The lack of any good pvp is what is slowing this game down. I'm tempted to leave for WAR since it will be PVE and have some wicked PVP. The reason games like wow are so popular and good in the long run is because they mix both things very well.

In my opinion a great pvp with pve mix is the only way a game can compete in the big leagues. This means compete on the scale of WoW.

Is pvp issential for wide and mass appeal in the current MMO market. Mass appeal = more $$$$

I feel like the two games will appeal to two very different groups of players, so we shouldn't see a large amount of people leaving LoTR for WAR.

I will still play LOTRO PvM while I play Warhammer.  What other game can you actually play as the underpowered bad guys?  I like the challenge as a creep.

I am in Warhammer beta right now and love it.  RvR pvp is awesome and will always get better and better as time goes on.  I'm guessing about 6 days a week I'll be on WAR and the other day of the week log in to play with my creep buddies ;)

"Eye for an Eye"

Think War will appeal to a lot of nerds of the lore, and I never got into the rts's and I doubt I will start. The problem with this kind of game is that new players to the franchise will be alienated because they don't know anything about the lore of the series,. Also think that because of the games tight lore base a lot of the elements just won't make sense to new players.

I would rather wait for a completly fresh IP with open world features for a full loot pvp game.

For now LotrO is the best mmo for me, I really doubt any game can compare to the immense content Turbine is packing into LotrO right now, few months Mines of Moria will be released to add to the already extensive LotrO world. This expension a lone shows how detailed this game world will be, instead of skipping to a bigger region they are taking us through it all as Frodo did. Even though LotRO doesn't  have 10 million subs, it doesn't deface the fact that it will be  the most detailed , and content rich gaming world ever constructed.

Honestly If i ever play war it'll be one year at least after release. The game doesnt look that interesting for mainly pve players ( which most lotro players are).

Honestly I dont see the game being slowed down by no pvp, I'm in a kin with a bit more than 100 people and most of them are very satisfied customers (sure always a lil rant about burglar grps in moors, but everyone hates burgs especially hobbit burgs)

If it is full loot pve, nty and cya.

I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.

"I struggle to find the words that negate my meaning. I fail to comprehend what message is given"

Im in WAR beta aswell and even if I think its a good game and I love the IP I wont be leaving LotrO for it... if it releases to close to Moria then chances are I wont play it at all (maybe jump in later)

WAR is a PvP game first (or RvR) and PvE second... LotrO is the other way around

Think alot of people will play both (why not play the best PvE game and the best PvP game?)

I totally disagree with this post.  LOTRO is not a PvP game, nor does it need anything more than MP, which is enough for me.

Slowing down?  I don't see that anywhere.  Content is added at an amazing rate and the playerbase is pretty constant if not rising (at least on my server).

While PvP can be fun, it certainly isn't the deciding factor on whether a game will be successful or not.

I'll check it out and be horribly dissapointed I am sure.  I am thinking Warhammer is going to go the route of AoC with a serious lack of content that will make it unreasonable to subscribe to after the first month.  We will see.

but I am never going to leave LOTRO especially as the expansion will come out about the same time. (lifetime sub =D )

I'll try WAR if it runs OK on my PC.  However, I won't be leaving LoTRO long term.  I am a lifer after all.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

They are completely different types of games. You are basically assuming that everyone wants the same type of game and that they are constantly jockeying to find that game.

I pay for LOTRO and I pay for Lineage 2. I can play both because I required different things from both. Like the AoC thread that asked the same question, "no" I doubt that Warhammer will draw many players completely away from LOTRO as it is unique to itself.

I'm wondering about something that struck me while reading this thread and other threads in the Lord of the Rings: Online part of MMORPG.com:

Are there any supporters of Lord of the Rings: Online that are NOT lifetime subscribers?

How is that compatible with a game that should keep growing? Growing implies development, development takes programmers and other content developers and that takes money, money that is not coming in if too many subscribers are "Lifetimers" ?

For me the logical conclusion comes after re-reading the TOS (Terms of Service) related to the Lifetime Membership deal. It states that players taking up this offer can gain access to the original game but paid expansions are not mentioned.

I admit that I can sometimes think in unfair lines but wouldn't it be obvious to simply deny Lifetimers access to the Mines of Moria content without:

A) Buy the Expansion (obvious).
B) Pay either a subscription or a special "Pay-Once" Lifetime "Mines of Moria" expansion deal.

Is this confirmed by official channels to NOT be the case?
