 I do not come here as often as I use to and not sure if this has been asked before. Can a company copyright a game style? I mean could one of the reasons no one even tries to make another game with the skill tree system like in pre-cu because they would have to pay SOE in order to use it. I do not even know of that could be thought of as a style.

 

 Ok not sure that made sense and hope it has not been asked a million times.  I under stand the level system is established and proven for the most part. I guess it makes gateing content easier just seems someone would have tried to improve on the skill tree system by now.

I think there's adequate legal precedent (Apple vs. MS, Lotus vs. Borland) that you can't copyright the "look and feel" of software, to include MMOs.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
