Does LoTR Online have player housing? If so how customizable are they, and are they hard to obtain?

There is player housing in different started areas where you zone into a neighborhood.  You have to buy one and then it's in that neighborhood instance.  I don't have one yet so I don't know how customizeable they are, but they are on in great locations.  It's cool because you get to know the people in your neighborhood.

Oh sweet, I am downloading the free trial right now so will check the game out. I have been playing a ton of AoC, and was wanting something else to play for a while till AoC catches up with where I am in content. I chose this game(if the free trial turns out good) because I use to love the Lord of The Rings books, and movies. The books were the first books I ever read all the way through lol, anything else just bored me when I was younger.

Housing is limited as far as customizability. You buy a pre-placed house, spots for decorations/trophies are extremely limited compared to housing in games like EQ2 or SWG. I also never saw anyone around in the neighborhood I was in. No real reason to hang around the neighborhoods I guess.

Housing is a work in progress they seem to be adding more stuff every other update.  It's not perfect but it seems to be coming along.

"I don''t care! I''m gonna eat somebody."

MaGic, I bet you will like this game based on the few posts I've read by you in the AoC forums.

That is, if you like polish. The combat is waaay different though, you'll have to adjust.

the amount of stuff you can put in the customization spots i qute big though. It goes from various statues, to a giant pumpkin or 10 feet high sword that you get from defeating the second biggest boss ingame. Most bosses giv a trophy you can display some of them are nice, others are not.

The whole point of neighbourhoods is to try to get a whole hood with your kin. My kin is taking over a hood right now (offering money to people so they abbandon their houses) These neighbour hood are the ultimate roleplay tools there is a place for weddigns and events lakes shops...

Yea I really like AoC, its just got issues I am starting to notice(Level 46 atm). Higher level I get the worse those issues are and the more of them. Its funny I always defend AoC, but now I am starting to get bored of it at higher levels..

The trophy thing sounds cool, I got the dl done last night and am getting ready to login to give it a shot :).

Yes! I am right there with you.  I hit level 70 in Aoc and got bored and went back to a level 36 and snapped out of it and said "this is not fun".

I am so pissed at myself for buying in on the hype and getting bamboozled into buying their CE edition too.  I hope they are not there when I go to GenCon this year.  If they are, they are going to get an earfull...

Created trial acct for LoTRO tonight.  2 More days left on AoC.  I haven't even logged in during the past 2 weeks or so.  Just read the forums and post every once in awhile :P

My only gripe with Housing in Lord of the Rings: Online is that it is instanced and therefore removed from the gameworld.

It is the same in Age of Conan where Guild Cities are instanced (okay, they are in a zone where four other Guild Cities are also located, but they don't feel as being part of the world).

Same problem in EverQuest2 where you had a house but it just felt disengaged from the world.

Only game that I can remember where housing and cities was IN THE GAMEWORLD was Vanguard but that's also one of the only MMOs I can think of that had a world made for it.

The experience I had in Lord of the Rings: Online is that it sucked the gameworld of most of the roleplaying. Just as Supergroup Bases did in City of Heroes/Villains so Roleplay became a "By Appointment Only" activity, not something you could just drop in on while adventuring.

That is my biggest reservation with instanced housing and/or guild halls, it makes the servers less vibrant with life.

And as I stated, not something that is unique to Lord of the Rings: Online.
