Polorization linked to them in another thread about the naming thing at which point I became hypnotized by the amount of idiocy that could actually be found there. Even if this game does actually launch it will fail simply because of the people who will play it lol Darkfall was built to cater to the lowest common denominator |

This is the way the Darkfall ends Not with a beta but a whimper. |
The sad thing is that there are still even after all these years many dedicated mature and constructive members on Darkfall’s official forums if you are willing to spend the time looking for them that is. There’s also a significantly critical or skeptical percentage that occasionally try to voice their concerns under the barrage of attacks from the fanatics. The problem is that the apparently increasing number of members like the one that you have highlighted over the years have probably irrevocably damaged the community’s reputation. The irony is that the type that resort to incoherent half sentences full of insults or incoherent gibberish with atrocious grammar and spelling whilst attempting to defend Darkfall and its developers don’t appear to be capable of appreciating how self-defeating it is. Unless of course your contention that it was the developers intention all along to cater to the lowest common denominator epitomized aptly by your example, then its simply a demonstration of how successful their word of mouth campaign continues to be. |

Idiots in a community do not attract more subscribers. They drive them away and just attract more idiots. One of the reasons why developers don't build games with Darkfalls rule set. A game with DF's feature set works only in FPS games where everybody is always equal otherwise it just becomes a chore to even play the game and people play games to have fun. Imagine how fun it is to get killed and have your shit looted 24/7 I actually know exactly how it feels because I used to play on AC1 Darktide where it's full open PvP anywhere and full looting on death. Let me tell you.. It's a cruel and unforgiving world.. and no one lasted long before switching back to the PvE worlds. People would only play there for a few hours just to have fun and PK at low levels in town (like a FPS game) then they would leave... |

Originally posted by Catizone FPS games are much more popular than MMORPG games. MMORPG players, generally, are the grind-loving carebear minority. You don't ever see Crysis, Armed Assault, Call of Duty, Joint Operations, Quake, WW2Online etc players whining about someone killing them and taking their dropped equipment, or whining when they were attacked when they didn't want to PvP, or whining because they don't have auto-attacks or auto-targeting or whatever else these carebear weaklings winge and whine about. |

Originally posted by CatizoneTodays worthless mmorpgs have levels and powerful, levelled equipment. That is the single greatest weakness in the entire mmorpg genre. The investment in time to gain levels and levelled equipment makes true/proper/full loot PvP combat in these games difficult to impliment.
It is for that reason that TRUE PvP games (ie - every FPS game you can think of) don't have levels or levelled equipment.
It is for that reason that Darkfall does not have levels or uber-powerful equipment. A sword is a sword in Darkfall like a gun is a gun in Armed Assault etc |

Looks like an unfortunate pattern is forming, it appears that the type of behavior highlighted by the OP appears to be perfectly acceptable or even more worryingly endorsed by some (hopefully not all) Darkfall supporters on this Forum as well. I suppose despite there pretexts many Darkfall supporters apparently really do belong in the demographic so openly displayed in the OP’s example. |

Darkfall may not have levels, but it -does- have skills. And you can say Skill-Based is different from level-based all you want, fact remains, a person with, let's say 200 points in Sword Skill (just a number off my hat), will beat the crap out of a player with a sword-skill of 10 (unless of course the 200 player is an idiot and the 10 player is a young god). If it's not the case, actually implementing and raising those skills becomes pointless.
Comparing FPS to MMORPG's is a futile endeavor. Why? Because FPS lack the elements of RPG in them except in small dses (like recently CoD4). There is no progression of the character, no skills to further, no goals to achieve in the development, which is one of the main reason MMORPG players play the games they do.
So if DF wants to cater to players that like FPS style games, they better remove the Skill-System and keep everyone at equal health/stamina/mana whatever. They should also remove any possibility of gaining money from Mob's and the like and let it be entirely Player-Driven. THEN you have something akin to FPS games. Until then, Darkfall suffers from the same dilemma as other games, maybe not in the same way, but damn close enough. |
