This I agree with, it just looked overcooked

Darkfall 2008 --> If you want a sandbox game that challenges you, check it out

There's three things that really bothered me.

1. The animations.  They definelty need to be tightened up as others have mentioned.  It doesn't have to be 'mostion capture' that's sort of a buzzword for idiots, just make them more realistic.

2. The particle effects - spells and blood spatter were quite bad.  They would probably do better just lowering the particle count and maybe even taking out the blood entirely.

3. The jumping - It looks like everyone was Bobafet flying around with a jet pack.  Oh yeah, you can't swim in metal armor.

All in all though it really looked good.  It's moved up to my #1 list of games I am looking forward to playing (not counting the unspecified ones from 38 Studios, Bioware and Stray Bullett).

I agree with most of this, especially the blood.  I think it needs to be turned back a notch.  And if there are settings to turn it off, which im almost 100% positive there will be, it shouldnt be a problem.

Yea the metal armor swimming had me laughing, but there are some things that need to be sacrificed for gameplay purposes.  I dont think any of the mainstream MMOs out there right now address armor + swimming at all.

Just asa note, Dungeons and Dragons online may not be a mainstream MMO cose of small player base but it addreses the armor + swimming thing. I played for some months with a cleric, and wearing heavy armor makes my toon swim slower than normal, it really was better to remove it.

cool thanks for the clarification, i have no experience with that game or ever really researched it.

But now that i think about it, I believe heavy armor effects things like cast time and movement speed...so even though we didnt see it clearly in the video...heavy armor may just have you swim much slower.  It still ignores the fact that you would sink to the bottom, but at least it would make it a little realistic.

The first 2 years of DAoC were the best 2 years in mmorpg history.

I never blindly rush into any pvp senario on any game as is.  So far DAoC did pvp the best imo, back in the day if you blindly rushed into pvp you got a quick trip back to the port keep and had to wait and rebuff etc etc ( hated that ) =).  Ill agree wows pvp has no consequences and its selling point is pure loot anyway.  Im not saying Full Loot pvp cant be fun, all im saying is I really dont care about loot at all in games. Just give me a weapon and let me loose =P. Linage 2 was a pretty good example of how bad loot droping can turn a game away from pvp.

Walker you are definitely one of the old school PvP'ers I miss.  PvP's purest form is Skill vs Skill.  Pretty much why I believe FPS will always be superior PvP games when compared to MMO's.  "Just give me a weapon and let me loose"  Spoken like a true PvP'er.

Think about it, its a seamless world, the client load in real time everything you see. do you know what happens when you try to load detailed scenery and characters in real time? what happens is Vanguard. Do you know what happens when your try to animate a lot of characters in a single detailed place? what happens is AoC. So for good or bad, this game will come out as what you saw. Average graphics and clunky animations, this is the way of doing things, desgining the game thinking on what your engine needs to animate, show and load.

In my opinion the game looks really good on what it promises, i wasn't looking forward to it until this video. Damn I want more now

I have to say as you mentioned Vanguard, that it is so much better now.

I was really looking forward to the video and I have to say that I was left wanting more. I wanted to see more of the crafting, looting, interface and such, more of the things they have been promising. There was way too much fighting and not enough depth.

I hope this game can come though and maybe they can update the graphics and animations. At a later date if people cant live with it.

For me not impressed at what I saw.

Are the WAR... no. It's a small step below. It's not like it's some graphics step-up from Red Alert 1 to C&C3.

So sad you see the gamers saying "graphics aren't a big deal!", and the second a new game doesn't have the extremely top of the line, need an 8800+ series to play minimum... "the graphics are unplayable".

The thing is, if you see those animation, explosions and other effects I get the feeling this is the work of amateurs. Now I could assume they have amateurs working on other aspects of the game too.

In the end they will have to satisfy hundreds of thousands of unforgiving customers, we know the MMO world is rough.

Don't get me wrong, it looks like tons of fun and I will definately give it a try if the overall feedback is positive but it is just a video and I'm not too excited .. yet.

