You wait till Sunday to all open Beta players to patch?  Patching could have been done earlier.   Then you don't have enough bandwith that it takes people 8 hours to patch a 189MB patch?  People have work/school tomorrow here in NA and Sunday will be over by the time this patch is done.... Seems like poor planning if you ask me.  I hear players speak highly about Mythic but my first impressions are this is going to be another "C" mmo being handled with a limited budget.  C'mon.... 8 hours to download 189MB.... you must be kidding me....

I don't recall WoW's 2 stress tests being much better with server problems and d/l patches.  The question will be whether Mythic fixes things up like Bliz did prior to launch.

Open beta is still beta...

I'm talking about Mythic; not Blizzard.  I could care less about WoW at this moment in time and comparing this to something that happened 4-5 yeas ago implies you don't expect improvement.  I hope we have come a long ways since WoW's launch and have learned a thing or two since then.

It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a viking to raze a village!

If nothing else, this just makes Mythic look that much worse.  WoW was several years ago, and Mythic had the opportunity to learn from other's mistakes.

The OP hit the problem I had with all this ever since I've been waiting for the Open Beta to start... You do not require people to log in BEFORE patching! Or if you do, run a check to at least see if the account is signed up for whichever stage of beta before accessing it, but please, do not wait until the day that stage begins to do all the patching. Especially if we're looking at a beta ticker claiming to have 882,000+ applicants, assuming most of which weren't in closed/preview and are actually trying to get in now. It's just not smart for your servers and inconvenient for the testers.

But as some have been quick to point out, we certainly are "testing" their patcher server, at any rate. I mean, this is just fixing a couple of issues addressed over the preview weekends I think, imagine what's going to happen once we have the first major update for the live product after word of mouth gets out and that subscription number launches over one million players. I hope they have things adjusted a lot better then.

I hate to mention That Game Which Should Not Be Named more than necessary, but maybe they should take a note from that and the torrent that EA put out for WAR closed beta and try to make the patcher peer to peer? I don't fully understand the technology behind it, but I imagine it would help take a huge load off the patching servers if everyone downloads off each other.

I was downloading from FP @ 700k then down to 120k then I checked again and I'm back in line waiting 300+ minutes. I had already gotten 32% downloaded. Seems like FP is trying to get some people to pay and skip the lines.

Ugh, yeah, I had that same issue. I got to 92% on that download before it stopped working for me altogether. I got so tired of waiting in line just for the download to give up and make me wait in line more that I found a torrent and got it off that. Hate FP so much.

Hopefully the patcher's bandwidth will be cleared out a bit by the time you're done with that, if you want to look at it that way.

They probably think that Open Beta is for stress test - and when they find bug/troubles, they patching. That's the main purpose of Open Betas - STRESS TEST SERVERS/CONNECTION/REGISTRATION etc.

In-game: Toxilium

So, is the patcher server seperate from the game servers? I patched on Friday for the Preview Weekend +. If the game/patch servers are seperate, thank god I patched earlier.

They are also stress testing, and I'm sure they don't want everyone just piling in to the servers at the same time, not to mention overrunning the newbie areas. I'm fairly certain they know how well that test would do...

Welcome to beta.

I still don't see why they aren't using a psuedo-torrent patcher instead of a direct 2 server patcher.  I mean you can have the patch server act as a seed.  Cause clogging it with several hundred thousand people is not good.  It does do one thing though, it trickles people onto the live server so you don't have thousands in character creation at once.
