Yet again with today’s Image Retrieval we get another "work in progress" image from what looks to be another new construct.

So far we have two images:

http://thematrixonline.station.sony.com/images/en/content_images/articles/image_retrieval/wip_purpose.jpg

and
http://thematrixonline.station.sony.com/images/en/content_images/articles/image_retrieval/wip_so_sure.jpg

So far this one looks to be more focused on a city environment as where the last new construct, Datamine, was more of an industrial island.

Either way it's great news that they are working on new content for the game. Now if we can get some bugs killed and our numbers back up MxO might be a great game once again!

I could very well be wrong but I look at those screenshots and I do not think new construct in progress.  It looks like they are doing some sort of graphical upgrade on the matrix.  Maybe making textures sharper and changing lighting to make the game not so bleak looking.

Well there are two things that make me think (and a lot of the community for that matter) that this is a new construct.

The first is the last time, not to long ago, this is how they started to introduce the new Data Mine construct. My second reason is in the newest picture posted you can see an archival broker next to the building. They are used to port in and out of constructs.

BUT then again we could be wrong... but I guess either way we have to wait :(

MXO had potential but poor sales and even worse handling after it went gold sealed it's fate.

Development has stopped; don't expect an expansion, new areas, abilities, classes, dungeons, or anything. Not gonna happen, what you buy now is what you'll have.

MXO has the most mind numbing leveling process ever created. It's painful, do you like running the same mission over and over? Literally the SAME mission? No, then MXO is not for you.

But wait, there are "critical" missions and neighborhood contact missions! Yeah, these missions are the same thing with different text that the NPC says. Do you care what the NPC says or are you trying to progress? Doing these contact and critical missions takes no time thankfully (maybe not) so soon enough all you'll be left with is standard missions. Wooo Hoo! They release a handful of new critcal missions every two weeks or so. It takes about 5-10 minutes to finish them.

The city is very small and is even smaller because of "hardlines." These are basicaly telphone booths that teleport players to other telephone booths through the city instantly.

PVE consists of Pandora’s Box and constructs, which are basically, get a group and DPS a boss and hope that something drops. No special strats needed, don't even bring a healer, just dps. Oh and there are only a few of them, which are only accessible at certain levels and some, have level caps. There are no plans to introduce more of either of these. Pandoras box is a quest line of sorts that has you fight waves of mobs for drops that are turned into a collector for items. There are only a few boxes and this was done by just about everyone in the community in two days. So there's a day or so of something to do.

The community is down to a few hundred at best and the best and brightest have left a long long time ago. They left mostly because there is NO END GAME at all, not pve or pvp. Seriously, none. You can log in to MXO and go all over and if you're lucky, you might actually see someone. Even more people are leaving now that new games are dropping so you'll have even a harder time finding anyone.

There is only Roleplay as end game. They have "events" which are roleplay session with OTHER PLAYERS who were picked by a dev named rarebit to play pretend as one of the "organization" liaisons. (Zion etc.) So you can roleplay with other players for $15 dollars a month. A lot of players are strict roleplay fanatics, they talk ((ooc)) and all that nonsense. Oh and sometimes rarebit will log in as someone and play pretend too. Sorry sean, who gives a shit right and who is he anyway? So if you don't like hearing the same pseudo intellectual Neo conversation for the 500th time with cute brackets, stay away.

Pvp consists of one group fighting at one place all day, and it's really just zerg vs. zerg. Nothing to it, just bring more and it's a third person shooter, no pvp rewards or penalties. Oh and hyperjump is a good way to get away from your eneimes should you want to go roleplay.

Players asked for new zones, abilities, dungeons with good boss fights, pvp rewards, etc. But SOE said, "no, we don't have the money for your game, soo uh how about player roleplay."  It's a shame, with the addition of a good pve/questing system and a point to pvp, it would be worth the money. But if you are a matrix freak or love roleplay, then you might have a good thing for you.

So when you say there will be no new content I guess the new area they released not to long ago counts as what? The new area introduced a massive area that throws players into a Free-For-All environment, allows players to do major data mining with new tools, and introduced new NPCs that drop some new and interesting items.

