While I've been on Forumfall for a few years now, I haven't posted much in that time but I can definately agree with this statement. Over the past few years that majority of new people entering the site have been vaporware trolls, open pvp bashers, full loot whiners etc and for the most part they have either been chased off or grown bored.
Recently however there has been a massive influx of these sort of folks and it has gone beyond being annoying to the point that we just wanted a way to say piss off here's the proof....and now that the vid and beta signups are out, we have that. Now while we have less of the vaporware trolls, we have more of the other two as well as people coming to bash on every other system we're drooling over and waiting for. Not only that, we have tons of new folk who rather than reading the myriad of posts with information, or using the search function, instead post tons and tons of new topics about things that are easily found.
Over the past few years we've grown hostile and jaded toward newbies when it comes to these sort of things.....if you give us a reason to. If you actually look for things on your own and keep your yap shut about stuff you can't change, you won't give anyone a reason to chew on you.
Personally I would say that the best thing that AoC did was the pre-order headstart. Having access to the game fully for 10 days for all of 5 bucks, not having to buy the box or pay a sub or anything was perfect. I was able to get in game and in those 10 days level up to 50 or 51 and see what the game had to offer.
Having seen how few quests there are post 40, how small the zones actually are (they feel larger for a while due to the constant back and forth, but in reality they are not all that big overall), and the absolutely abysmal crafting and resource system I was able to decide that AoC just is not the game for me.....with only $5 cost to myself.
Somehow I doubt devs down the line will offer a similar option as I am sure they'd have liked that extra 50 bucks from me.....one can only hope though.
Known issue, esp when it comes to Vista x64
How many mmo's can you name that had a ton to do at cap when released? I can't think of many myself.....
The only way the xbox360 release will kick the game up is if the game is getting going praise at that point. Otherwise if the game is sucking it will just be another title that is either cancelled or tossed. Part of this is also due to the fact that console gamers aren't used to paying monthly sub fees for more than their live accounts and to have to pay live fees plus mmo sub fees will turn many owners off.
