In case you haven't read it yet, they announced that they've found a US publisher as well. The release has now been moved from Quarter 2 to autumn to allow for a simultaneous wordwide release. Open Beta should start a few weeks before that.
Of course, you don't understand the HATE, because you think console gamers = PC games, and this is false.
No fanboy reply:
PC games have more config options, better responsiveness, more customice options, modability.. etc. So console games feel _dumbed down_ Why would I care If console gamers get games that will feel dumbed down to me? because some gamers will be designed for the 'minimal common denominator'. My PC has 4 GB of RAM. The XBox has only 521 MB. So a game released for PC and XBox will have small maps, to able the XBox to allocate all the map in memory. I will get *NERFED* maps because the XBox has soo lite memory. Controls? exactly that problem. On a PC menus can be more complex, because we have a mouse. On the console, you have a endless serie of menus and submenus, and submenus submenus of submenus. and after all this crap, the config options are tow 'Gore ON/OFF' 'Subtitles ON/OFF'. WTF?. On a PC, If you disllike bloom, you can disable it, If you want a different FOV setting, you can change this. And the menu is two clicks away.
You do understand that not every pc game has 4 GB of ram right? Even if a game is designed for pc only, it'll be optimized for lower amounts. I'd guess that most of the PC games right now are still optimized for 1 GB of memory, so the rest of the memory would still do squat. Any decent console dev that wants to use large maps would use streaming anyway, which means that there is no real limit to the size.
To give you an example, this is running at the ps2. Every place that you see in it is reachable and only a small part of a world that can be explored without encountering any loading at all. In case you don't know, the ps2 only has 32 mb memory, and this includes video ram.

Second of all, what games have that many menus? Any game that is decently designed won't have that. The config options imo is also moot. The reason why the pc devs add the config options is not to make it possible for you to turn off bloom if you don't like it, it is just to make it possible for people to play the game on older systems.
All the standardization of consoles bring around huge advantages to the devs though. When a developer designs a console game, they don't have to take different pc configs into account. This not only saves them a lot of time debugging different configurations, it also means that every player gets exactly what they design.
