So the Runescape High Detail (Hardware accelerated) full screen version is playable by members at the moment and will be available to free members some time soon.

Would this make anyone give Runescape a second look?

It depends alot of people hated runescape because of the low grafixs so they might want to check it out again but a majority of the people who don't like runescape was because of the repetiveness of the game so they will probally still steer clear.

Nope.  It doesn't change their community.

most people(here) will hate runescape even if it had photorealistic graphics and only needed 128 MB or RAM and no video card.   That's just how bad the community is.

1)  Still looks pretty bad, IMO  - I know it's designed to run in browsers on low-end machines AND graphics don't necessarily make the game, but I wouldn't ever play this just from watching game play videos.

2) It's going to cost more for new members or returning members - I can't believe people already pay at least $5/month for t his, much less more...

Trust me, we don't hate the game for its graphics....

Our opinion really has nothing to  do with the community since we actually don't play the game.  The comunity is actually filled with 10 year olds, not us.

It's community is what puts me off to.  I've never seen an MMO where so many people talk so much pointless and often offensive crap for so long.  You never get anything done thats not solo-able.

That is one thing I don't get about this game. All the games I play with little or no  chat filter do not have the spam, offensive language, flaming and immature behavior that has flooded the runescape community, and it has a very strict  chat filter. I think it has more to do with the catering of Jagex to the kiddos, even though their game states that you must be 13+ years to play it, they constantly target children much younger with their content and updates. Though in past years I had no problem finding mature players to  do group activities with almost all of those quit with the updates last fall. I think that after the poor customer service and choices Jagex  has made and continues to make  that it is just going to get worse for the community. Mature players expect customer service, they enjoy risks and want a challenge in the games they play, and in runescapes current state it just isn't offering any of those things.

I agree. I mean come on, a 3k tade limit is obviously so little 8 year olds don't complain to jagex that they got scammed. And funorb? The name itself sounds a bit like something for 8-10 years. And the games on it aren't much better. There's a game were basiclly all its about is a blob that has to avoid falling. And even on funorb they're changing things so that its safe. There way more things that I'm not writing about that have turned one of the best MMO's into a daycare. 

PS. I know 4th graders that play runescape.

Graphics doesn't make a game. Gamplay makes a game. Most people stopped because freedom got cut down in a few updates. People who liked risks every time they went into the wilderness of being ambushed and having the reward of killing them all now get ghosts that come out after an hour in the wilderness. Pretty exciting deal right!   why get adventure and excitement when you can walk all across the wilderness waiting for a dumb ghost to come out.
 

Jagex said they were working on a new MMO using similar tech. but aimed for an older demographic. /shrug

First of all everybody here has a right to say what they think of the game. Second, people who didn't like the game did play different things, but that doesn't  mean that they have to walk away quietly. Most players dedicated a lot of time and money just for them to walk away quiety, if you don't understand that then you haven't paid much time or money to the game. Third,  nobody really cares about graphics or that they are java, graphics are graphics, people care about gameplay. Fourth, the ex-players that post here normally were fully leveled up, some in more than one account. So what do you say now?

Don't know if that would be worth trying. Maybye just to try it out, but I hope they don't make the same mistakes.
