The two on the outsides are NPCs I think. The middle is a player.

It's comments like this that will get every single thing you say instantly dismissed as fanboi guff.

Turbine themselves had a very limited understanding of LOTRO's lore. Once upon a time there were to be no magic users in the game, because of it's "massive lore" which they had a limited grasp of. It was poor ignorami like me who piped up on the LOTRO forums and pointed out that if you read beyond the three LOTR books, there was abundant evidence of the use of magic in Middle Earth by folk other than the five Istari. Even in the books there are several hints of this.

Turbine did an excellent job creating the game they set out to make. But the game they set out to make has limited appeal in the mmo market, and as a result, LOTRO is a niche game.

The "deficiency" is in Turbine's design, not in the players of every other mmo but LOTRO.

Most MMO players don't want to play a "story-based" mmo - especially a story they've already seen/read.

It's great that you enjoy it, but slagging off at those who don't - who happen to be the majority - is unnecessary.

I think it is called "Been there, done that".

Now, like I have said in the past...,make some major changes to visuals, UI, gameplay mechanics to make it more interactive than kill 10x style questing, then I think it could change the field.

I am unsure if Turbine could do massive sieges, but this would be a good pull. Do more puzzle style quests (which isn't one of the bases of the Hibbit for example was riddles and puzzles?), and we may have something here.

The game has mass PvE appeal, but it needs something a little more enticing to pull in the various other crowds.

Or like you said...will stay niche.

LoTRO is an OK game but it doesnt blow you away.....The game play is too similar to WoW (PVE anyway) and the game gets boring fairly quickly.......If LoTRO had been released before the movies it probably wouldnt even have half of its current population.....The movies helped LoTRO alot because alot of people could relate to Legolas, Aragorn, Frodo, etc etc.......I think the lore is the strength of what would otherwise be a pretty boring game.

Personally, I think LOTRO is one of the best MMORPGs of all time.  The game is much more complex than pepole give it credit.  My Burglar has so many skills I really have to concentrate on what I am doing to play him well.

But there are a couple things I really don't like, the Main Bar in the UI...  why, for the love of the gods, can't they make that damn thing moveable??  It is right there, smack dab in the middle of everything, I just can't build a balanced looking UI around it the way I like.

The other thing that bugs me are some low res textures that are just really ugly, like the green moss on rocks in Evendim.  You'll be galloping along in absolute amazment at the beautiful scene... and bam some horrible looking giant rock with this wanna be green moss looking crap rears its ugly polygons and ruins it all.  Yes, I run it on high res.  Those rocks suck!

I know that, the main bar is immoveable though.  Everything else about the UI is good.  Just that GD main bar sucks.

"Eye for an Eye"

1/4 of WoW , no thank you. This post alone shows the disruptiveness of that community . As my block list grows , it is just to much already to deal with people who can never be satisfied.
