Started EQ1 when Kunark was released, played until shortly after Lost Dungeons.Thats when SWG came out and I went there... Looked back quite a few times to EQ, cuz I had a blast, that I never found elsewehere. SWG was great until the NGE, Tried a bunch of other games, usually for about 6 months/2 years, but none have had the original EQ attraction. Now, I'm considering giving the old girl one last go, but what can I expect? Fungi Tunics for 20 million plat? Empty zones? Really it won't scare me off I guess, I just wanna know lol. I gave away all my gear when I quit, and in all those years I only got up to about lvl 55 Druid I'm guessing ( and a lv 50 Mage). Is there any hope for me to get any decent gear back? Probably have to solo it all? :) Thanks for any replies :) edit: Why only lv 55, cuz I spent months and months buying/selling stuff in the EC Tunnel (till PoP) :P |

The zones you knew and loved will likely be empty (EDIT: unless they happen to be a popular hot zone). And be prepared for stat shock when it comes to newer gear. New gear is OFF THE CHARTS compared to older gear. It can be a little hard getting a group in the midlevels, but it seems like it isn't too hard to get into a group if you go to the appropriate hot zones and ask around, or try the General chat channel, which you will join by default these days. I used to have it turned off, but it seems like it is the place where all the LFG action goes down these days. The good news is that finding a guild is pretty easy, since there are guild recruitment boards you can check in guild lobby (added with Dragons of Norrath) and in Blightfire (a lowbie zone in The Serpent's Spine). Getting some sort of gear to start out in shouldn't be too hard either. People seem willing to help newbies and returning players* a lot now that the server populations are kind of low, and there are armor quests and missions aplenty in several of the newer expansions. What's your home server? (* Or at least they've been willing to help me. I returned to Xegony and I've also been playing on Bristlebane as a brand new cleric. I don't play all that much and I am splitting that time between two servers, but the cleric is closing in on 40 already, thanks in large part to groups and a guild that took me under its wing.) |

I'd like to come back too, but I'm holding out for a new server, any sort of new server.
My experience with the game is pretty much the same as Phaethon's. I've played both a mage and a Druid to 55-ish. The only expansions I'm familiar with are the first couple. A trilogy server would be ideal for me, but really I'd come back for any newish server. Playing on any server that's been open for years just doesn't appeal to me at all.

The community on the progression server is not ... as you might remember EQ 1.
Another progression server will be released. Might wait for that. |

My home server used to be Tholuxe Paells, but transferred to the European server, Antonius Bayle? With at least one of my chars. But really, not sure how fast levelling is nowadays, but any server thats at has a decent community will do, experiencing the class from the ground up might not be such a bad idea :). Progression server is up for 2 years already? How time flies, I remember a friend of mine talking about it when he was playing on it there wasnt any expansion out on there.
Started the Trial on a new account, just to see how it plays again, sadly its a different environment then the real world, but the combat and interface is still intuitive to me :D |

I've been TOLD that FV has a great community still. I can't say. I play 7th Hammer and it SUCKS compared to what EQ used to be. If not for long time friends I think I would have given up on EQ by now. I love the game, but SoE is committed to burying it it seems. I don't understand it. With all the 'improvements' I hear people defending the devs on - how they want EQ to be modern and appeal to a larger market - their subs continue to drop. IF IT ISN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!! Ring a bell, Smedley? All they've accomplished is alienating the loyal fans that would have NEVER left EQ if SoE had stayed true to the game. In a vain effort to 'compete' with WoW, all they've done is pushed MOST of their player base over TO WoW. After all, imitation is in the end ... just IMITATION. Long time friend of mins says that FV had a great community as of about 6 months ago when he began a lengthy break. That's all I can say. The progression servers I'm sure suck as well. Due to the ever-incompetent incompetence of the EQ dev team, the progression servers were configured in such a way as to be a magnet for zergers. The 'vision' of classic servers was NOT to see how fast we can unlock all the expansions. /sigh Way to go, SoE. You did it again.... /shaking head
What I want to know is this... HOW can all of us make all these posts ALL OVER the internet and NOBODY in Tokyo ever see what Smedley is doing to the games that Sony is financing in the end? In any other industry that I know of, Smed would have been fired along with all his devs LONG AGO! ><
/rant off
Good luck in your search :) ps - someone told me to do a google search for eqclassic?? not sure what that's about yet. /shrug |

Came back :P Got all the expansions and a monthly sub. Started on the Antonius Bayle server, a new char. The 57 druid and 44 mage are still there, without gear. So far those Gloomingale Mines are pretty quiet, but theres enough mobs to grind on lol, I'm having fun for now... |
