This is an awesome game to me, the best way to describe it as I see it is a grown up WoW  the only problem is population, I really wish some of AoC marketing would get hired by Turbine this game is too good to be so unpopulated It may just be me but playing it made me long for the population that wow had where as in WoW I found myself if anything longing for more time to solo.

Your tears sustain me.

I agree it is a great game.  WoW has made things too easy for players, very few people are willing to put effort into anything.  Most players now want super fast paced action instead of depth and strategy.  It is a shame, the only thing that keeps LotRO from being exceptionally fun is the lack of players.  Everyone is too brainwashed from WoW though, very few games will succede in this market because of it.  It needs about double the population it has now.

"My soul finds rest in God alone: My salvation comes from Him."

- Psalms 62:1

While I agree a large population is nice, I have no troubles finding people and my server seems very populated. No matter where I go(even out randomly about the land) I run into players. I even have found myself a few times fighting over the resource nodes out in the wilds, or a boss. Don't know about higher levels but I am currently at level 18 almost 19, I just had a group about 2 nights ago of 7 people going through the barrow-downs questing which was a blast. I think the population seems about right, anymore it would just be annoying to me.

I just cancelled my sub due to bad population.  I am looking at a character transfer to a more populated realm maybe in the future.  But I agree the game is insteresting but the lack of other players and grouping simply got to be too much.

Current Games:
WOW - Alliance Priest
EVE Online - Miner
Past Games: EQ2, EQOA, AO, Tabula Rasa,AOC, LOTRO, WarHammer

Not sure which server you're on, but it's weird to me. Snowbourn in EU is crammed :)

I think it has a great sized population just the way it is. A good kinship makes it easy to find groups for those group quests and has a bonus of equipping with some really nice crafted items.

As a night-owl, it can be a little sparse in terms of population on Landroval. But during the more reasonable hours it's quite crowded.

That said, it's one of the most crowded servers, so I can see it being a problem on some, especially if you do have weird hours.  I guess that's one of the pluses of games with people all over the world - you might lag more, but you have people from all different time zones...

How has LotRO got in depth strategy? It's not more in depth than WoW. I don't know why players peddle this kind of misinformation. LotRO is slower paced, yes, more story oriented. But it's not Eve!

"It always funny until someone gets hurt... and then it''s just hilarious." -- Bill Hicks

Population wasn't exactly booming when I played, but still a lot better than say EQII these days. At least in my opinion. As for the game being in-depth... I think it's quite the opposite.

AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...

I tried it but the character models movement and animations were all off to me, just looked really nasty. I also wish'd it was more like WOW where it was the two factions against eachother but all they have is monster play which is lame.

I mean in lord of the rings surely the bad side have lore too?

Population levels are absolutly fine imo.  I have characters on both Landroval and Silverload and have no trouble finding fellowships on either.  So i don't know what server you're on but this doesn't seem to be the case for most players.

Also I'm quite happy this game doesn't have the population of WoW (although Turbine might think differently). LoTRO does not need a shit load of nut jobs running around spouting ridiculous crap on OOC and acting like fools.
