"Generally, when someone sits down to play a game, they expect to have some fun.  They expect to be introduced to a new world where the rules and laws of everyday life don’t apply.  Basically, they expect to be entertained.  After five hours of continuous playing, you know what I achieved?  I was able to do some mining.  Wait, that’s misleading.  I was able to tell a terminal to do some mining for me.  During five hours of game play, not a damn thing happened.  There were no missions for me to run, there were no intuitive aspects of the game for new players to work with.

Other players run everything in the game.  Missions are set up by other players, all purchasable items are made by other players, the economy is run by other players.  What this means to starting gamers is that, unless there’s someone online to custom tailor a mission for that player, there’s very little for a first time gamer to do.  With nothing to do comes a sense of boredom and the game turns into nothing other than a “running simulator” as players go from one place to another with no point or purpose."

Listen buddy, as I have stated before, and is very obvious, ASK PLAYERS FOR HELP!!!! Don't ruin the fucken game for the rest of us. Ask players for help, ONLY players in your faction. Look on their badge for the stripes or w/e they use. If they have one stripe or more, ask them about TRAINING. They will most likely tell you the trainers name. And also ask if they have a Ventrillo or Teamspeak, and if they do, ask them for the IP.

So guys, don't make the game sound fucken retarted, and this has been going on for awhile. Tyron, I doubt that you tested out all thos games, because if you did, you would know to ask PLAYERS FOR HELP.

This is Intriguing, so far many of the games main complaints is the fact that it is entirely player driven??? (I've read this in a few different spots ) So........since there are no NPC's to hold your hand (or pull you along by the noise like a robot) people don't like it? Players basically create everything including the content, right?

This is pretty much what MMOers have been asking for isn't it??? (Aside from the WoW kids)

Is the games population effecting this maybe? As in not high enough?

I don't see the problem, what am I missing here????

The game just sucks. I beta tested this game. WHile player dirven content sseems good on paper, its like letting the mental patients run the psycho ward. It is one of the most boring games I have ever had the displeasure to play. Its linear as hell and as far as getting help....are you kidding? Most people are more concerend with thier own things going on and dont usually stop to help others. The game had potential in its concept phases....but the implementation sucked. Planetside is a far better game than FoM will ever hope to be. FoM is slow and boring to the point of suicidal thoughts. If you log in and can't get into some form of action within 2 minutes....the game is a failure.

Sounds like such a warm and fuzzy community, it's almost no wonder why people aren't flocking to Face of Mankind to play with people like you.  Being that this game is touted on how everything is player dependant as well as community driven one would hope that "representatives" of said community would extend some sort of respect and politeness towards possible future players.  A personal message would have been far better in this situation if you wanted to attempt to squelch an objectors opinion in this language; however, in the electronic medium muscle means practically nothing.

As for Face of Mankind, well TomBlaze summed it up rather well with points listed...

So let me play a little bit of devils advocate and ask you Pasi11 what does Face of Mankind have to offer that is truly groundbreaking in the MMO industry?  What elements make Face of Mankind something that people should try?  Additionally, if the game is so unique, ingenious, and filled with action why aren't more people playing and why is it so common to hear in faction chat "I'm bored" and same faction kills because nobody else is around to attack?

First off each faction has trainers that will always help if online, as it is their job.

Second people are selfish, if they don't get to do everything they want and not care about the faction  they are in and want to be uber leet person then they will hate the game as no new person gains in society that fast, but it is what people want.

Third most higher position players are happy with the game saying two things, 1) they have something to do as they have more organization work with less worry on starting off meeting new people, 2) they have played and know what they are doing not wondering around going "wtf what is this game?"

Im sick of these people that say things  like "If you log in and can't get into some form of action within 2 minutes....the game is a failure." No.. no... buddy. See you have to actually join a faction, go threw training and actually be an offical part of the game first. I mean you can, but ur not going to succeed and going into brooklyn with ur newb pistol and shoot someone and expect to kill them with one hit, lol. It takes time, people are just like I WANT SOME ACTION NOW!!!, well thats no diffrent then saying IM SO FUCKEN IMPAITINET!!!, people, ask someone about training as I have stated many times. I am very pissed because these guys dont know how to play a game. Yes I know there are a few bugs in the game, but, cmon, the dev team doesnt have a magic wand, and they are a little slow bug people, this game is someting new. Players, such as GD players or high command (r6 or r7) control the game. They have earned the rank and are commanding over 100 players, real players, to do there jobs. And there are also like teams, for merc there cells, for vortex, eurocore and cmg i think there called corperations, for fdc im not sure, but for led there departments, like S.W.A.T. or I.A.D. or w/e. So guys, honestly, im sick and tired of you people making the game seem worthless when you cant even play the entire game, its like 25% of the people that play FoM just get in the game and want to shoot stuff, well, get to know the game first, and players. And they report things like oh this game sucks so bad, gameplay sucks, or the economy sucks. Well, Im not to sure about the economy, I was an L.E.D patrol officer. And it was the so fun just walking around and patroling something, and eventually, someone will pull a gun on you, and you shoot back and call for backup and when you know it, one or two guys get overrunned by like 5 or 6 well trained officers on duty. Guys.. I cant even say how fun it was.

It's understandable that you dislike people objecting to a game (or anything for that matter) that you find fun; however, no matter how good something seems there will always be people who will find the same experience to be the opposite.  If you don't want to see opinions of those who dislike the product(s) that you enjoy either skip over them and/or don't bother with forums that support open discussion such as here.  It is your choice to get upset with other people's statement.

