufacturer ofc. And WAR won't grant the oppertunity to do that you say? Are the devs lying to us stating that you will be able to explain your issues to them?

ROFL Mythic never told me to google the answers some people on this thread did :)

How do you know this? Please link any thread where the developers states that they will not deal with any issues expressed by their community.

I will copy/paste some text from WHA from Mbj:

"And please remember, all we're talking about is an "official forum" not an official place to get news, updates, etc. We're going to be doing that of course just as we did with DAoC but even better. So, between our Herald system and places like WHA/IGN/etc., I think we are going to not only reach our audience but deliver what the vast majority of players want and need."

So, if it's lies or not it turns out to see. But what gives you the idea already that we're being lied to? And if it all turns out bad anyway, it will be a matter wether they will fix it or not. If they don't, well it's their loss.

While you might think it's cute to patronize people who disagree with you, that kind of fanboy elitism can be dangeous. It came back to bite the Vanguard fanboys in the ass when that game came out, and it can happen again for any of the other games on the horizon, including WAR.

Some of us haven't slavishly devoted our lives to WAR for the past several years. What you might consider a dead horse issue will always be new to someone else. Remember that. And don't let your game follow the same pattern that Vanguard did, with its elitist and most hardcore fanboys getting a rude awakening when the game went live and it didn't become the WoW-killer it had been hyped up to be. The schadenfreude that people had against the hardcore fanboys for VG was palpable, and because of the hubris they displayed.

Honestly, I'd like to see WAR do well. More games and more choices for the consumer are a good thing. But one of the blind spots of any game is the fans. Don't become like the uber hardcore VG guys, with the elitism they constantly displayed towards others. That's a dangerous road for any game.