Almost any level of player can jump into this construct and either kill for items or mine for information. I just don't see how you can say nothing new is being made when before this was released there was nothing that hinted that this was something the old team had been working on.

I would have to say the last thing that is needed is new area's to spread an already thin population (putting off new players who see only a ghost town), what is needed are reasons to occupy and explore the areas already in game, things are needed to make the city come alive and feel active and vibrant.

There is and has been a surprising amount of new content given the level of dev resource available to the game. Sadly it is generic MMO style mechanical gameplay that often actively contradicts the theme and disconnects itself from its source material when in fact what should be done is to emphasise the Matrix's unique features and appeal.

This was just released today, it's rather small so it should be interesting to find out what all you can do there!

We know for sure there will be something to do with... Ninjas

Hi, long time no see!

One question, did you write this right now, or did you copy and paste this from an earlier post on another thread?

I don't really know, but for future quotations, it would make sense to remove the bold-marked sentence from your disclaimer, because, guess what, it's almost a miracle I'm reading this entry, let alone happened to remember this forum even exists.

I don't have anything to do with this anymore, so why address me? I don't really care though, so you are allowed not to reply to this :)

By the way, the entire quoted paragraph is pure DS (= dog shit - pun intended) - I have read accounts of events / "role play meetings", and I can say "the same stupid Neo conversation with cute brackets" is simultaneously the most clichéd picture a rancorous Matrix critic can resort to draw ("the cinema hall was full of pimpled teeny boppers dressed like Neo", "MxO is full of stupid kids running around like Neo wannabes", "these crazy a(r)pe(e) freaks who prattle about Neo all the time"), a rather silly formulation, and pretty much as far from the truth as possible.

Conversations/discussions/dialogue in live events (or whatever you want to call them in order to make clear your opinion of them considering size, quality and importance, failing to realize that a group of volunteering players or a game dev logging in and organizing a gathering with a roleplay scenario is simply nothing else than an "event" by the very definition of the word, despite any high standards set by other MMOs) have all kinds of different topics, and sometimes, of course, it happens to be Neo, in an according situation/plot.

I simply don't understand what kind of silly premise you're basing this paragraph on, Freiheit. The game was designed and marketed as "telling a continuing storyline" and involving players in "events" that would inherently include RP as a fundamental element and self purpose.
Players, among other reasons, would log in to experience and "take part" in the storyline, to get to talk with "characters from the movies", and interact with "other operatives=players" - with or without influence on the outcome, it would still be "roleplaying" and "pretending".

Yet people like you or that "baff" dolt (I still consider him one of the biggest idiots I ever argued against on the web to this day) believe it made any shadow of a sense to ridicule the very principle of "NPC texts" and "devs logging in and playing pretend" because "they have nothing else to offer".

"IC" and all that nonsense - let's face it, our society wastes way too much time with this obsolete "fiction" nonsense, for some reason valuing this idiotic human trait called "fantasy" or something like that -  thinking out people that never existed, thinking out sequences of occurrences and conversations that never took place, filling entire books with this waste, letting people "pretend" and "act" this UNREAL batshit and then showing it in in front of "audiences" or filming it on camera.

Come on, a dev logging in and "pretending" to be some "character" someone thought out in his head, that doesn't even exist?? Wake up, morons - everyone knows it's this "dev" (=janitor) with the nick "Rarebit" who just "plays pretend" because they don't have any budget to make expansions and "end game content", stop being crazy fanatics with brackets 'n'stuff, this shit isn't real man.

Get the drift?

If you're not interested in RP and all this "play pretend" bullshit, stay away from the game? Well, I'm not interested in gaming of any kind right now, so I generally stay away from video games. How's that?

I also don't give a shit about soccer, so I didn't follow the European Championships. So, dear reader, if you also aren't interested in soccer, don't watch it on TV and then go out on the street and make obnoxious uproar. Why should you do something you're not interested in??

Not interested in RP? Stay away from an RP game! No shit, Sherlock??

<Mod edit>Fact is besides having very little content.Mxo is down to being run more by corrupt player mods and players who are given official status in game as special event characters than by any actual paid employees.
No offense but I'm glad to be walking away from this disaster of an mmo. SOE at its worst.
