No, it doesn't. They charge money for the client download for a reason we don't know, but you can get it for free from funcom's servers:

Funcom has officially told that if you want to give a buddy pass, you have to give your friend the DVDs too or make him pay 3e (EU) or 3$ (US) to download the client. ![]()
However, that's not really the case. I found out that you can get the client from funcom's servers simply by running the Conan patcher without game files. If your friend wants to try out AoC, simply give him this:

That's the 11 MB Conan patcher straight out of the game box. It'll download the game files for your friend with no cost. Extract the rar into the folder you want to install the game and let the patch program handle the rest!
Downloading the game takes a while. For some reason the game only takes 19 gigabytes when obtained this way instead of 25 GB when installed from the DVDs. This seems to have no effect on anything, the game is working and playable.
