they should just rename it to open paid beta or some other stuff, for sure it's not "open beta" per se, and actually quite misleading.

There is a war going on for your mind.

For sure it's not an, 'Open Beta' per se?

What the hell does that even mean?

Open Beta is at it's core just a phase of Beta where information is available to the general public without the protection of a NDA.  Anything beyond that is purely up to the developer and publisher's discression.

Cover girl cutouts throw pop-ups ads infecting victims with silicone shrapnel. Postproduction debutants pursue you in Nascar chariots. They construct ransom letters from biblical passages and bleed mascara into the holy waters of minds. They flash logos and blast ghettos; their embroidered neckties say stop snitching. They shout at you, 'pay no attention to the man behind the barred curtain nor the craters beneath the draped flag, those hoods are there for your protection.’

You are the unfortunate muppet I'm going to use as an example but there are many more in this post.

Do you get a chance to have a "free" play of an xbox, ps3, ds game before you buy it? No is the answer. So why do people think they should with an mmo? You do what all other gamers have to do, buy it. If you dont like it, put it at the back of the cupboard with the rest of the games you buy and stop playing after a couple of weeks.

Some people need reminding of the real world again.

That's assinine.  I can walk into any Best Buy/Toys R Us/etc. and try out every console and handheld available.  I can rent an entire system and games from Blockbuster for a few bucks to try it out.  You can't do those things with an MMO, and MMO developers who think that they can get away with selling a $50 game that requires a monthly subscription to use without providing some kind of free trial can go play in traffic, ESPECIALLY after Failcom's debacle with that turd called AoC.

No free trial (or in the case of WAR, super cheap beta access) = no sale.

The "open" in Open Beta has nothing to do with free access or even guaranteed access to all comers.  It only means that testers are not bound by an NDA or some other kind of restriction.  As soon as you get this through your head, you'll stop looking silly.

While this is slightly off topic, I'll post my question.

I got a beta key, signed up on the warhammer site, downloaded the client, installed it and now I can't log in.

I can't seem to find the beta help website.

I am wondering if my beta isn't active until the 7th.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

You won't be able to log in until they activate the open beta accounts.  Right now if you try to log in it will open the patcher window for a moment and then kick you back to the login prompt.  This is normal.

o information is open lewl, I thought open beta means the game is open for anyone to test, play it, not only the information, o wait apparently it is open beta as long as you get selected or  pre-order lewl. I'm hugry gonna grab me  a 99 cent burger since its open burger day at mcdonalds.

Another thing that mixes things up is that eastern MMOs use the term Open Beta but it is really more like their launch and everyone can play but they are free MMOs so it doesn't really matter.

Open and closed are terms about the information being released. Everyone has the right to feel as they want and for people that need to try a game before they by it, they can wait and see their friend login and check it out that way.

Open is still allowing a finite amount of players on their servers. You just can get a definite entry if you preorder but there will be a lot of folks that didn't need to pay for anything.

There is a war going on for your mind.

I posted several valid points, they seem to have been lost on you I'm afraid.

The reason I was speculating how people like you might sound in real life is simply put.  Because I had to read through your post thee or four times to decipher what exactly you had said.  To be quite honest, it's still a bit hazy.

So, does anyone have any insight?  I am genuinely curious now, if anyone happens to know a person like Jester in real life.

While I agree that "open" beta should be, well, open, this is certainly nothing new.

Hardly any MMO has a truly open beta any more, pretending War is the only one is simply just pretending.

Fileplanet subscriber/pre-order exclusives are pretty common.