Unless things have drastically changed all players have to choose a faction before they start the game.  There isn't any nonsense of staying neutral and/or non-aligned in Face of Mankind.  Also, I don't think any serious poster here went into Face of Mankind with the give statement above of "I WANT ACTION NOW!!!" as this just sets any game up (not just MMOs) for failure.  Additionally, nobody really made the assertion that we should OMGWTF PWN players with starting gear though Smoker1982 (Mod/Dev for Face of Mankind) did say he's seen that happen many times so take that up with him.

(P)eople, ask someone about training as I have stated many times. I am very pissed because these guys dont know how to play a game.

So you're saying that if you have questions ask for help; however, don't ask me because I don't want to help or you're pissed because new people who've never played the game are asking for assistance?  Last time I checked all the web manuals for the game on the Face of Mankind website were "Under Construction" to which makes it near impossible to start the game knowing everything there is to know about the game without some reference material.  Additionally, nobody can just jump into a game (or job for that matter) and know everything and every detail about what's going on instantly without having some guidance from others.

Furthermore, this line just adds to that community feeling which you convey in your original post.  If anything, being an active subscriber you should be humble towards potential players if you want them to join you and others on the game you so dearly love.  This "Get help from anybody but in game" and the STFU and conform attitude you push don't really make this game sound welcoming to new players.  Good and bad reviews must exist in anything in order for people to make sound judgment about whatever it is they're going to pursue and denying them either would be wrong.  Basically quit hating the haters.

Yes I know there are a few bugs in the game, but, cmon, the dev team doesnt have a magic wand, and they are a little slow bug people, this game is someting new.

Any working MMO will always have various issues; however, severity of said issues will vary from team to team.  Using the line of "but it's new and give them a few months" just doesn't pan out anymore especially for a game that was in open beta for over a year and retail for now 3+ months.  Sure issues will come up from time to time though the willingness and ability for the development team to address them in both a timely and professional manner will ultimately figure in for the overall success of the game.  While Face of Mankind has been patched multiple times since retail there is still a ton of work which is needed in order to bring this game into its rightful spot.

Players, such as GD players or high command (r6 or r7) control the game. They have earned the rank and are commanding over 100 players, real players, to do there jobs. And there are also like teams, for merc there cells, for vortex, eurocore and cmg i think there called corperations, for fdc im not sure, but for led there departments, like S.W.A.T. or I.A.D. or w/e.

While many people who are of higher rank have rightfully earned their positions they are not always on at all times thus creating the break in ability for factions to continuously create new missions for players.  In addition, being that this is a game and online it requires the cooperation of all involved in order for things to work.  Additionally, saying that you've lead a 100 man guild means jack squat in real life so I'm somewhat lost about how this example is to be anything other than some sort of bragging tool.

Also while we're talking about ranks the time I spent in the game it was all too apparent that ranks mean absolutely nothing much like every other game out there.  When people left one faction the MoTB would gobble them up and even give them a higher rank then they were in their previous faction.  We had several from the Brotherhood who instantly went from Rank 2/3 to 4/5 just by betraying one faction.  That basically says that ranks are frivolous and factions could care less about who jumps where and to.  Granted there are factions who look down upon those who jump factions trying to obtain a higher rank and/or just flat out leave factions; however, the point still stands that ranks mean nothing aside from who can make missions.

To add to this ranks 1 - 3 are now given based up experience earned by the player which is kind of funny as people tout the game as not having levels to grind but at the same time it would be near impossible to rise from rank 1 to 3 in a 10,000 person faction.  Before the automated ranking up to three players had to hope, beg, kiss-ass in order to get a rise in rank if they so desired as there was nothing to stop ranking from being a "I promote you because I think you're cool" attitude.  At the same time it also promotes abuse of the system in which a good player could be black-balled by a disgruntled higher ranking member.  It's these petty games that turn away mature players and will be something that will keep the smaller selfish crowds playing thus limiting the overall number of potential active accounts Face of Mankind could have.*

(* In addition to several critical system updates)

So guys, honestly, im sick and tired of you people making the game seem worthless when you cant even play the entire game, its like 25% of the people that play FoM just get in the game and want to shoot stuff, well, get to know the game first, and players. And they report things like oh this game sucks so bad, gameplay sucks, or the economy sucks. Well, Im not to sure about the economy(.)

People are free to voice their opinion about anything posted on these forums so no matter how much you beg and whine people will say whatever they want even about products that you might think are the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Your assertion of 25% play the game to shoot stuff I would say is far off as it seemed more like 75-80% were/are of this mindset and the number of combatants vs. Medic/Trader/Commander show it as well.  This game was built more so on the combatant mindset then anything else as its even shown when you compare the various fields of activities found within Face of Mankind.  All items made by traders are combat oriented as there's no furniture, housing, vehicles, other luxuries craftable by traders.  Medics heal better than any other while Commanders are suppose to help lead squads but neither boast anything other than combat support.  It's rather hard to say Face of Mankind is about anything other than combat.

As for the economy in Face of Mankind the word pointlessness comes to mind.  Sure each faction starts off with 100 million credits however, they are more apt to being traded between factions then within.  Some factions will spend more and make less while others will make more and spend less; however, there are no true money sinks found in Face of Mankind that support having tons of credits.  Sure gear and ammo are consumed during normal operations though these aren't any difference than decay and repairs found in any other MMO.  For a striving economy there has to be a drain somewhere that money will not ever be recovered and such items would be collectable possessions.  Yes people attribute them to the standard MMO though without them there is no gain as it doesn't take much for anybody to be geared the exact same way as the next person and add to that when you die you lose all of it except the weapons.  What's the point?

And they report things like oh this game sucks so bad, gameplay sucks, or the economy sucks.

After playing the game for three weeks I found myself asking if paying for Half Life (not Half Life 2 but the original Half Life with no expansions) was worth $10 US a month or not.

first that p guy means actually care about your faction and not be self-centered as anyone can wear a faction badge