"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand" - Randy Pausch

I just saw the video now.  It was an overall good video, but there were somethings I realized:

a)  Whenever something got destroyed it just vanished.  You see this 16 minutes into the video.

b)  Didn't show enough crafting

c)  Didn't show enough interface (although when we saw the ranger from the tree shoot the arrow; that was pretty neat)

d)  The ship battling was kind of like a bittersweet moment.  Instead of the ships look like they were damaged (the cannons hit them, made a little blast but that was all).  I was kind of expecting them to kind of get holes, catch fire, etc.

e)  Didn't show enough of that amazing AI

It was an okay video, but still left me very curious.  Wasn't worth the wait.

It just shjowed a bunch of people fighting 80% of the time; I would have liked to see more than just that.

I tested Vanguard the free month and they really have done alot to the game. Still, it's a level based game and all levelbased game has an end game. End game need content and as I understand it, there is 1 (one) dude that generate new content these days. Hope Vanguards survives. Crafting and diplomacy were really fun, cool flying mount and OK PvE. It will never have DF's freedom though. Skillbased, sandboxgames aren't for everyone and there is not many of of them. Best support those that exists :)

This is the one thing I wanted to see more of too.  We saw some PVE which was good because a lot of trolls were talking about that, but I wanted to see what is the most exciting and out of the box thing in my opinion DF offers...the mob progression thing.

The idea that a small group of goblins may be hanging out in a cave, once they are killed they are gone.  But if they go unchecked, they grow larger, champions spawn, and eventually big bosses.

Why is it that the rabid fabois can't reply to constructive criticism? I'd really like to know what you all think of the -FACT- that you only saw zoomed in snippets of the UI and not ONE fullscreen UI view. I was very disappointed by that. Only little bits. maybe like...10 seconds out of the whole video you see an actual interface.

And while the graphics are all right in some respects, the spells and the water and so on and so forth look plain horrible, along with the rather empty outdoors (which might of course grow better when players actually build there, could be).

Anyway, have fun everyone and calm down a little. You got a video, but it did not deliver as much as I had hoped. But it did deliver more than I thought it would. So we'll see what the beta has to say.

The UI is supposed to be very simple , it is about gameplay. You need bags and a health bar. As long as the ground unde rmy feet in the game is solid then I can ask for no more this looks like it will offer some great gameplay and at last someone with the conviction to create a great game.

I feel for the dissapointed but I guess they will be a minority , the haters will hate regardless of anything DF produces so to be honest I care little for the diatribe. While you sit and hate we will be having fun. Bye Bye have an unpleasant evening.

You sir, are an excellent example of why I find most DF Fans so very annoying. You insult people without regards of what they post as long as they post ANY possible criticism of the game. You are about on the same level as the Trolls, because a normal discussion is not possible with you either.

Anyway, your assumption of DF's UI is incorrect by the way. Because the little screenshots we have of DF's UI shows a skillbar along with what you apparently believe is the only thing there should be. And while yes, a simple UI may be good, I would still like to see it, because it would show me much more that there are actual people playing and HOW they are playing than what I've seen in this Video.

Anyway, I hope you will find what you are looking for in DF, but please keep your insults and assumptions about me. Thank you very much.

You are clearly trolling, it is a shame you will be dissapointed with this forever. It is a FPS based MMO to a point and if you spend a little time understanding what that means and you can go work that out for yourself, yes you may be capable. And when you have done this you may realise or may not that the graphics will not be much better as it will potentially degrade gameplay.

The forums provide no real game discussion just vapor discussion , and yone who wan't to do that goes elsewhere.

Old features repackaged , simple GUI not really sure what you expected but whatever had been made available would of dissapointed as you seem to have set your expectation. This game is about a complex framework simple outlook, it is what everyone has been waiting for. And it will no way be overengineered so I am not wrong for once.

If you say the words insult enough times you may be able to try and get me banned which seems to be the aim of any good troll.

Bye Bye and again don't stew too much there will be other games you can go and disrupt and one day you may even contribute or applaud the  DF Devs on their hard work but I guess that would be just too much.

Today is about the DF Devs give them some Applause. They really deserve it (oh and no need to hope for me I don't need it a game is a game and nothing more , real life is what is important don't forget it it may be your saviour)
