• • Straight to the point: Potential WoW killer here?

  • Wound or maim yes, but kill no.  Long time WoW players will try WAR first and maybe go to WOTLK for a while, but later return to WAR, or even play both.  There could be a mass migration of serious PvPers from WoW to WAR.  The competition will be interesting to watch.  We can expect a whole new round of WoW free trials, bonuses and beta updates as WAR nears release.

    FP process is three steps; last step is Preload page; ignore the error message and just refresh the page periodically until the file is loaded into the Download Manager.  Instructions and primary links from Mythic:

    To register for Open Beta:

    2. Create a new Warhammer Online game account.
    3. When prompted, enter your Open Beta code.*

• • I know I'm going to get flamed, but I cannot take it anymore:

  • 1) I sometimes mistype homophones in haste, such as 'there' for 'their', because I'm thinking of the pronunciation first, not because my spelling is bad.
    

    2) Proofreading chat or a post is often an afterthought, hence the common sight of an asterisked correction in game chat.  In forums it definitely helps to use the preview function.

    3) We need to distinguish between word abuse and phrase abbreviation.  For example, typing 'ne' or '4' instead of 'any' or 'for' is confusing and either pseudo-hip or lazy.  On the other hand, abbreviations such as 'afk', 'dot' and 'wts' are easy to recognize and save typing.

    4) Chronic misuse, abuse and misspelling of English has a ripple effect.  If you take time out from games and forums once in a while to read a few well-written books then we will all benefit.  Buy a dictionary and challenge yourself.  Rent the movie "Educating Rita" .

    AoC is not a WoW killer.  People leaving WoW to play AoC are most likely just bored with WoW, and AoC just happens to be the next big thing.

     

    I agree.  AoC is a fad that will fade by Fall when many new alternatives become available.  AoC's system requirements and design choices will limit its long term appeal.  Playability has made WoW successful despite its flaws.  The proliferation of new MMO's will erode the WoW subscriber base in any case.

    I once started loading the game and went to my kitchen for a couple minutes -- when i got back i found my computer rebooting.  /sigh
