I had never seen these models, so as such, I assumed it was the one of the last 2 books. It does say it is from February, so Book 12 maybe? Or previews of Book 13? Definitely after the DX10 update though. And this is also the best example to show how DX10 can enhance visual quality for models, and shows exactly that they were NOT (the middle model still has the plasticky facial features, while the 2 NPC's have detail to their faces and even the beard on the male looks like real hair...) If all the models were like the 2 end pieces, then we would have something good here. Notice how the females figure is not "malformed" (based on the "chest" area"), and the man looks like....a man, and not a ballerina like the ones we have seen with their size 2 waists. I hope we see stuff like this in MoM for players. |

What Solareus said is right they have not used all the power of DX10 yet but are adding things as they game progresses. PLayer lighting is something that is going to be emphasised when MoM comes out. And I am sure this will only be enhanced with DX10 and real-time shadoews. They also said that when these new technologies become available, they will be implemented in the old zones as well. So the old content wont look older than the new. |

Yea thats the screenshot I meant too! If I remember corectly you were about level 36? So if you will start your sub again you can ride to a town called Aughaire in the south Angmar (lvl 40 area)... there you will find theese characters.. Dont know if dx10 makes alot of diferences on theese models.. So I dont think it has to do with dx10 or new models.. just that the artist managed to do some really nice NPCs there! |

Have you tried PVMP with dx10 on with ultra settings? it don't work, i have a pretty dam good computer and with dx10 on i cannot get within 100 feet of a player raid, the engine is just not capable enough 2 handle 2+ raids in 1 place atm. so perhaps 1 day turbine will get off their respective butts and do a proper dx10 engine from scratch instead of doing a bioshock and hashing dx10 enhancements ontop of dx9 engine... don't get me wrong i love pvmp in lotro, but thats it. |

In so many words, as I have stated all along, DX10 does nothing for the models then? This picture was used as an example of DX10 making changes to how the models look? I actually had already made it to 40 though, when I renewed during the free promo. I just quit again as the game still was not any fun. The characters were still ugly and the UI was not user friendly, so I just never got to this location. Anyone who can do a DX9/DX10 comparison of these particular models? I wonder if it does make a difference as has been stated by the OP? |

Why, oh why if as you say you quit for a second time "as the game was not any fun", "characters were still ugly and the UI was not user friendly" would you even care about this post or for that matter any post in LoTRO threads? Unless you have an agenda I just don't understand why you would continue to post on these threads. Perhaps you could enlighten me... |

Unless you have an agenda I just don't understand why you would continue to post on these threads. Perhaps you could enlighten me... If you had read through my history, I was a Closed Beta tester, Open Beta tester, and original Founder. I really wanted this game to succeed based on the license. I enjoy the LOTR IP. And now I am hoping that Turbine makes some progress on MoM to make the game more fun. Right now I feel it is mediocre, and the models lend one aspect to this issue. There is no rule that states I cannot post here. As well, when facts are "twisted" in nature like the OP's to make something seem like it is not, then I can question that as well. The question remains that the OP stated that DX10 made the characters look better, and I state there is no difference. Please do not try to derail this thread please. Thanks. |

I have a DAMN good computer, and I have yet to have any serious graphical lag from running it 1600x1200 ultra high DX10 settings, frequently in windowed mode so I can watch anime episodes overtop (I like watching anime while playing MMOs) I've never had any real serious lag. I've hit a few framedrops, but they were minor and really very acceptable (and remember, I have a movie playing overtop the screen, in windowed mode).
Are you classifying anything under 60 fps as unacceptable? Or are you just not running the system you think you're running? |
